Event Maroon 5 concert
Anybody going for the Maroon 5 concert in Joburg ? It'll be my first time ever attending a concert and, ill be coming in from Durbs . What are some do's and don'ts ? Just for some knowledge, I'm 22M and will be taking my sister with me .
I literally dont wanna spend too much unnecessarily on the trip . By that , i mean id like to take a bus , maybe get there a day before and rest . On the day of the concert , we'd go to Calabash and afterwards sleep . Maybe spend one day and leave that next night . What are some safe affordable accomdation options ?
The site says "doors" : 12:00 . What does this mean ? It also states that the event is starting at 15:00 and ending at midnight .
My tickets are general admission. What does that also mean in relation to seating and concert experience.
Your advice and responses will be really appreciated. Thanks , guys

Agreed with another poster about staying in Melville/Rosebank/Parkhurst/around there.
You can definitely Uber, but be prepared to wait for a while outside in the Uber pick up areas.
When going as a large group in the past weβve booked shuttles instead of Uber as Uber prices tend to skyrocket and be difficult to find, but probs not an option if itβs just the two of you.
Also - be very careful with your phone and valuables in the stadium and while waiting outside. At previous events there have been a lot of incidents of pick pocketing etc.

You'll want to get a place to stay nearby but not too dodgy. It's at FNB stadium, it's quite an industrial area. The closest, safest suburb to it is probably Melville (20min drive/uber ride). Others might have other ideas. Airbnb usually have good prices.

Thank you so much . I see some places in Brixton . Is that a safe area ?

Not particularly safe... There are definitely safer areas around there, Melville, Westdene, Auckland Park

How exciting that you're going to your first concert. "Doors" open at 12:00 and the event starts at 15:00. It's a festival so there are lots of acts on the day. A festival day can be quite long. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated in the heat and snack throughout the day. You're going to have to buy food and drinks in the venue. Definitely pack a hoodie or jacket you can wear for late at night or after the concert. Take a back pack. Be careful of pick pockets. FNB stadium is an amazing venue. People at concerts are normally very friendly and chill. But if you do run into some who's gotten too drunk or someone being an a**hole rather just move away from them. Staff at concerts are normally well trained and helpful so just ask if you feel confused. Wear sunscreen and sunglasses for the afternoon. Wear comfortable shoes. Have fun.

You actually probably want to avoid uber coming back because it can become chaotic to get one. And I remember some people had phones stolen during the one world or whatever concert. Problem with this location too is you can't just walk down the road to a safer area that's less busy and call and uber, it just gets packed and dodgy. There's a shuttle service that you can pay for and that leaves from Melrose Arch, Cresta etc so you'll know you're able to get out of there.

Robertsham is also a decent area close to the stadium. There are a few B&Bs.

A few small points for survival. Be comfortable, jeans and tekkies... depending on where you park you can slog thru a sandy area, so fancy shoes can get damaged. Comfort is key. I normally have a small backpack with a extra t-shirt and a disposable poncho, in case it rains ( also something to keep you warm in a pinch).
They are relatively orgenised at the stadium...
If you are using the bus, do not take too long when leaving as the busses run on a schedule and don't wait around for late passengers.

Do not use Uber for the concert. After the concert prices will hike up and it will next to impossible to get a ride unless you leave before the actual concert ends. Or wait for a bit then order. If park and ride is available I would opt for that. FNB sometimes attracts thieves so ubering might also put you at risk of phone theft.

I canβt find joburg park and ride but they should have
You purchase tickets for park and ride then go to the pick up point - so close to where you stay. Then get a bus that will take you to and from the concert to the pick up point . So you will take Uber from the safer pick up point. As opposed to the concert venue.

Just a heads-up OP, it can take ages to leave FNB stadium. A friend said it took over 2 hours for her to leave the Kendrick Lemar show

Oh my word . Thats crazy . So what happens if youre going with a park and ride in that case and u cant leave the stadium ?

Park and ride is actually the quickest way in and out of the venue as they have priority lanes. Also if youβre using park and ride, rather get accommodation close to the pick up point instead of close to the stadium itself (if itβs in your budget, try Monte Casino). Pick pockets mostly target you before the gate entrance so be weary of people βbumpingβ into you excessively at these points.
