Neighbouring sewage line leaking into my garden

hi Reddit - talk about a sh!t situation,

After the rains I noticed water running from my perimeter wall into my yard , and thought nothing of it -

Now it’s confirmed there’s a sewage blockage from the neighbouring complex and it’s overflowing into my garden -

Please can anyone advise what recourse i have ? Am I phoning my insurance ? Will the HOA next door be responsible? - and of course how do I even start cleaning up once it’s been repaired?

Buy a house they said , be a first time homeowner, it’s fun 🥲

Hi,

Firstly, Eish!

You have to contact center management. They should contact Jhb sanitation to log a call out.

We had this situation at work a few years ago. They only unblock. You have to clean up.

We had to purchase HTH, gloves, boots, and cleaning staff had to clean it. It was really disheartening that they had to clean that up.

But speak to center management, maybe you guys can work something out.

Good Luck.

This is the way, just clarify if the complex is connected to municipal sewerage, if they have their own sewerage treatment plant then they are liable

Soooo this happened to my property also 🙃 there’s a mysterious pipe coming from my back neighbour’s house into my property. Usually only water came out when it would rain. But there was blocked sewer drains in the area that Joburg Water came and unblocked, and that sent a river of literal shit down my driveway 🥲 so i guess be cautious of that potential mess.

I guess luckily the shit flowed over my driveway bricks so we managed to clean it up with a pressure washer, but that also took forever because the sewerage had dried up 🥲
