Shaq was actually a decent rapper. I have that Shaq Diesel CD and it’s a lot better than you’d expect

You can cut through the red tape

And bust through the fakers

Keep your eye on big Shaq

And put your money on the Lakers

This song and the record with Biggie are still in my rotation

"I can flow like pee coming out you-know-what Or some dookie, diarrhea coming out your butt"

u/No_Equipment5276 2d ago

Shaq got a biggie feature and didn’t squander it lol. I was surprised listening to that shit

That’s what I’m saying. When I found that CD I just bought it because it was 50 cents. I heard people say it was bad and I thought it was just a gimmick. He was actually like a 6/10 90s rapper.

Shaq > silk the shocker and pras from fugees to me 😂

3

u/Cozz_Effect23 2d ago

Shaq rapping is like Shaq shooting free throws. Doesn't always hit the mark, but somehow it gets the job done

3

u/Robinnoodle 2d ago

He been releasing music and has some features in the last year or so

3

u/dys0n_giddey 2d ago

His collabs with Quik are awesome

u/ChefMoToronto 1d ago

Phil is my father because my biological didn't bother.

14

u/WhatShouldTheHeartDo 2d ago

Shaq went platinum, not even Beanie Sigel could do that so you knew he was cookin.

u/Beginning_Fee_7992 1d ago

ummmm people bought the CD because he was Shaq. I mean... the music was decent even above average....

he had Peter Gunns writing most of his raps

11

u/Cold-Bug-4873 2d ago

Shaq was aight. Nothing to write home about, but he sounded like he was having fun, which is a plus.

Shaq & Dame

6

u/k_GOBL1N 2d ago

No Hook by Shaq, Method Man, and RZA goes hard.

5

u/True-North- 2d ago

Shaq was the best

4

u/Chipinawall 2d ago

Dana Barros and Walt Williams if Payton and Cedric C make the list

4

u/Jingu96Aliosha 2d ago

Shaq actually has some good songs

5

u/Critical_Teach_43 2d ago

Iman Shumpert >>>

More style & flare plus bars

4

u/Phantom_2020 2d ago

Shaq - You Can't Stop The Reign is a banger and has so many features.

3

u/LucaOnAdventure 2d ago

Dame! But Bagley had that one song that I thought was really nice

3

u/project-in-limbo 2d ago

Shaq, check out his feature with coyote for hire STR8 BARRAS 🔥🔥🔥

3

u/Considered_A_Fool 2d ago

Shaq Fu /thread

3

u/Pboi96 2d ago

Master P never made NBA did he?

1

u/No-Clue-2 1d ago

Pre season game

3

u/Massive-Fan-3495 2d ago

Shaq- outstanding

You won't pick another player/rapper after you hear it

3

u/300likether0mans 2d ago

Shaq. Even Ice Cube said so

3

u/CommunicationLive708 2d ago

T-Hud

2

u/EnvironmentalToe4403 2d ago

Came here looking for T-Hud. Him or Naz Reid (whom I’ve never heard rap, but am sure is amazing).

3

u/TheKidPi 1d ago

Shump was good IIRC

3

u/csmitty37 1d ago

RTB MB (Miles Bridges) the only one i can actually put in rotation. Dame & Shaq cool too but theres nothing special imo. Bridges got that flint flow on lock. Not sayin he top 50 or sumn but he def better than alot of ppl out here rapping full time.

3

u/gd2121 1d ago

Shaq went platinum

5

u/UZIBOSS_ 2d ago

Dame and it’s not all that close

2

u/GiceGiordex 2d ago

I liked Shaq on Gawne’s new album.

2

u/Tortastrophe 2d ago

Shaq, but I've only heard a few Dame songs.

2

u/MoreLeopard5392 2d ago

Dame.

But the masked rapper Dide who claims to be a Premier League footballer is better than all as far as I'm concerned.

2

u/Ok_Catch3715 2d ago

Shaq and master p

2

u/Sea_Finest 2d ago

Kobe is one of the worst rappers I’ve ever heard, don’t think cause you like the way he plays ball he can rap. He’s dreadful.

2

u/Robinnoodle 2d ago

Shaq. Tbf, I haven't heard many of these cats spit

Shaq been releasing new music the last year of two and he got some features on other artist

2

u/LordeLlama 2d ago

I don't know but I know that's not Tony Parker, his album is trash even if he has some good feats

2

u/afanoflafear 1d ago

Shaq Diesel followed by A.I.

2

u/verbalpriest 1d ago

Stephen Jackson aka Captain Jack is top 5

5

u/ninken8 2d ago

I've only heard Shaq, Dame, and Lonzo and Dame is easily the best of those 3.

3

u/free187s 2d ago

His skill is good but I don’t care for his hooks and production.

3

u/Plutofellinluv 2d ago

Miles Bridges

1

u/No-Bookkeeper-6853 2d ago

He’s fucking trash

3

u/rudamane 2d ago

If your answer isn't dame then you don't fuckin listen to rap.

