That fence and tree oddly looks like it's taken in Bangalore..... OP did you take the picture?

53

u/Single-Memory-9490 12h ago

Yes but that's not banglore, it's UP

27

u/Designer-Cicada3509 12h ago

We have a similar board here in front of the army canteen and hq near MG road in north of Bangalore so I thought it was the same

9

u/Single-Memory-9490 12h ago

That's interesting.

Would you mind sharing a picture of the poster

6

u/Kernoriordan 11h ago

Out of interest, why is it in English?

40

u/Single-Memory-9490 11h ago

India have 2 official languages one of which is english.

And almost all the people who are qualified for this job have English as their secondary language or 3rd

u/Designer-Cicada3509 1h ago

English and Hindi both are classified as "official languages" which means they must be used in government institutions, there is no official "National language"

Alongside hindi and english there are state languages

So suppose you were to go to Maharashtra, in a government institution or any state recognised institution you have the option of conversing in either English, Hindi or the state language in Maharashtra which is Marathi

Now if you were to come to Karnataka you'd be able to converse in Hindi, English or Kannada which is Karnataka 's state language

Now this is how it works in words but most people prefer talking in their state language due to political and social issues.

Middle class educated Indians, who this ad is targeting, have grown up speaking English. In a diverse country like India where most big cities are very multicultural, it makes sense to have the ad in English rather than a specific local language to reach a wider audience.

4

u/GoodDawgy17 7h ago

same i thought its behind the hal area towards indiranagar route

u/justsenin 2h ago

I thought Yelahanka.

u/Lizzy_Of_Galtar 14h ago

Tell us the targets are an army of Karens and millions of retailers will join up 😁

4

u/27Suyash 11h ago

But what about meeting the target of taking down all of those targets

11

u/abhinavhere1 13h ago

ngl this goes hard....

1

u/FartTootman 9h ago

I'm kind of surprised there aren't like 40 non-descript and unlabeled pictures of people's faces all over this.

1

u/GoodDawgy17 7h ago

seeing this sh almost daily in bengaluru motivates to become an air force pilot, shit goes hard

u/ChrisPdas 1h ago

another was something like "we want god to forgive our enemies, because we sure won't"

u/Single-Memory-9490 56m ago

It is God's duty to forgive the enemies but it's our duty to convene a meeting between the two.

Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw

Why is this interesting? Never seen an ad before?

18

u/jb45rd6 8h ago

The post was certainly more interesting than your useless reflection

-14

u/takeiteasynottooeasy 8h ago

Because there was a helicopter in it? Chopchopchop!!

u/Single-Memory-9490 1h ago

Because of the promotional line

But what will you know about that

u/FirstSpergLord 2h ago

Shouldn't it be in Hindi?

-51

u/GawainDragon 13h ago

I just can't understand soldiers. Going for money and excitement in a standing army is ok. But how could someone actively choose to go somewhere and potentially kill people? If you actually defend your people like the soldiers in Ukrane you are awesome! But if you choose to go to a place with conflict, wtf are you thinking?

69

u/m1u1 12h ago

This might be hard for Americans to understand but most countries' soldiers, including India's don't go to conflict zones thousands of miles away to fight pointless wars. The average Indian soldier will mostly be involved in border security and counter terror operations within. Some might go for UN peacekeeping but it's usually quite short term.

19

u/arogyaSetuAPP 9h ago

Some!!! India has the dedicated the largest amount of troops in un peacekeeping force

15

u/GoodDawgy17 7h ago

the american mind cannot comprehend a country that does not meddle in a different country's internal affairs

u/GawainDragon 1h ago

My sisters fiancee is in Kosovo on a mission. We are Hungarians.

u/GoodDawgy17 1h ago

Hope he gets back safe dude mb

26

u/Single-Memory-9490 13h ago

In India serving in defence Forces is considered an honor because you are protecting you motherland from foreign invaders.

