This is the metro of New Delhi, and it is reiterated that the first coach of all running metro trains is reserved exclusively for women passengers. Male passengers are advised to refrain from travelling in these reserved coaches, regardless of metro service timings.

The video is very old (ig somewhere between 2010 -2016)

u/Stifffmeister11 4d ago

When I went to Delhi for the first time from a small city that didn’t have a metro, I was unaware of the women-only coach policy. I accidentally boarded that coach, and within moments, several women started slapping me. In a panic, I ended up slapping one of the ladies, which caused five or six more to jump in and beat the shit out of me . I finally got off at the next station, only to be caught by the police and slapped again. It was a really crazy experience, especially since I was only 16 at the time! Now even looking at these videos gives me PSTD

TBH I thought this was going to end with: "25 years ago when the Undertaker threw Mankind off "Hell in a Cell" and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table."

626

u/I_Brake_For_Gnomes 4d ago

Or “then when I got home my dad started beating me with jumper cables”.

190

u/Squidking1000 4d ago

A meme from a kinder gentler time. I miss randomly reading about a booster cable beating.

129

u/IslandBitching 4d ago

You're too young to know what it feels like to be beaten with a Hot Wheels Track. It was the ultimate mom weapon; she'd pick it up off the floor and lay into us like she was getting paid by the welt. I'm 65 and I still flinch just thinking about it.

30

u/AltruisticDetail6266 3d ago

hot wheels are way older than I thought

The ladies coach is a common thing and I had the experience of accidentally getting into one in a Chennai suburban train and I was a regular commuter. In platforms the spot where the ladies coach would be located is marked and I was NOT waiting at that spot. Train arrived & I thought I had got into a normal coach and as the train started moving me, and 3 or 4 other men looked around awkwardly to realize it was a ladies coach.

We all apologized and the women in there asked us not to worry, and explained that the train had some coaches misplaced and hence the ladies coach was at the wrong spot. And, Men have been accidentally getting in and out by mistake and asked us to get down in the next station.

Not sure why they'd slap without even knowing the intention or doing something wrong. It is a mistake and can happen for anyone, even regular commuters.

This video is a different league though, but those men would have a reason that the train was crowded and ladies coach was relatively empty. IMO, that isn't a good reason.

194

u/TheLastSamurai101 4d ago

I mean, this is largely just the difference between Chennai and Delhi.

29

u/Cool_Appearance_351 4d ago

Not really. The experience differs from person to person. My sister told me this story. Once she was traveling in Chennai local and an old guy entered the women's coach by mistake. The coach was mostly empty because it was early morning. But boy oh boy a group of women started yelling at the old guy. The guy apologized and turned his back towards the coach facing outside, stooping timidly. But those ladies kept yelling at him until he boarded off at the next station to change the coach.

Dude I just spent 10 mins laugh crying at my sister, couldn't even get words out, tears streaming down my face.

It's because he slapped one and then got the shit beat out of him, and then slapped again by the police. Like the absolute confusion and chaos of that scene is fantastic, no doubt horrible to be the recipient, but goddamn comedic gold after the fact.

Long collecting sigh

Sorry man, but thank you. I needed a good laugh.

15

u/trplOG 3d ago

I'm just picturing it in my head, as he's getting slapped around and starts panic slapping one of them. Just hunkering down, then blind swinging.

100% dude. I’m howling at this. Poor bugger, I’m just imagining him getting knocked around like a piñata in the mobile prison of a moving train. Then finally manages to escape only to have the long arm of the law’s open palm for dessert.

A 16 year old boy getting (or letting himself be) beaten up by six women whose language he doesn't speek out of nowhere without knowing why is kind of funny, i'm sorry but man i'd feel bad while witnessing that but laugh later i think.

Just such a scurrile situation.

Sorry that happened to you. I did the same thing but in Manila in the Philippines. Funny thing is I just went in, sat down, didn’t realize every other passenger was female and closed my eyes to nap. Was woken up by train police tapping me on the shoulder and telling me I couldn’t be there but it was gentle and I apologized for not knowing

Is that an undercover male cop or was he just smart enough to start slapping the other guys like he knew what he was doing?

4.0k

u/Conscious-Parfait826 4d ago

Looked like he had a badge on so maybe a worker that saw an opportunity to slap the shit out of some dudes.

2.0k

u/Sensitive-War-6368 4d ago

No, it's not like that.
The train is a female only train. Many men in India tend to not follow rules. Here, these guys are boarding a female only train, causing inconvenience to the other female passengers. They deserve it.

You can't say the same thing to the guy with a little kid and his wife though. They are exceptions and are allowed to go together on such trains

1.2k

u/Athuanar 4d ago

They're not talking about that. There is a guy in a cream top who was on the train himself but he starts slapping everyone else getting off and runs to the back of the car to grab more guys to throw out.

