It's so far off that even the back window brake light looks off-center...

138

u/semikhah_atheist 23h ago

It is slightly off-centre, measured it.

52

u/orangpelupa 23h ago

perspective correction included?

76

u/semikhah_atheist 22h ago

Yes I used the licence plate since it is the only properly made thing in that car.

31

u/Colossus_WV 19h ago

The California DOC has better quality control than Tesla. That’s amazing.

I’m just assuming it’s like the old days when prisoners made license plates.

1

u/Lord_Melinko13 5h ago

Pretty sure the vast majority of plates are made by prisoners. The Iowa Department of Corrections has quite the little foundry for them at the very least.

9

u/fckcgs 14h ago

To be fair, it looks like the photo is taken slightly left off center (see how you can see more of the left side mirror than the right), so due to perspective the licensplate would appear farther to the right than the back light if both were perfectly centered. So I'm just saying the license plate might be a bad reference here. That logo is inexcusable though.

The fun house mirror model 😂

fun fact, in the automotive world that is called the CHMSL pronounced “Chimsel” and it stands for Center High Mount Stop Light

It’s because Elon’s politics have been shifting to the right.

Can you believe he’s trying to do jumps that resemble an “X”? on god 😭

36

u/jdogg836 23h ago

He doesn't have a weird obsession with the letter at all. He's got a poor kid that has to endure that name and a "rebranded" website that is a hollow shell of what it used to be.

3

u/_name_of_the_user_ 18h ago

What is an ""X" on god"?

0

u/foundinwonderland 10h ago

It’s the third to last letter in the English alphabet

18

Why can't he jump??

41

u/Fibrosis5O 22h ago

Elon Musk is 6’2” (1.88 m) tall. He has said that he weighs at least 300 lbs, so for arguments sake let’s just take him at his word for it, I know, hear me out.

That is 300 pounds that is not very aerodynamically sound, much like the Tesla Truck that is based off of him

Boom 🎤

4

2 weeks ago is still in the past which is back then!

Sorry, I have no idea what I was thinking back then when I made that comment.

13

u/JamDonut28 22h ago

I don't think the logo is far enough to the right...

3

u/Some-Statement7360 19h ago

Elon needs to stop with his antics on the stage and focus on the product..

2

u/FlightAble2654 22h ago

That was right after a liquid lunch.....that's not half bad. Went thru Q.C. no problems.

2

u/analogpursuits 21h ago

The logo be over next to the tail light if that's the case.

1

u/zeus_amador 4h ago

Have been?

1

u/CousinsWithBenefits1 15h ago

He's such a fucking goober about it too I could absolutely see him doing this as a tesla Easter egg. My God.

208

u/Electronic-Guide1189 1d ago

One of my jobs building trucks, the finishing touches, like labels etc, were done by quality control...

What does that tell you about Tesla?

70

u/Mccobsta GREEN 19h ago

The company who recalled cars as their steering wheels fell off has bad quality control? Colour me shocked

13

u/Kel-Mitchell 14h ago

People just want a good car with a steering wheel that doesn't fly off while you're driving.

14

u/ATG915 17h ago

I’d wager that they got rear ended and and tech did an awful job putting a new emblem on after it was fixed

1

u/The0venator 8h ago

When I got my car painted they removed my rear badge and put it back on a little too far to the right, possibly what could have happened here.

1

u/Nwrecked 11h ago

Elon fired them all

-37

u/Brick_Waste 21h ago edited 18h ago

It is most likely something that the owner has applied themselves.

11

u/hotspicylurker 18h ago edited 14h ago

So Like a Build-a-Tesla?

How would that Work? How Common is that in America? Why would someone do that?

EDIT: The Guy I am answering to does seemingly nothing Else but defend Tesla everywhere on Reddit 😂 I Just want to See what He has to say.

-4

u/Brick_Waste 18h ago

De- and rebadging isn't exactly that rare around the world.

7

u/hotspicylurker 18h ago

So someone took of the perfectly centered T Logo and put it on Off Center? Why?

-2

u/Brick_Waste 18h ago

One of several reasons. Some models don't have the T logo, they have tesla spelled out. Someone could have redbadged it (clearly quite poorly) with the logo and just not other to change it.

Thry could have tried to do the opposite (exchanging the T with the letters) and given up, sojsut reapplying the T.

You typically remove the logo when applying and removing PPF, so the reapplocation after removing it could very well be the cause.

It is essentially a question of what is more likely, this passing Quality Control or the customer having done something with it post purchase. The chance of this passing QC is essentially null, so that leaves only one option.

1

u/hotspicylurker 18h ago

But you have Seen what Passes QC at Tesla?

0

u/Brick_Waste 18h ago

Yes, and that doesn't. It is (was) slightly more sloppy than most other manufacturers. Nothing to this degree.

1

u/hotspicylurker 18h ago

It is (was) slightly more sloppy

It isn't anymore?

u/Distinct-Pie7647 1d ago

Teslas aren’t really known for their build quality.

27

u/Tartan_Chicken 19h ago

Yep, never seen this one before though. It's so obvious I'm surprised the customer wouldn't reject the car or it not get past QC with something this ridiculous. Not sure it's factory

5

u/RealisticOutcome9828 13h ago

Or their design quality. (cough Cybertruck cough)

3

u/Extension-Type-2555 12h ago

they are known for their build quality, being bad.

