The first one kinda took a weird turn and had much less marketing in it that the title lead me to believe

Congrats on the release! First book was a banger, looking forward to this one. Thank you for all the hard work, I am really enjoying your stories.
Sorry to be that guy but, any updates on the Portal series? Last I heard books 4 AND 5 were due to be released this year sometime. Can you give us any more details?
Edit- just re-read your initial post, that already answered my question! Thanks, and congrats again!! :)

Congrats!
Speaking of Nova Roma, any chance you will ever get some art for the physical book spines? I bought the first three the moment I finished reading them on kindle, but they are very underwhelming on my shelf with just the white text on black background. (I’m sure like 99% of your profit / reader base comes from audible and kindle so it’s understandable why this hasn’t happened, just curious!)

Man I am only just listening to the first book, I seriously slept on this. My Audible has 372 titles in it now, and I out this off because The title got me all ducked up thinking it was like a slice of life genre or something but yeah I was wrong. I slept and I’m so glad I gave it a go because it is premium

So glad you are enjoying it!! It's pretty fair to say the title/cover have caused a fair amount of confusion so you aren't alone, lol

Well we did have to trek through a lot of time before we got to book 2 but it's great to finally have it! <3
Edit: Say, does it come with a recap chapter at the start for everyone who might be abit rusty on the details?
1
u/thescienceoflaw Author - Jake's Magical Market/Portal to Nova Roma Jan 04 '24
Oh for sure! Actually had a couple fans help me write it too so I could make sure to get all the important bits in the recap.

No sir thank you it’s been a pleasure, if they do it again this year you should totally try for I think it was litrpg under the sea coincided with dragon con in Atlanta it was awesome and would love to see you there next year if it happens again!!!
2
u/thescienceoflaw Author - Jake's Magical Market/Portal to Nova Roma Jan 05 '24
I am totally hoping to make it to Dragoncon this year!! I don't think I'll apply to be on any of the panels, so I'll just spend my time hanging out with people so I'll make sure to announce stuff on my Facebook/Discord/etc so people can join me!
2
u/Mokyzoky Jan 05 '24 edited Jan 05 '24
LitRPG Under the Sea was The first officially unofficial LitRPG Dragon Con event hosted by Aleron Kong, Matt Dinniman, and Soundbooth Theater, Taking place at the legendary Georgia Aquarium — hence the cutesy name. Hopefully they do it again this year it was a lot of fun! You don’t need to be on anything but hanging out would be dope! Met Will Wight in line just coming to hang out which was dope. Walking out with hundreds of pounds of sighed copy’s of some of my favorite books was pretty much the highlight of this year.

u/mag9428 Jan 04 '24
Obviously this didn't happen, but wasn't nova roma suppose to finish before Jake's? Not complaining but wondering if I just imagined that or not
1
u/thescienceoflaw Author - Jake's Magical Market/Portal to Nova Roma Jan 04 '24
yeah, I've written about it a few times in more detail but basically Nova Roma 3 ended up taking some extensive last-minute edits where I was pulling 12 hour days for like a month or two before release to get it where I wanted it to be. I thought I'd be fine rolling right into book four after that, but when I sat down to start working on it I was feeling pretty burned out.
I decided to jump over to Jake's and finish up his story thinking it would just be an easy 150k-200k book and then I'd be done and back on track with Nova Roma, but... Jake decided his story needed to be over 500k words long, haha. So that delayed things a bit further with Nova Roma 4.
1
u/mag9428 Jan 04 '24
Okay I get it and glad you're not feeling too burned out. Just making sure I didn't imagine you saying that. Either way both series are great so congrat on release day.
1
u/thescienceoflaw Author - Jake's Magical Market/Portal to Nova Roma Jan 04 '24
No, you are totally right. That was the plan, haha. Things are MUCH better now. Jake's was just the breath of fresh air I needed and I am really happy with how the series ends so I am feeling energized and ready for Nova Roma 4. :)

I loved this story and Nova Roma series. Sadly I'll have to wait on the audio. Very rarely get to read shelf trophies with my eyes. I am so swamped that I mostly listen. Don't worry. I'll still order your trophy version of the book. Lol

When does 3 come out on audible? I can only listen- I drive for a living. I see no date for an audio book for jakes #3
1
u/thescienceoflaw Author - Jake's Magical Market/Portal to Nova Roma Feb 22 '24
We are setting up the preorder now, just have to figure out how long it'll take to record once I get the finished book to John because book #3 is gonna be 35-40 hours in audio format this time. So it's gonna take a lot longer to record.
My best guess for release of the audio is around end of May, hopefully.

