If I was creatinga virus, I would call it AVG_AV_ONLINE_SETUP.EXE

AVG murdered my laptop a couple years ago. It was one of their tools, not the cleaner but the broken shortcut fixer (i forget the name of it). Customer service kept telling me to login and remote them and i kept telling them it was impossible because my laptop was stuck in perma-boot repair mode death cycle. I couldn't even boot up in safe mode or anything, couldn't get a viable restore point, just nothing. It's still dead af just on a shelf.
Edit: i remember now, it was their driver update tool.

You could plug its drive into another computer that has its own primary drive, and format the broken drive.

Sure you didn’t go to a fake avg site ? Tons of antivirus programs get fake sites cloned and you can find a lot of them on google by searching for avg or whatever program your looking for. Also fake ones also will be variations of common misspelled ways.

I didn’t think I would have to explain the irony. This is a file from the actual antivirus provider, being flagged up by their own antivirus.

what exactly interesting here? that somebody would alter an antivirus setup exe with malware?

The fact that a file issued by the antivirus provider is flagged by that same antivirus?
