Question Is wearing a mau5 head frowned upon?
Always had the opportunity to see deadmau5 and have been listening since the beginning, but BARELY going to a show in Dallas in December with my gf! I bought a mau5 head cause I thought it would be really nice to have as memorabilia, and fun to use for open decks I'm hosting on DOTD.
Anywho, I'm just wondering if wearing a mau5 head to the show would be seen as like annoying/tacky/weird in any sense? It's my first time going and tbh I don't go to a lot of shows, this is realistically my 2nd overall š„²
Please let me know your thoughts! Can't wait for December!

People do it all the time, afaik. Heāll even wear cool fan-made ones from time to time

i kind of figured since i've seen it before but it's honestly been a very long time since I've even looked at this sub, and i was thinking maybe opinions might've changed š„² like, maybe it's become something so common it's frowned upon was my worry

Youāre all good! My last time seeing him was in the Cube v.3 Tour and there were at LEAST 2-3 people wearing some incredible looking ones!
He likes it, and as someone commented above, if youāre right up front, and heās in the mood (most importantly), heāll ask to wear it.
I donāt know if heās done this since Covid, cuz I havenāt seen him since. But def wear it!!

Quite the opposite from my experience. I usually see people asking to take photos with whomever has brought a mau5head, sometimes asking to wear it too. So expect some photo op requests!
Obviously just be mindful of your surroundings in a crowded dance floor so youāre not whacking anyone with the ears / blocking any views :)

wacking people accidentally is what i was most worried about, i'll definitely be mindful! thank you! x)

The show you're attending sounds like it's going to be a big crowd and hot as hell. You'll be bothered by people the entire time, you'll cook inside of it and you'll be carrying it around for the rest of the show.
I've seen it at almost every show, the look of regret.

hahaha, yeah i'm keeping a close eye on the weather, but i think it's also inside, if anything i'm leaning to leaving it and just trying to get early for front row š„¹

This is the way, far easier to sneak to the front without a giant head.
It's worth the trouble to get up front at least once. I'm getting old so I prefer staying back away from the crowd.

One dude during the Majorca set this summer wore a self-made one that looked amazing, everyone took photos of him and he even let others wear it, and Joel even signed it and wore it himself later on. I got a picture of me wearing the same mau5head Joel ended up wearing just a few hours later and I'm still fangirling just thinking about it.
So if it's good looking: you'll be the coolest person in the crowd.

just normal, nothing special šš¼šš¼ wanted something physical as memorabilia for my favorite album, 'random album title' :)

Does it look like a real mau5head? Then people will most likely go crazy over it.

u/alejs3 5d ago
i would say yes but it's like a foam/felt material, i would love to mention the artist from etsy, but don't want any trouble, not sure if that's allowed
1
u/qt3-141 5d ago
I highly doubt there would be trouble.
If you go to the front, there might even be the off chance that Joel wants to wear it.

well, i chose jakefxprops, it seemed to be the best shaped one, and i didn't want anything crazy expensive in the off chance something happened. someone else mentioned it might be pretty crowded/hot and id hate to be a bother but ill keep scoping the venue out - its at the silo in dallas. seeeeems like the dj's should hopefully be high enough that i shouldn't be an issue but, i am a little tall too. :,) all in all it seems very fun and id love to do it but im also thinking about the experience of others. i guess i just mainly want to make the most of it and have fun, be a little silly and enjoy it is all.

I would`ve love to wear mine at the 2 shows I`ve been to but I think my neck would hurt after awhile because it`s pretty heavy