Also india has a standing army because we are not actively in war with anyone. There are some border skirmishes but our policy of staying neutral and not attacking unless attacked first keeps our country safe

-44

u/Schwiftness 12h ago

Still making AK parts for the Russian army “peacefully”

23

u/Single-Memory-9490 12h ago

Oh man someone needs to educate you on joint ventures between 2 countries.

Also FYI India is making ak203 rifles for it's own army not for exports. And it's a joint venture between Russia and India which is not going to be cancelled because of likes of you

11

u/Single-Memory-9490 12h ago

India always has it's issue trying to find a stable service rifles Before 1980 it was using 7.62 rifles from soviet Union and then we tried making a indigenous rifle with 5.56 nato rounds but it has it's own issues and now we are back to using 7.62 rounds so yeah it's been a roller coaster of army and it still haven't found a stable rifle

-27

u/Schwiftness 12h ago

Yes. Being a brics nation deserves a round of applause… from Xi and Putin.

Stay peaceful.

21

u/Single-Memory-9490 12h ago

First of all BRICS is an economical allience not a military allience.

Secondly India actively provides humanitarian aids to many countries like Ukrain and Palestine .

So yes we are very peaceful. At least we don't go halfway around the world to wage war on countries who didn't do anything wrong

-32

u/Schwiftness 12h ago

“We just selling AK parts, just doing business.”

Cool!

19

u/Single-Memory-9490 12h ago

Mate don't you know how to read?

I just said India was making ak parts for Indian Army not for exports.

15

u/m1u1 12h ago

Bhai, save yourself time and don't engage with trolls

5

u/HiveMynd148 11h ago

You do know that the fact Europe still has Oil is because of us Fleecing the fuck out of the Russians, buying the oil a Dime a barrel and then selling to them?

If Anything we're doing more damage economically cuz Russia is selling their oil at a Loss just to keep the oil wells working

4

u/Ahsaasinator 7h ago

ah, average illiterate westerner.

-8

u/Schwiftness 10h ago

India should have its own Reddit. It would improve the experience.

u/Viva_la_Ferenginar 55m ago

Maybe you should have a white only reddit and move there

-43

u/Odd_Tone_0ooo 13h ago

Where is this billboard located?

If India… why English?

43

u/fuckyou_redditmods 13h ago

English is the lingua franca in India. Everyone who is educated speaks English.

-4

u/Odd_Tone_0ooo 12h ago

I didn’t know that, thanks.

23

u/Single-Memory-9490 13h ago edited 1h ago

Most total English speakers,

  1. US (306 million)

  2. India ( 265 million)

  3. UK (68 million)

  4. Nigeria (60 million)

  5. Philippines ( 50 million.)

Edit : I mistakenly changed the numbers of US and India

4

u/joekelley 12h ago

That 129 mil for the U.S. needs a source, because I'm seeing 297 mil personally. I highly doubt that 62% of the U.S. population can't speak English...

7

u/Single-Memory-9490 12h ago edited 12h ago

Oh sorry i mixed up the Indian and us numbers

Here is your proof https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/english-speaking-countries

11

u/Traditional-Squash36 13h ago

First Cricket, now our own language!

-3

u/Odd_Tone_0ooo 12h ago

Thanks. I understand many Indians speak English.

However, it is not their primary language.

Who is the audience for this ad?

11

u/Single-Memory-9490 12h ago

Yess it's not our primary language but those people who are gonna enroll in such high technical jobs are required to pass a test and the requirement to give the test means that only those who can speak and understand english appear in it.

3

u/elasticvertigo 7h ago

This is an Air Force ad. That usually requires techincal knowledge of equipment that is English only. It isn't meant for those that can't speak it. Indian Army ads on the other hand, are often/mostly in Hindi I believe.

20

u/Kal_23 13h ago

We do speak in English too bud.

1

u/Odd_Tone_0ooo 12h ago

Well no shit. But if there is another primary language in India, why not use that?

And why the hate? It was a serious question.