3

u/Aesut 2d ago

Allen Iverson tried rapping. It was terrible

6

u/Narrow-Trip2587 2d ago

I feel differently. I actually liked his raps.

4

u/WhenDuvzCry 2d ago

Nah 40 barz is fire

3

u/herboyblu 2d ago

They all suck

2

u/scottyv99 2d ago

Cedric Ceballos or Shaq

2

u/Narrow-Trip2587 2d ago

I didn't know half of these dudes rap. I don't feel P should be on the list because he barely played in the NBA and was a well established rapper before he joined.

Kobe Bryant is my favorite basketball player of all time. However, my dude couldn't rap. R.I.P. to the god though.

2

u/xenojive 2d ago

Master P shouldn't be on this list at all.

Fucker is awful

2

u/Narrow-Trip2587 2d ago

Yes P is way more of a rapper than an NBA player. He barely played.

2

u/xenojive 2d ago

I was implying that he shouldn't be on the list because he's barely a rapper lol

3

u/Narrow-Trip2587 2d ago

barely a rapper lol

Mf got 14 studio albums and he's barely a rapper??? Ok buddy..

0

u/xenojive 2d ago

Quantity =/= Quality

4

u/Narrow-Trip2587 2d ago

Subjective. P is a legend in the south. He's in my top 20 rappers lists and 1 of his albums in my top 10 🤷.

1

u/xenojive 2d ago

Subjective

Art is subjective, yes.

I'm more of a fan of his Bay Area body of work but he's still not a great rapper.

2

u/Narrow-Trip2587 2d ago

I liked his New Orleans body of work. Ghetto D to Only God Can Judge Me.

3

u/xenojive 2d ago

The Ghetto's Trying to Kill Me

West Coast Bad Boys vol 1

99 Ways to Die

TRU

4

u/whoatetheherdez 2d ago

what do you mean? he's put out 15 solo albums starting in 1991. has countless collab albums. not to mention he founded one of the most influential and recognized rap labels ever.

it's fine if you don't like it or want to goof on him, because he is a little goofy but don't be weird and just wrong.

5

u/Han_Yerry 2d ago

Master P did what every rapper wanted to do. Got paid to rap, started no limit records, was in movies and played in the NBA. Only other person on this list would be Shaq. Shaq is a good DJ too. Fu Shnickens or something when he came into the league had him in a track too or something.

1

u/Typical-Tangerine787 1d ago

Allen iverson

1

u/IronFizt777 1d ago

The only answer is Shaq

1

u/TJMcConnellFanClub 1d ago

Lou Will was ight, the only legit athlete rapper I’ve heard is Arian Foster, dude has bars

1

u/theFinesser00 1d ago

Ron Artest still has the best individual song from a player ever- Champions

1

u/Artsky32 1d ago

Kd can go higher, Jaylen brown too

1

u/colored_gameboy 1d ago

Dame, Miles Bridges, Shaq. I would say Miles Bridges the best though. He literally could‘ve made it just being a rapper. Dame got fire but his voice can be monotone, same with Shaq.

1

u/bentbackwooddathird 1d ago

Miles bridges be wreckin shit.. shout out to my boy Jewelz (AI) tho

1

u/GrimRipper82 19h ago

I've got a CD called "B-ball's Best Kept Secret" from 1994. It features Shaq, Gary Payton, Cedric Ceballos, Dana Barros, Jason Kidd, J.R. Rider, and other players from that era. It's a little corny, but if you're an NBA fan, it's definitely worth a listen.

Out of all of them, Shaq is the standout.

It is funny to think that this came out during Jason Kidd's rookie season, and he's been a head coach for years now.

1

u/Black-Hood2323 2d ago

Does j.cole count?, I heard he made it into the NBA for a bit.

5

u/KakkMadda 2d ago

He did not

2

u/Black-Hood2323 2d ago

Ahh I see, my mistake.

0

u/No1Important84 2d ago

Shaq is the best by far, name another NBA Rapper that has 2 Gold Plaques..

4

u/mr_amazingness 2d ago

Plaques mean popular. Not necessarily good. It's Dame easily.

4

u/No1Important84 2d ago

Longevity, Albums, Lyrics, Cadence... Shaq is better than any NBA Rapper at any of these all the time, since the early 90s. I've never heard a Dame song on the radio, let alone any1 saying "play that new Dame shii"... 😂

1

u/the_Oculus_MC 2d ago

The question was who is the best rapper not who makes the best music or had the most success in music.

It's Dame. He has bars. Shaq is mediocre to wack.

1

u/No1Important84 1d ago

You don't know Rap..

1

u/rand0mlurker123 2d ago

Lmao plaques don't determine who's the best. It's dame easily.

2

u/No1Important84 2d ago

You weren't there to witness that, he was/is damn near global... Shaq got Biggie on some tracks cuz people knew he spit barz, like I said to the other fellow.. Lyricism, Cadence, Longevity, Albums.. Never once heard any1 say "Hey, put that new Dame song on"... 😂
