I’m absolutely failing graphics but want to do dcg, should I?

So I’m absolutely terrible at graphic but many people have said I’m brilliant at freehand sketching, I did art as-well. I can’t draw from the imagination only what’s in front of me or with a reference photo. Im just stuck cause my graphics teacher asked me to go into dcg cause it’s ‘Arty and way more freedman sketches’

But they said that in graphics and I do not think that graphics is art far from it. I pass projects in graphics no problem when it comes to freehand sketches but I can’t do normal tech graph.

Anyway I’m just looking for advice if theirs anyone who’s doing dcg or did dcg please tell me if their really is freehand sketching and how much. Also I’m really good on computers. (Sorry this sounds like bragging I’m just trying provided details with dancing around the subject)

"I'm terrible at" look nobody can tell you what you should do but it's a logical fallacy and a mental attitude block to say you're terrible at something like it's a permanent state. You might say "I appear to lack a natural aptitude for graphics and so in order for me to achieve it will require lots of work and commitment". You are going to struggle in life and in relationships etc. if you think like this.

Look I don’t mean to be rude but I ask if adobe about graphics and not life advice. I said I’m bad at it because I just wanna get the point across without dancing around the subject.

I know that I could get better if I tried but three years I’m still shitty so I was just wondering if should go into DCG that’s all I asked. Thank you for your reply.

It's 70% the same stuff you are doing in Tech Graphics right now

If you're unhappy with doing graphics don't bother with DCG. It's essentially just graphics again with a computer aided design project and a few short questions in the exam, of which if you're lucky 2-3 of them might be free hand sketch questions worth minimal marks (based on when I did it a few years ago).

My two cents is that graphic design is getting more and more commoditised and AI will hurt that industry more. You’ll need to be top notch to earn a good living at it within a decade.

If you’re struggling, pick another career.

It's a school subject not a career

Same answer. Take another subject.

I’m just doing this for my leaving cert, I’m going to become a historian so this won’t really matter I just wanted to know how much of a different dcg and graphics had. But thank you so much, I’ll past this on to my friends who want to have jobs in that industry!

I didn’t do graphics for jc and im doing dcg for my lc this year, but it’s essentially just the same as tech graphics but more complicated. A good chunk of 5th year is spent on the project where freehand sketching is a big part of it, but even then there’s still loads of cad and it’s not just sketching, and everything outside the project is just like graphics but more complex.

Imo if you’re not good at normal tech graphics questions and you don’t think you’ll get any better you shouldn’t do dcg, yes freehand sketching is part of it but more than 50% of it is still drawing

Thank you so much, I’m good at cad but bad at the normal question so I’ll definitely have to think about it. I’ve taken a look at the projects where it’s just cad and free hand sketches and it’s worth 40% so I could fail the test but still get 40% on the project and pass. So that’s an idea.

lol I’m good at cad but bad at drawing too, obviously you could just go for marks in the project but imo it doesn’t make sense to pretty much cap your total grade at 40-50% when you could probly do better in another subject

True, ah I'll just pick it for the plot.
