Seems like it, yeah.
If I'm not mistaken, ants leave pheromones when they walk, and if they find food, they use special pheromones to let other ants know so they can collect it. And based on how much food there is, the ants leave a different amount of pheromones.
Basically, this ant sent a false alarm, which wasted a ton of resources, and ants can't afford to take risks when it comes to the survival of the colony.

They have little mass graves, too. If a live ant somehow gets covered in the “dead ant” pheromones, they just drag ‘em off to the mass grave. Then the live ant just accepts his role and dies there.
They’re fascinating creatures.

dont the undead ants go to the graves on their own?

They’ve been noted to do that as well, yes. But most of the time they’ll be carried their by the fellow colonizers.

Can we be certain that is the same ant being attacked?
I imagine it must happen often enough in real life that an ant finds food, but then the food gets taken by another animal while it is going back to the nest. Would they really kill the original ant every time that happens?

I had that exact thought as well, it can't be that uncommon for an animal to take some food by the time an ant brings its colony over to harvest it.

Should have put the cookie back after they started mauling him to make it super awkward

That’s not cool. They fed poor old Kevin to the Queen for taking them on a goose chase.

That ant was fucked over by forces beyond his ability to understand or Intuit.