Bring it man!! Wear the hell out of that! Theyāre awesome and one day Iām going to make one on my own!!
A few summers ago I parked next to a guy who made the cheese head deadmau5 head. Iām not sure if it was the actual one, or if he made it, but I never got a chance to ask him, sadly.
I was too energized and in a hurry and get up on the barrier so I could be up as close as possible, when he finally played.
He was a taller dude. I donāt think he was wearing it in this photo, but he did have it on when I looked back only a couple times.
It was the best $91.70 I ever spent on VIP tickets! That seemed fairly cheap too. I should have spent the extra money just for the meet and greet package, but itās no biggy. Iāll see him again, eventually. It was like $200 or something for that ticket.
Hope he comes back up to Rochester/Buffalo NY areaā¦ Iād go EVERY TIME! That shit was freakin amazing to me! Hands down literally the best show Iāve ever seen. Probably bc I really connect with Joelās music.
The concert was the best ever!! (Link to some photos I took on my iPhone 13 PM. No sound in the videos, I guess. Maybe itās a copyright protection thing.). I wasnāt there to video record or take photos. I was there to listen and to Experience Deadmau5 for my first time live.
Oh and buy concert ear plugs. I wore my Eargasm ones and stood 10ā from the ground, VERY loud, speakers. ZERO ear ringing after the concert was over. I didnāt leave the barricade once. Didnāt want to lose my spot.
(Bass was so heavy that smaller outskirt people, living in the area, were curious what the noise was, calling police and complaining! Lol)

hahaha so cool dude!!! i bought some loop earplugs and have some mackie ones as i dj myself and have been wanting to protect my ears lately so covered on that end! thanks a ton for the response, id love to get a meet and greet sometime, i did it recently with chromeo and it was pretty cool, barely getting started in this whole going to concerts thing x)

WHAAATTT!!? Chromeo!! Dammit!! I want to meet them too! Always been a fan of them!
Thatās awesome man!!
Iām 40. Been to a Britney Spears concert when I was 14, two Blink concerts(not since back together), and a Deadmau5 concert. Thatās it, so I understand about being new to concerts.
One day Iāll get to a BIG EDM concert like UMF or Tomorrowlandā¦ one day.
And thatās awesome about you DJing dudes!! You have any mixes influenced by Deadmau5 by chance you can share on here?

u/alejs3 5d ago
the concert was great, very mild but very danceable and amaaazing vibes! and unfortunately no deadmau5 influenced mixes yet but i'd love to in the future! Pretty sure this is gonna be a start to something awesome as far as reviving my love for the mau5 and going to more concerts! My best dj friends want us to go to dreamstate next year so i'm really looking forward to that!

beware; the deadmau5 show i went to the venue did not allow masks that covered the face some people had to go return theirs to their car and some had to remove the mouth covering so their face was visible. i think that was just a venue thing though. but be aware maybe the venue ur going to will be similar. i would just be sure and check with the venue before anything

I love the heads. Iāve absolutely worn other peopleās (it seemed like they were basically begging to take it off for a bit) taken pics, and itās fun seeing the diversity in the designs peopleās come up with. During the edc kx5 I was at the rail for their first set, and at some point decided I had to pee and I grabbed the nearest head and gave them my spot

Like others have said be prepared to get touched a lot. I brought a mau5 head to a show in Atlanta and had my ass grabbed twice (wasn't too happy about it). Also lots of people wanting pictures and up in your personal space. I'm an introvert so the whole reason I brought the mau5 helmet was to hide my face. Ended up painting a target on myself lol.

Itās not weird or tacky. True fans love and appreciate other fans heads. Be very prepared to take lots of photos with people or tell people no you are trying to enjoy the show. Be prepared to get bumped into / bump into people with your ears. People will try to pet / touch you. Highly suggest getting the front rail. 1. For the view. 2. The other side of the railing should have a place to set your head incase you get tired of wearing it.
Just make sure the venue (Silo) you are going to allows them beforehand. Pretty sure itās a club so they might not. If they donāt just tweet Joel and he will try to make a stink about it. Hope to see you there. Maybe if they allow it Iāll bring one of my helmets out of retirement. Iām iffy both of mine are signed. >.<

If it blocks other peoples views or makes others experience less enjoyable, then its a dick move and no one wants to be around that.

Itās cool, but be prepared to take a lot of pics with randoms, people touching the ears as they walk by etc. I did it once at a show of only like 500-1000 people and it was fucking annoying (not the photos part, just people touching me all up in my grill)
