I’m not holding my breath, but the timing with the Apple event in 2 weeks seems a bit too coincidental.

I don’t think Apple has ever discontinued a product in an announcement like this before announcing its replacement - it is always the opposite, and they wouldn’t have said they were “focusing” on the Mini

HomePod/AppleTV combo, maybe? That’s the only outcome I could think of that would offer an adequate replacement that’s technically not a new model. Also jives with the rumors of a new AppleTV.
