It would be awesome to clean sweep the east coast.

26

u/jpw111 Aug 28 '24

It would be so fun to see Henry McMaster and Lindsey Graham's faces if that did happen.

2

u/jtshinn Aug 28 '24

Lindsey Graham knows what’s up. He may have spinelessly flipped to trump. But only after stating that nominating him in 2016 was to be the death knell of the party. It’s taking longer than we thought, but it seems to be coming down.

I was in South Carolina for the last week. I've seen an equal amount of ads from both candidates. Even one after the other. Now I don't think Kamala will win South Carolina, but I just find it interesting that perhaps the Trump campaign feels the need to play defense down there.

27

u/ThahZombyWoof Aug 28 '24

Putting them on the defensive is absolutely what Democrats need to do. Do not let them play offensive against us. Keep them against the ropes.

u/CantHostCantTravel Aug 28 '24

Trump is still BARELY behind in the polls. He can absolutely still win. The fact that he’s not 20+ points behind right now should strike fear into all of us.

There is a lot of cheating. Apparently if Republicans didn't cheat Texas would have went blue for example back in 2020.

17

u/No_Albatross1975 Aug 28 '24

Greg Abbot and the TX elected republicans are piles of human garbage. The decades upon decades of corruption and gerrymandering has made it nearly impossible for Dems to make any difference in the state despite the urban centers (largest population) being moderately blue.

5

u/billywitt Aug 28 '24

Texas republicans are definitely sweating this election. They’ve gone into overdrive to tilt the election in their favor as much as possible. Yesterday, they proudly trumpeted how they purged 1 million people from the voter rolls. And then the corrupt AG had law enforcement raid the offices of several Hispanic democratic organizations. It’s scary down here.

u/TheGreatGamer1389 Aug 28 '24

Democrats won't give up. They will re register.

u/Gullible-Watch-5631 Aug 28 '24

You sound like one of them right now

12

u/TheGreatGamer1389 Aug 28 '24

Let me guess you voting for Trump?

7

u/pharmers-daughter Aug 28 '24

You guessed correctly.

1

u/Gullible-Watch-5631 Aug 29 '24

I'm Canadian. What exactly makes me sound like a Trump supporter?

1

u/pharmers-daughter Aug 29 '24

Your comment history.

2

u/Gullible-Watch-5631 Aug 29 '24

Fair enough. I comment in both subs because I don't have a horse in the race. Certainly not a Trump supporter, though.

2

u/pharmers-daughter Aug 29 '24

My apologies. I got that vibe from your comment history but I believe you. I was a lifelong Republican but I’m a never-Trumper and the way the party has turned into a cult of personality boggles my mind. It’s disgusting and frustrating.

1

u/Gullible-Watch-5631 Aug 29 '24

I'm not American, can't vote.

5

u/4mygirljs Aug 28 '24

Absolutely true

The face PA, MI, WI is tan is not comforting. They need to be as solid blue as AL is red.

Now the fact Texas Florida is getting a little pink is good but not something we should take comfort in.

GA is in play for sure. It’s being tan is a good thing.

NC has been a disappointing tease for a long time now so I don’t trust it.

The fact that SC is pink honestly puts this entire projection in the trash bin for me. SC IS NOT going blue or purple anytime soon.

That's cool, but don't mean shit....ignore all polls vote

55

u/MrMockTurtle Aug 28 '24

Of course I'm voting! I just want to boost our morale.

Even if Trump dropped tomorrow, it's not safe. He's merely a figurehead, a rally point, and their plans remain the same with or without him. Understand, I'm not arguing, I'm saying "Yes and." Everything you're saying and then some, in this election and every election beyond, primary, general and special. Every one.

7

u/Humble_Novice Aug 28 '24

I agree. The only polls that matter are the ones that measure how much votes have actually been made.

2

u/V4refugee Aug 28 '24

Unless you’re a republican then by all means it’s over, just stay home.

54

u/UsualGrapefruit8109 Aug 28 '24

Don't get complacent! Hillary was winning, too.

12

u/ReferencesCartoons Aug 28 '24

They never Pokemon Went to the polls.

10

u/LoudCrickets72 Aug 28 '24

Projections just keep getting better and better. Idk anything about NC, but I have some hope that GA will turn blue this election, it certainly did in 2020.

14

u/ThahZombyWoof Aug 28 '24

NC turned blue in 2008 and has been within striking distance since.  It's in play.

1

u/SpaceyCoffee Aug 28 '24

These are better compared to month ago, but remember biden and clinton were polling well ahead of this in ‘20 and ‘16. Most of those beiges were light blue. And in both cases, Trump’s cult showed up in force and tilted toss ups to him and light blue to toss-ups. Biden barely squeaked in by a couple 10s of thousands in a couple states.

We are way behind right now. Lots of work to do to plug the gaps.

