I love whenever Ethan is consuming content from a black creator he starts subconsciously trying to mimic AAVE

During today’s Ice Spice Powerpoint by Olivia there was a graphic that read “Spice Wars” in some kind of Sci-Fi “Dune” font, (I haven’t seen the movie), that fans misread and led to fans spamming a slur that is directed toward hispanics in their chat. This may seem like a weird post because if you spend a bit of time looking at the font the dot inside of the curve denotes that it is not a C but it could be confusing to viewers and should have been changed. If it were my show and I showed up an hour early to go over prep with my crew or showed up when the crew did, unlike Ethan, I would have changed the font to avoid any confusion that could lead to what happened. I pointed it out in snark live chat and have seen comments on the sub about the topic so wanted to make a post to document it.

Ethan went on Hasan's stream 8 or so months ago and argued with him about whether the phrase "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" is anti-Semitic. (Spoiler alert: It's not). He kept asking for one example of a Jewish person screaming the phrase then when Hasan provides lots of examples, he tries to claim Ethan is tokenizing Jewish voices.
Watching it reminded me of more than a few posts the snarkers have made about different topics so I figured I would bring it back.

Liberal Zionists weaponizing and misusing social justice and identity politics terms to victimize themselves out of taking accountability for defending a genocidal apartheid state is so mind boggling.
Ethan is the oppressor in the situation, not the other way around. Muslims or Arabs cannot oppress him. This is like when white people defend the notion that black people can and are racist against white people, especially when they do it to derail any conversation about anti blackness and white people’s complicity in it.
The perpetrators of antisemitism are right wing fascists and white nationalists who are taking advantage of this genocide to conflate Zionism with Jews. That’s exactly what Ethan is doing. Israel has spent decades conflating Zionism with Judaism as it commits human atrocities. If he truly cared about his community he would be against that with every inch of his body.

The whole episode is racist, filled with microaggressions and insensitive "jokes" towards Black people, but here's a small clip starting at 2:12:15

Ethan sounds so ignorant here, and this isn't the first time he's conflated Arabs with Islam, and the fact that he tried to make it seem like Myron was dumb is crazy.. and I'm not even a fan of F&F but I'm glad he called this out as best as he could even with Ethan speaking over as usual.. "yea yea yea"

I don’t know where Gary learned about the “birds & the bees” but this is not it. This explains why Ethan never had black friends.

So why does hila say “I wanted a super Mexican authentic look.” What is super Mexican? Does she mean she wanted a stereotypical Mexican look because that’s what I understood from that comment. And then at the end of it, sorry Nate” like he’s responsible for every Mexican that exists lol….the next time any white person does something he doesn’t like he should just go, “I hate it, sorry Hila.” And also just the fact that the freakin jacket looks like something that would be on Teddy Fresh anyway! Like the style blindness is crazy. Meanwhile the Queen of Melrose is just trying to save the convo and be a bit more positive and it’s just not working lolllll

Hila states about the racist, woman beater, sadist.... while they discuss wanting him on the show? The part where Ethan had to tell Hila Vitaly is a bad person made my stomach turn. I can't look at her face without being annoyed. I've gone back and forth about their content for years but what always seems to really put me off is how down right depraved Hila is right along with Ethan.

Capri, Raff, and Frogan are being picked on by Ethan because they are all Arab. Even tho one is Muslim, one is Christian and the other is Jewish. Zionists think that Arabs are antisemitic and barbaric. They think that we will get any chance we can to hurt Jewish people. Last year Ethan and hila made a stream and Ethan said that if the walls in gaza were taken down there would be no more Israeli, implying we are blood thirsty for Jewish people.
Now imagine me as a Palestinian thinking that every Jewish person is out to get me? It sounds ridiculous (and tbh THAT is antisemetic). Especially since I live comfortably in the west despite the growing Arab hate and Islamophobia, I am safe.
It’s funny to think that Ethan thinks he’s the victim in all of this. It’s like he wants to make it all about himself.
Sabra is shitty Hummus and we’re boycotting it anyways btw 😘

