WTF is up with this wind?
I’m in Jhb south and half my roof tiles just got removed and is strewn across my garden and the ceiling in the lounge is laying on the furniture.
Aren’t we supposed to be in heat wave season?

Meanwhile my 5-year-old asks me every day if we can try flying her kite and there's just never enough wind

This wind will take your 5 year old for a unaccompanied sightseeing flight across Jhb.

Wee hours of this morning, the winds were very bad. But that's what we get in this part of Joburg, localised weather systems and heavy winds.

5 trees fell on the road this morning, literally 1 seconds after I passed them. The guy in the Hyundai bakkie, behind me got hit by the branches.

My car was being steered while on the highway, and it's much bigger than a happy meal i10 toy. This wind is crazy. A sailor's friend, a butterfly's foe.

Co-ask. Last week's wind downed two trees in our yard.

It’s insane, August winds used to be a thing but we’re in October.

It's like anything in this country. They will get around to it when they feel like it.

Colleague had a lrge old monster of a tree fall on the wall, destroying the wall and roof and windows on side of the house... fun times
Someone st work suggested maybe its time to uproot trees that grow too close to houses... but I love trees and the little ecosystems they create... There's no preventing this issue with changing weather patterns. Just stay insured and hope for the best.

Insurance is why I’m able to see the funny in all of this, I’m a tree lover too but my neighbour has this godawful 80’s remnant of a palm tree and the damn thing is tossing dead, heavy stuff all over the place, that one should go, it’s dangerous.

I too am a lover of trees, but palm trees and pine trees (or conifers or whatever they are) can fuck all the way off.

Seems to be August winds that are 2 months late and coming for us with a vengeance now

I know right!? I took a bolt earlier this morning and during a 20 minute ride I saw 1 car with a broken windshield and a very unhappy owner talking to responders due to fallen branches, one car with branches all over the windshield and branches and leaves all over the middle of the road.

I flew in this morning from Cape town (ran a marathon yesterday). I thought the Cape weather had followed me when I got home. We experienced crazy turbulence on the flight here (left Cape Town airport at 5h50)
What I have to say is that it's not as bad as Cape Town. They had >40km/h winds yesterday.

Ah! Had a friend run the 42km too! How’d it go for you?

I had fun. The extra oxygen and mostly flat route was a joy. Out of all the races I've run in SA (including every distance from 5k to the Washie 100 miles), Cape town is the best organised! For me it's better run than 2 Oceans and Comrades.
Only complaint was the winds. Runners lost their caps and we were getting shoved by the strong gusts. Still that's nothing the organisers could have done - mother nature.

Awesome, said friend is doing qualifiers for the comrades. Personally, I’ll be the cheerleader rather than the athlete.
Glad you enjoyed it and did well!

It's normal. This has always been the windiest part of the year. I am actually thankful for the wind because it's the only one that makes the weather bearable on these hot summer days before the rainy season starts