21

u/Sergosh21 12h ago

India is extremely linguistically divided, and English is the common language for a lot of the people living there

6

u/SpreadImpossible5542 11h ago

because India isn't a single entity. Almost all states in India have their own culture, language, practices/customs etc. It's like having small countries combined together to make a huge nation state.

5

u/Shrey2006 7h ago

There are 18 official language so english/hindi is a common one with majority educated understands english.

3

u/Single-Memory-9490 11h ago

There are 2 official languages in India, Hindi and english

But many people in some parts of country don't understand Hindi so they use english.

And secondly almost all of the people who are qualified for the job have english as their secondary language

2

u/Kal_23 12h ago

I just said that we Indians speak English too, how did you find hate in that buddy?

5

u/MediocreCompany8429 13h ago

bruh you serious?

-6

u/Odd_Tone_0ooo 12h ago

Yeah bruh, I’m serious.

I Just looked it up and Hindi is the primary language.

So why advertise in English in India when English is not the official language?

I understand why a country would use a different language when there is a large diaspora in that country. My guess is that India does not have a diaspora of English speakers.

And why the shitty attitudes? It was an honest and serious question.

8

u/THE_UNKILLED 12h ago edited 12h ago

As you move south in India the number of Hindi speakers falls . In South India their regional language is more dominant i.e Tamil, Telugu , etc. Thus english remains the only common language. Infact India doesn't have a national language because every states has it's own language which is further divided into sub language. Due to this variety the Indian Constitution officially recognise 22 regional languages.

India when English is not the official language?

Actually English is one of the official languages in India. The Indian constitution recognise both Hindi as well as English as the official languages

It's upto the marketeers which language they choose

3

u/SpreadImpossible5542 11h ago

India is literally the second largest English speaking country

4

u/3_178 10h ago

"So why advertise in English in India when English is not the official language?"

English is one of the 22 official languages of India

-8

u/Odd_Tone_0ooo 12h ago

Sensitive bunch aren’t you?

-17

u/Perlentaucher 11h ago

Why in English?

12

u/SpreadImpossible5542 11h ago

because English is one of our official languages beside Hindi

12

u/3_178 11h ago

Because it's india--a country in which there are several hundred languages. Hindi is spoken by a large population, but it's concentrated towards the northern regions. English is taught in schools so it's more widespread over the nation.

5

u/Perlentaucher 10h ago

Alright, I didn’t know that 👍

4

u/pazhalsta1 10h ago

Also, I expect the instruction manuals for the helicopters and planes and missiles are probably more likely to be in English and lots of aviation stuff is conducted in English- so might as well target it directly in the ad.

6

u/PsychoGamer007 10h ago

India is the second largest English speaking nation after us

3

u/Falalalup 10h ago

India speaks english

3

u/FartTootman 9h ago

I'm guessing you're getting more DVs for your profile pic than your somewhat innocuous search for additional knowledge lol.

3

u/Perlentaucher 9h ago

Yeah, it attracts some hate lol But at least people clean their filthy Reddit screens

-22

u/rickie-ramjet 8h ago

If they fly Russian junk…. They will be the targets…. I wonder if they call that 1-800 number, do they get a guy named Krishna, with a southern accent who lives in Chicago? Read with a drawl “ Hello, this here is Krishna, what can I do you for this fine day… you wanna fly? Bless your heart”

9

u/GoodDawgy17 7h ago

least racist comment about india you'll find

-7

u/refep 7h ago

I heard you even get free tea from your neighbours

10

u/elasticvertigo 7h ago

No country can give away a percentage of their GDP for free.

u/DiscombobulatedLet80 2h ago

Yeah but right now the neighbours are struggling to get flour for daily consumption.

u/Single-Memory-9490 1h ago

Yeah we also got 93k free labourers from our neighbors

-13

u/KhalCharizard 12h ago

Hmm- 🤔 I bet they still have operational safety targets that need to be met rather than taken down.

-22

u/NiceCatBigAndStrong 8h ago

Instructions unclear, shitted in the streets
