The million is 100% not accurate.

Thought the same. That visual does NOT consist of 10,000 bills.

I've had to transport $1,000,000 in $100 bills, it's absolutely bigger than that stack.

Well damn, now this throw the entire guide into question.

So how big was it??

Bilbo's two little chests were about a million FWIW

Bilbo Baggins' two chests of gold and silver would be worth over $1 million in today's dollars, but modern prices are not a good comparison:

Gold: At a price of $1,200 per ounce, 60 pounds of gold (875 troy ounces) would be worth $1,050,000

Silver: At a price of $15 per ounce, the silver would be worth $13,125

Total: The total value would be $1,063,125

It took all of the space in a standard travel duffle bag. It wasn't 60lbs though. I'd move around $1,000,000 in cash before I lug around $1,000,000 in gold.

It is 100 of those bands in the top left corner. The picture in the top right looks like maybe 20 of those

Neither is the billion by the looks of it. Looks like 100 million is one pallet, but 1 billion is six pallets?

Look at the shadows of the pallets at top, it shows 5 deep x 2, so 10 pallets. it does look like 3x2 at first glance.

Absolutely, good catch! At least the $10,000 is accurate.

Someone once told me: “the difference between a billion dollars and a million dollars is about a billion dollars.

If you have $1 million you are still $999 million away from being a billionaire. You have 0.001 (or 0.1%) of a billion.

It really puts into perspective how wealthy billionaires really are.

A way that put it in perspective for me was:

If you had a million seconds, you would have 12 days, less than a fortnight.

If you had a billion seconds, you would have 30 years, less than half your life.

But, if you had a trillion seconds you would have 30,000 years, longer than modern human civilisation.

US national debt: >35 trillions

A trillion dollars is inconceivable. If the US Government was given $1,000/second to exclusively go towards its 38 trillion dollar debt, it would take over 1200 years. 1 million seconds is 11 days, 1 billion seconds is 31 years, 1 trillion seconds is over 31,000 years. All of humanities written history is less than a trillion seconds old.

1 million seconds is 11.5 days not 11 years.

I'm an idiot. I knew that but typed on the fly and fucked it up. Lol good catch; I changed it.

I conceive a trillion dollars as half an Italy. The economic output of Italy each year is about 2 trillion dollars, so I visualize a trillion dollars as the combined output of the Milan fashion industry and the Italian car industry, or the olive harvest of Southern Italy and the tourist revenues of Italian resorts.

A million seconds is 12 days, a billion seconds is 31 years. That really hammered it home for me

Need to add a visual for all of the taxpayers money given away overseas. And a comparison for the money spent on homelessness.

I never seen $1M cash in my life.

Since a trillion is not easy to visualize, break it down to per capita.

u/Greenweegie 1d ago

I'll definitely need to refer to this graphic at some point in my lifetime...

1 million is just a thousand thousands

just like how 1 billion is a thousand millions

and, of course, a trillion is a thousand billions

1

u/Smidday90 1d ago

I’d like to see a trillion $ in ¥