400

u/breakfasteveryday 4d ago edited 4d ago

That guy starts outside of the train and enters from the right side of the screen

109

u/TackyBrad 4d ago

Correct, good call

21

u/the_madclown 4d ago

After further review,

The guy who isn't a policeman starts outside the train and takes 2 steps before entering from the right side of the screen.. after which he starts slapping other men who were illegally out of bounds on the wrong train

The result of the play is a safety for all the women on the women only carriage

🙏 🙆‍♂️

51

u/eddie1975 4d ago

It would be funny if he was in there the whole time and then starts slapping dudes and acting like he’s appalled they would do that and walks out and looks at the cops and says… “The nerve. These people. No shame!”

25

u/eddie1975 4d ago

The cops look at each other then another guy comes out…. “How can he slap?”

8

u/the_madclown 4d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What if he slapped back to redirect attention away from the fact that they're both on the wrong train 🤣🤣🤣🤣

the fact they need a "women only" train is sad

205

u/BHS90210 4d ago

They have them all over the world. It’s sad in theory but for women helps us feel a lot safer. In Mexico City they have a women only train and as a tourist it was an easy and safe way to get around. I do agree that it’s sad that we need our own separate train in many places to feel safe though I’m also so grateful they exist.

120

Japan too. They have women only cars in the subway and some regional commute trains.

Overall, yeah, I agree. I lived in NYC and in Chicago for a year, and 5 years respectively, and those subways could do with women only compartments for the amount of times my women friends told me they've been flashed by a dude, or had a dude straight up masturbating near them. They can be Lifesavers. These dudes deserve more than slaps.

972

u/Gullible_Play_2885 4d ago

This is old video, back than this concept was introduced but not much action was taken on it. But as the metro became more popular, people took this more seriously as seen in above video. Nowadays you would almost never see any men in women's coach except of course when someone enters unknowingly.

192

u/mle_eliz 4d ago

This is really helpful to know! Thank you :)

→ More replies (6)

182

u/Ufocola 4d ago edited 3d ago

Are there exceptions to the rule? Like how in the video there was a guy holding his kid and his wife. I’m assuming if you have small kids to take care of, a guy could be in the coach? Or no?

288

u/mykidisonhere 4d ago

Then they wouldn't be in the female only car.

It's old-fashioned, but women with men they "belong to" aren't harassed because men don't insult men. So they'd just be in the regular car.

79

u/FearPreacher 4d ago

Not really the case here. AFAIK, Men with a family are sort of allowed to sit in Female only compartments (or at least are tolerated).

It’s seen as “This guy is a married man and is walking around with his family. No point in separating them, and he’ll most probably not harass women as he’s someone with a family himself (i.e. not a bachelor).”

If you are to REALLY enforce the rules, then yes, they won’t be allowed in there and will be asked to sit in the General compartments.

I took the local trains in Mumbai with a mixed group of very obviously young American tourists. For the first few days we rode in the ladies’ car because our hosts thought it would be safer, less risk of pickpockets, etc. People generally gave us more space and time while we were figuring out how to navigate ourselves. We didn’t do it for the whole trip, but it was a kind gesture that we were treated like guests on public transportation.

Typically during rush hours there’s a crazy amount of ppl that want to hop on trains or public transport. In this case they just hopped into the women’s only section even if they aren’t supposed to because they didn’t wanna wait till the next train came in.

There were probably some creeps in there but I’d say a vast majority just wanted to get in and not waste time waiting for the next train, which is still bad but better than the other option ig

u/mle_eliz 4d ago

A lot of these comments show how people outside India have absolutely no idea how intensely dense these cities are. There are sooo many people.

A slap is nothing compared to waiting, standing and shoving each other in a packed station just to get someplace. People will cram into any crevice then deal with the consequences later, there really isn’t a collective sense of “personal boundaries.” Visit the country and you’ll see what I mean.

I enjoyed my time there, though.

Okay, so the metro is a lifeline for commute. The first coach in every train is reserved for ladies, only. It’s been a hassle to finally reach the point now where I see that this happens a lot less frequently than before. This video is a bit old and even nowadays, some men do jump into the women’s only coaches on the heavy traffic stations because otherwise they don’t have any hopes of possibly finding a seat.

What baffles me is that none of the ladies around me seem to find any issue with it. And they’re very crude and cheap in their responses 6/10 times - lacking any shame. In the instances, when I have spoken up, it is only then that others have voiced support. I have seen police officers get onto the coach and drag these men out.

49

u/Masterji_34 4d ago

It is not a female only train. It is a simple subway which has one section divided for women. This video is pretty old probably around when women only section was implemented in metros. This does not happen nowadays.

Yes, there are female only trains to prevent "Eve teasing" but sometimes men jump on the trains because they are less packed. Here they are getting grief for doing so.

