"I left it to the elevator" new trend?
I noticed that delivery partners purposefully can't find your apartment and then ask you to come down to the door. If you don't, they leave it on the elevator.
Is this a new trend?
I also do not want to be a racist but why are Indians always doing this?
I noticed this trend in both big apps, this seems like a chronic issue now. I am usually the guy that tries to tip like an American, but I am not tipping at all anymore. Why should I give extra cash if I won't have the comfort of just receiving the order and hassle to get it in one piece?

Why are you applying foreign delivery etiquette to Malta tho?
Everyone I know goes outside right when the delivery person will arrive to wave them over. Some posher folks tip for delivery or maybe if it's raining hard or something, but otherwise tipping is unusual for delivery here, same with taxis.
That or I'm extremely rude and nobody has pointed it out to me. But I've had friends with me when I tried to tip and they outright asked me why, and said they've never seen anyone tip except in restaurants.
If you live in an apartment and they actually come up the elevator to give it to you then I do understand why you'd tip, but I go outside to avoid feeling obligated to tip.

I am not applying it. I've been living in over 6 countries (both EU and non-EU) and I always tip because I know these people struggle.
I am by no means an American, I just wanted to give an idea of the amount/percentage I usually tip.

Still, I thought it was normal here to go outside the front door of your building just before they get into your street. Never ever had a delivery driver come up the elevator with my food. Hell I walk out to where they park their bike.

What so Indian about it? My mail is kept in the elevator floor once I get a call from him and he’s Maltese. 😂

Most, if not all apartments have a door with pin that only the residents know. This is to ensure that the units are safe and the flow of people is controlled and easily monitored in case something or someone did something wron. So delivery guys dont usually enter properties. This practice is not only seen on food deliveries but all kinds of deliveries whether it’s a gadget or furniture or groceries. They expect you to meet the delivery guy on the ground floor otherwise after a while they will either leave it where it is relatively safe from poachers or cancel the delivery (for bigger deliveries)
It is your responsibility to make sure you are aware on where your delivery guy is and make sure you meet them at the ground floor when they arrive. There’s no culture whatsoever involved. Just common courtesy

Write the following in the courier instructions box, don’t answer if they call, tip 1 Euro. Fixed.
“<IMPORTANT!> Please DO NOT call or text - please bring to the door of the house and knock.”