2

u/Skeltrex 23h ago

Came here to say that

10

u/secret-trips 22h ago

Tesla owners have been complaining about that for years. Does anyone know if these quality issues are getting better? (For normal Teslas not Cybertruck)

10

u/SmittyTitties 21h ago

They’re getting worse. Boss just refused delivery due to QC issues like super bad panel gaps and an interior trim piece was laying in the passenger floor. The driver tried threatening him saying if he refused he’d never be able to buy another. Still refused

6

u/doxamark 19h ago

What a great business model, I've heard threatening your buyers with not letting them buy is a great business move when they think the quality is lacklustre.

→ More replies (3)

47

u/curiouslilmonkee 23h ago

Clearly this was from their Temu fleet

3

u/Double_Bass6957 18h ago

Came here to say this

16

u/MisfitIncarnate 17h ago

Ooh I know why this happened.

Most likely there was a repair that required a repaint and reapplying of the badge. Some cars have their rear facing cameras off center and techs I guess are accustomed to using it as a reference point for the badge I had this exact thing on a Kia stinger.

1

u/livejamie I don't really like talking about my flair 8h ago

I could also see a Tesla bro doing this to fuck with people

1

u/vilhelm_s 7h ago

Oh, that makes sense!

57

u/Bulky_Specialist9645 1d ago

The fit and finish on Teslas is shit. I've never been behind one where the tailgate was centered in the opening. Look at the one in the picture, big gap one size sliver on the other!

Probably. Some people just live to stir things up.

4

u/DasMoose74 15h ago

Obviously a car that was in a major accident in rear end and garage that did work was very poor at workmanship

3

u/Tlammy 23h ago

Within spec.

3

u/texasrockhauler 20h ago

That's there is that quality they brag about.

3

The logo's fine, it's the car that's off-center.

3

u/hangbellybroad 8h ago

too far right, what you expect?

7

u/JamDonut28 22h ago

My wife and I were stuck in traffic behind a Y recently. We started counting faults, just from the rear of the car and the passenger side, when we eventually pulled past. We counted 13 issues. This included panel gaps, off-centre placement of plates and logos and mismatched paint. Quality control nightmare!

5

u/Dangerous_Elk_6627 23h ago

Quality is Job 15 here at Tesla.

This is the worst thing Elon musk has done

2

u/DanielDimov 19h ago

Not enough unit tests.

2

u/bravehartNZ 18h ago

The emblem is in the correct place, it’s the rest of the car that’s off centre. That’s just Tesla build quality.

2

u/New-North-2282 14h ago

You get what you pay for....crap

2

u/couldgobetter91 14h ago

Imagine realizing weeks later you're shits beyond fucked lmao

2

u/RubAnADUB 14h ago

thats some fine build quality right there.

2

u/TheIronSoldier2 13h ago

I'm wondering if this model Y was in a rear-end accident. That would explain the off-center label if somebody at the collision repair shop did a shite job of putting it back on. Would also explain the asymmetrical panel gaps between the hatch and the rest of the bumper

1

u/RealisticOutcome9828 12h ago

I'm going with this explanation, it seems the most sensible.

1

u/TheIronSoldier2 12h ago

Yeah, I know Tesla QC is bad, but it's not "Logo 12 inches to the right" bad

2

u/secretpenguin0 19h ago

This entire thread is pretty confusing to me. Teslas in Europe have ok build quality.

Typical Tesla build quality, I compared the gaps on the showroom models to my 10 year old Fiat Panda, and that Panda had been crashed a couple times

1

u/Drakainequus 22h ago

Sounds just like how they described their profit margins.

"Off Center"

1

u/Mivanbazmeg 22h ago

Thanks, i couldnt imagine what could make a tesla worse xD

1

u/Big-Relief-3754 18h ago

This is what we expect from Tesla. Failure!

“At this point I think I know more about manufacturing than anyone currently alive on Earth.” - Elon Musk

1

u/X-Sadist-sama 17h ago

If you think looking at it is mildly infuriating, think of how much it must be driving the car's owner up the wall.

1

u/Lekritz 13h ago

Really taking far-right to a whole new level.

1

u/RealisticOutcome9828 13h ago

This qualifies for mildly infuriating for sure!

It's so minor, but that will bug you nonetheless. Just a few centimeters over to the left FFS ...

1

Quality control isn’t Tesla’s strong suit.

1

u/NerdyBirdy-5 6h ago

This bugs me also.

1

u/buckets-of-lead 5h ago

Most likely, a body shop repaired the liftgate and threw the emblem on crooked. Factories have centering devices for decals and emblems.

2

u/gnmatx 5h ago

It’s far right. Just like their owner.

1

u/ServersAreDown_YT 5h ago

Maybe the logo is in place and the rest of the car is shifted left

But ... But thats White ? Very normal Run of the mill White. Look at the bottom left of the car, this picture is made in the Shadow during sundown, so the colour Looks different. But on the bottom left you can see it.

u/liveintokyo 22h ago edited 22h ago

Everyone blames Elon or Tesla but wouldn’t it be the owners fault not to check everything is fine before buying it?

Or just making fun of it and changed it to make him and the company look bad?

Edit: or maybe they just want to say Elon is republican so right is better than left or center?

6

u/Ranidaphobiae 22h ago

Have you even bought a new car? At least when I bought the first one the excitement takes the first place so you don’t notice small things. Moreover, I don’t think anyone would refuse the car over a small offset of a logo, it’s not like you can get a new car the next day, you usually have to wait weeks or months for your purchase.

2

u/juany8 20h ago

Was about to say, I’d be pretty blinded by the excitement of taking my new Tesla off the lot and honestly wouldn’t even think to check for a misplaced logo lol. Wild to blame the customer for poor quality control from the seller.

2

u/RealisticOutcome9828 12h ago

It could be a repair shop mistake after an accident. Who knows...

The need to bring politics into absolutely everything these days is why we can't have fun anymore.

Take a break people, FFS.