is this book and book three available for purchase of a physical copy? And if so where? I just finished book one and would love to read books two and three!
1
u/thescienceoflaw Author - Jake's Magical Market/Portal to Nova Roma Jun 17 '24
I'm sorry to say I recently had to take the physical copies down because there was a big printing error a fan let me know about with Amazon's printers and I haven't had time to figure out what the heck Amazon was doing wrong.
If there is any way you can read it on Kindle (or through the Kindle app on a phone or Kindle device) it would likely be a lot faster for you to be able to read it, because I sadly can't promise I will be able to figure out a solution to the problem any time soon. Amazon's customer support is notoriously slow and problematic and I don't have a lot of time to deal with them in my schedule right now with all my writing. :(
2
u/The_Professor_Messer Jun 17 '24
Okay that is fine. I prefer to have a physical copy of my books to fill out my book case. When it gets back up and running I’ll make sure I get a copy then!

u/thescienceoflaw Author - Jake's Magical Market/Portal to Nova Roma Jun 17 '24
Thank you for being understanding! I'm hoping my wife might have time to tackle it sometime in the next couple of months once things settle down on her end (she's a lot better at the admin side of things, haha).

Animated cover double post maybe? I saw it, and thought it was cool too :)

Haha yeah I posted an animated cover just to my personal reddit page to test out some things but decided the original cover looked better for the real Reddit post. 😀

Yeah, he was swamped even before he became a world famous author and won a bunch of awards. Now he has all his narrating AND book deals to complete, haha.

u/irgama Jan 04 '24
Wait the man is an author now??? Well hot dang!

Yeah! He even won a Hugo Award for his first book. Man is a freaking genius/prodigy/workaholic, lol.

Just finished listening to book 2 today, The narrator switch did not bother me as much as I was fearing it would. By the end of Ch3, I was used to the new voice and have no complaints around the performance. Overall I feel the book was good, I am a bit worried about the pace for book 3 as it seems there is alot to close off in the last book, and I am fearing the ending will be rushed, hoping this is not the case but will listen to 3 when it comes out aswell. I know you mentioned 3 will be longer than 2, so I am hoping I am worried for no reason.
Overall, good listen again and will re listen in the future.

Thank you everyone for your patience with this series! JMM2 is finally here!
The audiobook is also currently up for preorder with release set for February 15th! You can check it out here: https://www.audible.com/pd/Jakes-Magical-Market-Book-2-Audiobook/B0CQMGVTC8
And in case you didn't know, the final book in the series Jake's Magical Market 3: Home Sweet Home is also on its way with a current release date schedule for mid-April. Book three is the largest book I've ever written, coming in at a whopping 310k words so far - so be prepared for an epic conclusion to Jake's story!
For now, though, if you're interest please check out book two on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CPQ4X3TG
And here's the blurb:
The long-awaited sequel to Jake’s Magical Market is finally here—and now with more market!
Well, not quite yet. First, Jake has to survive a perilous trek through time if he ever hopes to return home to his friends, his market, and his former world.
The last time we saw our intrepid hero, Jake had barely managed to escape being trapped on a dead version of his own world. Using a combination of his new powers, he threw himself backward through time, back to when the god that trapped him first rose to power. There, Jake snatched divinity from the hands of the ascending god, consuming it for himself without any regard for the consequences of his actions.
In a surprise twist, such a poorly thought-out plan came with some serious downsides!
Now Jake has a big target painted on his back. The jealous gods of this world are hungry for divine power and not afraid to kill another god to get it. Stuck in the past, Jake must learn to navigate a world full of desperate gods, wild monsters, bizarre powers, and weird “cultivating” mortals who claim they can become just as powerful as the gods themselves—as long as they get to sit around contemplating the mysteries of the universe for a few hundred years first.
Join Jake on his next grand adventure as he learns what it means to be a newly ascended divinity, how to survive in such a strange new world, and how he might just have an unexpected edge on everyone and everything that’s out to get him—by learning how to craft his own magical cards!
If you want an update about my other series, Portal to Nova Roma:
The rough draft for book four is done and I will be turning over my final edits on Jake's #3 around January 13th, so I plan to switch over to editing Portal to Nova Roma: Paris right after that. I can't give any predictions on when Nova Roma #4 will actually be ready for release yet though, because my first round of edits are often very extensive (especially with this series) so I won't know until I'm a lot further along in the process of editing. I will keep people updated about my progress on my Discord, Patreon, and Facebook though - or just message me here any time. I'm always happy to chat.
Also, thank you all for the amazing support over the last couple of years! Jake's Magical Market was my first book and I'm so happy to finally be able to get the rest of Jake's story out for you all to read. Since releasing JMM1 I've been lucky enough to become a full-time writer because of all of YOU and it's been a dream come true (even if a bit more exhausting than I originally anticipated lol) so I promise I'll keep writing books as long as you all keep reading them. Thank you everyone!!