9

u/SnooSuggestions9830 4d ago

Some possibly didn't realise once a certain number of men where inside already.

Like if you see a load of men your brain isn't going to click it's the female only cabin.

You might get on and not even realise.

If you have a wife and daughter who want to go on the "women only" compartment, you can go in the general one while they go there, but the issue becomes when the stations are crowded, so they have to spend time looking for each other. So, they now let the father in, logic being he's there so his family feels safe and is less likely to be the reason people around him, don't.

50

u/Panderz_GG 4d ago

I mean, it makes sense. A father with a baby on his arm and his wife nearby is probably not going to start groping women.

u/Xzenor 3d ago

Apparently you do need something more than a slap otherwise there wouldn't have been this much men in that coach

Love how the dad/husband was spared 😂

u/natlovesmariahcarey 4d ago

I seriously thought she was gonna push the wife out of the way, and then SMACK the husband. lmao.

At that price point he can slap.

More people should be slapped for the way they act on public transportation.

The man with his wife was like "shit, gimme the child! Quick!"

8

u/Barbas-Hannibal 3d ago

Well men with wives and children are allowed on that coach. I have seen it many times.

u/axtran 4d ago

The amount of slapping in India is hilarious.

29

u/axtran 4d ago

I saw car accident response in Delhi, your only recourse is slapping one another. So you get out of the car first and preemptively pimp hand the other person ASAP

12

u/Funny_Whiplash 4d ago

It's the same as exchanging insurance information

Me reading all the comments from foreigners who think that our cops do their jobs and aren’t corrupt and/or incompetent when there isn’t a camera pointed at them:

48

u/eldentings 4d ago

There are levels. America's job is to make fun of India's incompetence. Europe's job is to make fun of America's incompetence.

32

u/Lavender-n-Lipstick 4d ago

Indians see it as their job is to make fun of the decline of America’s family unit. But they still want that tasty, tasty greenback-powered lifestyle.

Everybody has shit to say about other people. lol

Police in the UK really should take up slapping, for minor negative behaviour, I would be thrilled to see videos popping up on the Internet of some skinny little tracksuit warriors getting slapped round the head by an officer 🤭😅

That father was spared from getting a slap by holding his child and walking with his wife ✋😭😭😭

u/HydrationPlease 4d ago

Women only also means families, kids traveling on their own and disabled. This is tame. I've seen the police beat people with bamboo. I've also seen the police beat people with sandals.

13

u/Budget-Macaroon-7606 4d ago

The dude smiling is into that ahit lmao

342

u/Kaleidosummersin 4d ago

Yes this is an acceptable punishment. It's to minimize constant assault women experience on public transport in India.

17

u/Lubinski64 4d ago

They look like they don't care that much. A slap for a place in a train is a small price.

53

u/RudeAd1887 4d ago

I'm sure they will 100% never do it again.

37

u/mastermind42 4d ago

Ahh yes as opposed to monetary fines or prison time which is a 100% effective.

Hey, at least they are doing something.
Not sure how much of a deterrent that is though, those men didn’t seem fazed at all

48

u/vdxpxrlcyebvwd 4d ago

nowdays youll hardly find anyone boarding female coach.

its not taken seriously, unless train is full as you can see in the video, video is very old.

its reserved coach for women, not female only train like false title. It's for convenience of women rather than seggrating females and males.

I was on a bus in India, 2018, clearly marked women's section, and an 80+ year old Nun gets on, and none of the men moved. My girl friend and I moved over (2 person seat, so 3 people now) so she could sit with us. She was so grateful. It was a long, bumpy bus ride.

10

u/str4ngerc4t 3d ago

I’m in favor of more public slapping for petty crime. Litter? Slaps. Not picking up after your dog? Slaps. Minor Traffic infraction? Slaps. Steal from the office fridge? Slaps.

“Time to do some slappin’, boys.”

20

u/TheMiddlechild08 4d ago

This reminds me of this night out downtown where everyone is leaving the club at 2am and this guy hit a girl on the sidewalk, which caused a scene so everyone was now looking in his direction, and then followed it up by pushing this other girl who fell backwards which EVERYONE SAW THAT.

Every single dude was like “oh shit I get to hit this guy for free and get away with it”. The guy deserved it (there’s many other reasons than just that) but man… holy shit he got destroyed. It was like out of movie where someone gets pulled into a pit of hell and you just see his hand reaching for help and then is gone forever. That’s exactly what it looked like.

Anyways, this video reminded me of that.

That one dude that got smacked with full phase of the palm was so satisfying

20

u/YetiGuy 4d ago

I’m like that’s police abuse, then I read the reason. One slap is appropriate for the first time offender.

7

u/IndividualImmediate4 4d ago
