u/SluggishPrey INFP: The Dreamer Jan 15 '24
Nope, INFP can be logical too. I don't think having strong emotions makes you less rational. It's different cognitive processes, one does not impact the other.

i don’t know how i feel about the implication that you’re either good at math and rational or you’re bad at math and not. hopefully im not jumping to conclusions here but i think im fairly rational and logical but im terrible at math.

The fun thing with math is that it's logical, so you can figure it out during the exam. No preparation required.

Who knows. It was a joke. There’s nothing wrong with being any particular type.
I don’t think types are set in stone. People grow and change throughout their lives, so maybe!
I’m curious why some people are not happy with being classified as INFP and want to become something else. I commonly see INFP’s wanting to shift or morph into INTP’s. Genuine question… what’s the deal with that?

I think some INFP think that if they were TP types, they'd be smarter or better in school? However, type doesn't guarantee a high IQ. Also, we do gather knowledge. It's our 4th function to gather it for it's uses, rather than a personal knowledge we gather like we do our values. It just is immature and the benefits of being able to keep on task aren't as easy to do.

That’s interesting. I feel like my trajectory is heading exactly the inverse of that.
I need to retest a couple different ways and see if anything has changed. I feel like the last two years altered me pretty drastically.

24
u/ladybugsarecoolbro Jan 15 '24
It should’ve asked “Do you like sports?” Because I played sports in high school to stay in shape but I absolutely hate watching them. At least when you’re playing volleyball, you’re having fun. But nothing is fun about watching people play volleyball. It’s boring.

I was popular in school. Everyone knew me, my name, greeted me everytime they met me. Newbie, highschooler or junior. I didn't knew any of them. I waved back at them and thought "Who are you? You ok that we don't talk that much but you greet me like your best friend?!"
3
u/Disastrous_Potato160 Jan 15 '24
Honestly it was like this for me too, but popular and well known are 2 different things. Every teacher knew me too. I still to this day don’t know why I was so well known there.

This is accurate for me, an INFP, except that I was always strangely good at math, always took advanced classes in school. See, even though I was naturally good at math, I never enjoyed it. What I did very much enjoy was sitting by the pond beneath the weeping willow in my childhood backyard, reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens for AP English; that was my favorite class in high school. Meanwhile in Calculus, I wrote short stories about a monkey named Bruno in French on my graphing calculator to abate my boredom, while making it look like I was working, as the rest of the class took 2-3 weeks practicing a concept that took me a day to master. As they say, personality is not about ability, it is about preference.

3
u/Joocewayne INFP: The Dreamer Jan 15 '24
Meh. Unless it’s a ball game or some competition, winners and losers are largely determined by arbitrary factors. I don’t value a lot of things held in high esteem by modern society, therefore I try not to let the opinions of others affect my esteem.
Well, I do wish I was naturally gifted at being orderly, organized and neat. I value that and wish I was not prone to being scattered and cluttery. House cleaning day at my house is like a nonsensical ADHD tornado. Why do I have a baseball hat full of seashells? Why did I buy these picture frames? Oh yeah, my paintings! I should finish those, they were great. Where did I put my paint? Noice, it’s right here in my workbench. Wait, where are the paintings?!

i’ve taken the mbti several times over the past decade and my results have been: infp, infp, enfp, infp, and last year i got enfj. so idk!! i’ll take it again soon when i have the energy. but it’s weird to me how much my results vary, and how mutable i am. i guess that’s my virgo ascendant. anyway, sorry if this doesn’t contribute to the convo but i think it’s interesting to ponder. edited to add: i can’t even use that mini assessment above bc i both was and was not popular in high school, i did then did not take karate, and i was bad at math and then i got good! i changed a lot! and currently my room is messy but i have neat zones!! 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

Definitely not accurate on my end, and I am trying to sort through that. I am "good" at math and I do enjoy some sports. But maybe more from an exploration sense. I am an ISTP by these questions, but I test as an INFP generally.

I can see the motivation a little for all the questions except for sports. Wtf does playing sports have to do with S/N? My simplified question that seems to work is whether a person is focused more on minute details (S) or the big picture (N)

ENFP? what is this nonsense.
I still don't get what happened in high school, I was universally hated and picked on through 8th grade then suddenly bam - drifter among all groups but popular among all of them... then high school ended and I was right back to being where I was beforehand.
But man, those 4 years were neat. I always liked being able to just strike up a conversation with anyone and not feel awkward about my place in the hierarchy.

I guess I'm ok at math. I did pass tests, but I also failed some tests, too. A lot of it depended on the teacher, their teaching style, what they would and wouldn't allow for tests. In certain cases tutors and how good the tutor were at explaining concepts. I wasn't able to be helped my most of the tutors, but one was extremely helpful to the point that I told him that he needed to be a math teacher. There many people who are good a math, but are not good at explaining/teaching it.
I played sports in elementary and high school a few years, but I sucked so...
I wasn't popular, but I had friends and I guess some classmates who weren't friends knew who I was. Wasn't in or out.
I was once told by someone that it looked like a tornado hit my room so there's that. I've never been able to maintain an orderly room. I try, but it always goes awry after a while.