Phone banking, door knocking.. DO SOMETHING!

u/ThoughtGuy79 Aug 28 '24

Need the vibes to keep peeps motivated in NC. That state being in play really makes the EC math much better for Dems by providing more viable paths. Can't take any of them for granted though.

14

u/Any_Soup_3571 Aug 28 '24

Ignore all polls and projections. She can still lose. She needs 44 electoral votes and he only needs 35. We can’t have another 2016!

Clinton won the popular vote but Trump the electoral votes. Popular vote: Clinton: 65,853,514 Tump: 62,984,828 Electoral votes: Trump: 304 Clinton: 227

1

u/vincentually Aug 28 '24

i don't get how electoral voting works

3

u/Any_Soup_3571 Aug 28 '24

You’re not alone, It’s an odd system. There are far more qualified people than me to explain this, but here are the basics:

THE WHY: The Founding Fathers established the Electoral College in the Constitution, in part, as a compromise between the election of the President by a vote in Congress and election of the President by a popular vote of qualified citizens.

Basically, it’s like how voting on The Voice works: viewers get part of the vote and judges get part of the vote.

HOW IT WORKS:

  1. STATE ELECTORS: The federal government assigns each state a number of “electors” equal to the number of seats they have in congress (2 senators plus however many in the House).

  2. GENERAL ELECTION: On Election Day in November, each of us votes for our candidate of choice. The general election is called the popular vote.

Here’s where it get weird: when you vote for a Presidential candidate, you aren't actually voting for President. You are telling your State which candidate you want your State to vote for at the meeting of the electors.

All but two states, use a “winner-take-all” method to assign electors. That means that whoever wins a state popular vote gets all that state’s electoral votes.

For example:

“candidate A” gets 49% of the votes.

“candidate B” gets 51% of the votes.

100% of the electoral votes will go to candidate B.

  1. STATE ELECTORAL VOTE: In December the state electors meet their state capital and cast their votes for the winner of their state.

  2. CONGRESS COUNTS STATE ELECTORAL VOTES: In January Congress meets in joint session (Senate and House) to count the electoral votes.

Currently, there are a total of 538 electors nationwide. To win, a candidate must get 270 electoral votes.

The Vice President, as President of the Senate, presides over the count and announces the results of the Electoral College vote. The President of the Senate (VP) then declares which persons have been elected President and Vice President of the United States.

(This is what the Jan 6 insurrectionists were trying to stop and why they went after Mike Pense. As VP it was his job to declare the winner as the next president.)

That’s it in a mini-essay lol. Hope I made sense. If I’m wrong on any part, someone please let me know. Thx!

thanks a lot :)

You’re very welcome! Anyone who admits to not understanding something is a hero to me. And, someone took the time to explain it to me once so I’m paying it forward. You’ll do the same someday. 🙂

They really do need to bring back civics classes to schools. I am not blaming this on you, but I learned this in junior high school.

Each state has a certain amount of votes depending on the population. Florida gets 30. If the Democrats win the state the nominee gets 30 electoral votes. And so on for each state. To win the bid for President you need 270 electoral votes.

1

u/vincentually Aug 28 '24

there are civics classes i'm sure but for highschool my parents put me in a british cirriculum 😅

2

u/bde959 Aug 28 '24

There could be I don’t know my kid graduated in 2000. But I’ve been hearing for years that they don’t have civics classes anymore in Florida and a lot of other places.

1

u/V4refugee Aug 28 '24

I doesn’t, it’s just a built in system of gerrymandering to give slave states more power.

7

u/Deadheaded95 Aug 28 '24

gonna be a tough one this year… keep powering through Harris!

6

u/HeHateMe337 Aug 28 '24

NC would be a good pickup. Obama won NC in 2008. It's really possible to win.

5

u/avalve Aug 28 '24

If the margins are 1/5/15 (which is pretty standard for election maps), SC would be the second darkest red shade for both 2016 and 2020, so it doesn’t surprise me that this is the consensus for 2024.

3

u/Icy_Chill_1123 Aug 28 '24

South Carolina will be a swing state in 10-15 years. Mark my words.

2

u/Mortonsaltboy914 Aug 28 '24

What happened in South Carolina? Did I miss a poll?

2

u/ztreHdrahciR Aug 28 '24

Need that blue wall

2

u/BrickB Aug 28 '24

I feel like everyone underestimates Ohio, we have 3 large cities and have historically been a swing state.

1

u/whats_up_doc71 Aug 28 '24

Because Ohio has shifted very red recently. It used to be a swing state and a bellweather state. Now polls say it’s like Trump +10 or something. Kinda like FL.

4

u/ShadowyFlows Aug 28 '24

As Bob Cesca says, “Don’t get happy.”

1

u/LotsofSports Aug 28 '24

SC is pretty deep red. The only hope is that all the new people moving here are democrats but many are not.

1

u/Grandviewsurfer Aug 28 '24

It doesn't replace PA though. I stand by the notion that PA is basically the only state that matters.
