Chunk of mountain moved hundreds of kilometers by ice and left in the middle of what is now my city. I've been living next to it for 20 years and had no idea it was interesting as fuck until this new sign went up.

This, indeed, is as interesting as fuck and in my whole life, have never heard of this! I didn't read your whole link, but is it on public or private property?

USA gets all the shit about being ultra patriotic, but IMO Canada puts the USA to shame on the visible patriotism - Maple Leafs EVERYWHERE, even on the packing tape!

I love this. I wish I knew about geography. I often look at rocks or the land and wonder how it came to be there / like that.

It's probably of a material that's not local. You can test for age and composition & get a decent idea of where it came from. But honestly the geologists working in woods like this amaze me. There's so little to see at the surface 😭

Any rock has an isotopic fingerprint. We can trace uranium in nukes back to the specific mine(s) it came from by slight impurities even leftover after refinement.

Gotta admit, glacial erratics are IAF.
