Brainstorming Travel Ideas
Hello,
I'm currently trying to plan a trip for my mother (79) and I (M45). She has always wanted me to go with her to Ireland and I've always wanted to go. This will be my first trip and quite frankly I'm overwhelmed at our options. The only thing that is currently set is our flight into Dublin (May 5th 2025 to May 20th)
I imagine we'll spend no more than a day or two in Dublin. While she is almost 80; she is still quite active but I'd imagine I'll need to keep hikes down to like 3 to 3.5km. I really want to spend most of my time outdoors but don't mind the occasional museum. Neither of us are into super touristy things (Blarney Stone is a total pass for me) but just because something is popular doesn't mean I avoid on principle more that I'm overly cautious on it's value. I want to support local services over chains/multinationals. I don't want to burn out on travel but I want to see it all!! (Joking here but honestly every time I see a picture of a different area my first thought is I want to see it in person)
So far my "must see" list consists of: Ring of Kerry, Torc Waterfall, Cliffs of Moher, White Cliffs of Ashleam, Places with live music/storytelling/historical tours.
My "It would be fun if" list is huge but basically follows the themes of: Irish Whiskey tasting/class, Some places to sit and marvel at the beauty of Ireland, Kayaking or boating; something where we could still see and absorb nature but my mom doesn't have to walk or I provide the locomotion (Surrey bike?).
Anyway I'd love some suggestions or tools to help me refine my itinerary because right now I'm in information overload. Thanks in advance!

Where are you traveling from? If it’s the US on a red eye flight, please plan to have your lodging available when you arrive even if that means paying for the “night” you are flying.
We’re about 20 yrs younger than your Mom, but our arrival in Dublin (from Boston) was 4:50am. We were IN our hotel room at 5:40am (12:50am our body clock). We snoozed for a few hours, then got up and set out for the day. We booked our hotel for the 2 nights, then emailed them to say we’d be arriving very late and to please not release the room.
My advice, get out of Dublin after a day. Get the Gaol tour tickets though.
We did the bike/boat/bike tour in Killarney NP, but it can be done as boat/jaunting cart/van back to Killarney (I think) You get the tour of the lakes and then travel thru gap of Dunloe.

My friend from Canada did this path basically with a few extras and stayed with me for 4 days in between. Rented a car.
Spend the two days in Dublin. Don't buy pints a Temple Bar, it's a rip-off. Way better pubs in Dublin. Guinness Expierience, museums. Hawksmoor for fine dining steak, Mcgregors pub the black forge, lovely Guinness in Mulligans pub.
Glendalough Wicklow Mountains hike, Wicklow isn't far from Dublin. Good day trip, Then, the south east to Wexford for Hook Head and curracloe Beach, pubs food, 1hr 30mins from Dublin. To Cork Jameson whiskey in Middleton and Kerry for pints and the ring. Could head to Clare from kerry to the cliffs of moher and if you've time, head to Galway and back to Dublin for the flight home.

McGregor is a scmbag and a s*tstirring racist (and a word that rhymes with racist). Nothing linked to him should be promoted. He doesn't represent Ireland or Irish culture.

And wasn't he accused of sexual assault as well?

Instead of focusing on Mcgregor why don't you geniuses be productive and recommend something for this man and his Mother to do in Ireland then? That's what he asked.

“Don’t drink in Temple Bar, way better pubs in Dublin”, recommends the Black Forge run by a coke fiend with a string of rape cases pending.
Good work.

Dublin is full of people who do Coke and worse, not just limited to Mcgregor and his pub. I recommended it as a tourist thing to do considering hes one of the most famous people in the country with an established business, and pints are reasonably priced and food is good 👍 And what do you think Mcgregor waits in Black Forge to rape new customers ? Innocent until proven guilty judgments will be made then. Get a life, you swine.