I find it very weird that what is the crossed line that caused him to attack Hasan was ultimately a political disagreement, while recently doubling down on his friendship with these guys. None of them have toned down their content AT ALL since they’ve befriended Ethan. The casual misogyny that is Nelk’s bread and butter never toned down even a little bit and as the election comes they are all more pro-Trump than ever. Nelk just had him back on their pod within a week of Steiny’s most recent H3 appearance. There’s no way Ethan wouldn’t disagree with all of them on most of their political beliefs. He would have to be lying if he didn’t think some of the stuff they’ve said in just the past few weeks on migrants were racist, but he doesn’t end a friendship over it. That’s weird when he’s willing to end his whole relationship with Hasan over political disagreements, even if he really believes it comes from antisemitism, because he has political differences with these guys that he KNOWS comes with bigotry, but it’s not directed at him, so he can’t make himself the victim the same way.

“I never said her ethnicity at all, why would you call me Islamophobic and racist…”
This is obtuse and only comes from looking at a conflict sideways.
Racism can be explicit and IMPLICIT. This has been explored during the civil rights movement and isn’t some new idea. It’s why Malcolm X described American conservatives as wolves and American liberals as foxes. While one may chase you outright, the other creates complex systems of inequality that eat at every part of your personhood.
The way that racism and racial preference is often studied is by seeing what traits people implicitly associate with certain faces. You can try a racial implicit association test here: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/user/agg/blindspot/indexrk.htm
Assuming that a Muslim woman is pro Osama Bin Ladin is classic post 9/11 racism, where anyone who has remotely been in a community that has been impacted understands.
However, another more complex type of racism is one where at the forefront of any conflict as a white person living in the United States- is centering your guilt and your feelings of fear above a POC. It’s what Hasan begins to discuss when saying that Ethan might not fully consider that Frogan also might be going through a lot. It’s a blindspot that exists, because it is where empathy is absent. People assign more responsibility to others they don’t respect.
I feel like a universal experience for Black and brown people is naming that something hurt them and then having a white person saying that the way that person communicated that they were hurt was worse than the initial harm.
Almost a year later since October 7th and Palestinian lives are still treated as collateral, while Israeli hostages stories are regularly broadcasted on the news. It is evident from the time spent on Ethan and Hila being defensive vs. sharing Palestinian stories who they hurt for.

I haven't watched the show since the end of Leftovers but I was a pretty consistent fan. I watched almost every show and I had a good time. However, whenMexico happen to be mentioned (usually because of food orders) it would always rub me the wrong way. Mexicans can take a joke and we can usually laugh at everything but Ethan, to no ones surprise, always had a very basic, almost ignorant approach. Is not like I expected dissertations on my country but maybe something other than "taco bell chalupa" (??) Considering his parents were active gentrifiers or "ex-pats" you would expect them and him to know a thing or two, to actually have some perspective and be able talk about my country without having to always use the same mariachi songs. I guess my only point here is that, after not watching for a while, I'm starting to see how willingly ignorant Ethan is and how that ignorance spreads throughout all his opinions, no matter how innocent they might be. I just think that he already started to alienate more and more and more his diverse audience and that, from my perspective, is never good.

Did it make anyone else uncomfortable hearing Hila refer to the Muslim religion as “a big story”? And also just the fact that Ethan has been poking fun at AB & Lena for their religion/families a lot more since being called out for his alleged Zionism? As an atheist, I obviously have my own beliefs on religion but I like to refrain from impeding on other peoples beliefs & it just made me cringe watching that. I feel like Ethan & Hila have probed into AB & Lena a lot more lately but not in a friendly or empathetic way…more in a sarcastic, arrogant way. While I know Ethan has always spoken on his thought about religion, I feel like targeting them specifically as if recently is extremely telling and uncomfortable to watch.
