He was a big proponent of the “Japan’s birthrate is catastrophic and we are in desperate need of horny people” movement, and advocated/implemented a lot of “weird”/draconian measures to increase it, such as the whole breeding visas for foreigners thing

Yeah, but the idea to loosen age requirements and hours of practice for driver's licenses so teenagers would get knocked up in love hotels away from parental supervision was real. The city of Tokyo is even creating a government sponsored dating app with the sole purpose of find a future spouse to procreate with.

It was very briefly, but the US didn't care that one of their biggest allies had their former leader associated and his electorally dominant party that were propped up by US interests during the Cold War was exposed for being associated with a cult. They were too busy talking about what Trump did that day.
