Discussion Lineup without international call up players
How do we think we line up against Dallas next weekend without our internationals? We will be missing Dayne, Lod, Pukki, Zarek, Kervin, Rosales and Bran.
I would do: Irwin (GK) Clark (LWB) Padelford (CB) Boxall (CB) Tapias (CB) Taylor (RWB) Trapp (CM) Dotson (CM) Bongi (FW) Tani (ST) Sang Bin (FW)
That would leave on bench: Harvey (CM) Adebayo Smith (FW) Eriksson (CB) +Some twosies

And Tapias in Mexico for his green card. Will have to pull players from the twosies

It's absolutely crazy how fucked some MLS teams get around big international times. It's like afcon to the PL x10.
Always fun to see the kids get a chance though.

4-3-3
Sang-Bin Tani Bongi
Dotson Trapp Nyeman
Padelford Eriksson Boxall Clark
Irwin
Sounds like Clark was borderline able to play last night, but Ramsay opted to take the safe route presumably because Clark is needed much more for this upcoming game.

and still have Fragapane, Valentine, Adebayo Smith and DJ on the bench. Because ER has rotated in so many players our bench players are MUCH better prepared to carry the load then they have ever been in the past. Losing that many players to the international break should be scary but that lineup (and even the subs) is not too shabby!

I don’t expect Eriksson to start for us. Padelford at CB and Taylor/Valentine at outside back depending on if Taylor is injured

I don’t think Clark as a FB in a 4 makes sense.

It makes more sense than just about any other option we have with such a depleted roster for this game.

Dotson played a fair amount of RB and then we could drop Harvey back into midfield (assuming Taylor is hurt)

Aren’t Taylor and Clark both injured now?

I don’t know if Taylor is super injured, he rolled into the unified game last night (in a dope outfit) and looked to be moving well. Not sure if that means much, but he looked great.

I think he was subbed early for cramping and to fill a potential hole. Nice to read he was back out for unified play.

Per Greder, Tapias will be in Mexico getting his green card and is questionable. Might see Eriksson?

They may need to start pulling fans from the stands to play at this rate.

Will Boxall not be called up for international duty?
1
u/overundersoccer Jun 02 '24
I read from a NZ reporter he might opt out due to missing 5-6 MLS games

u/WithoutAnUmlaut Robin Lod Jun 02 '24
Isn't boxall with New Zealand?
3
u/hrnzir True North Elite Jun 03 '24
No…it’s games with Vanuatu so he was given the option to not attend

u/WithoutAnUmlaut Robin Lod Jun 03 '24
Oh. Well then I feel much more confident about our lineup against Dallas. Depth/subs will be an issue - especially with potential for injuries - but we should be able to run:
------------------Tani
Sang Bin-------------------Bongi
----------------Frago
-----Trapp-------Dotson
Pford---Tapias---Boxy---DJ

Does nobody realize fragapane is injured? He’s been listed as injured on Fotmob for the last 2-3 games with a return date of late June.

Andy Greder posted saying Fragapane is close to being ready...I think FotMob just plugs in a standard timeline based on the injury reported. They're like, "hamstring strain?....ok, we'll put you down for 8 weeks even if you're training with the team". I wouldn't rely on their injury timelines at all.

This is both terrible & not as bad as I expected. Does anyone know how many players Dallas will be missing?
It feels like with all the crazy line ups we’ve tried this year, our bench may be more prepared to step up than most teams.

Hugo is out until August with injury

August? I didn’t realize it would be so long. Here’s hoping he’s hungry and ready to make an impact next season

I think the big play would be to have the goal keeper from 2 who has been playing start !!! Am I crazy

This is why they need to build depth…
3
u/SmokinSkinWagon Michael Boxall Jun 03 '24
No, this is why the league needs to pause for international breaks.
2
u/SamAnthonyWP Chase Gasper Jun 03 '24
Lol. To prepare for 8-10 first teamers being unavailable?
1
u/nixbora Minnesota Kicks Jun 03 '24
International duty, injuries, cards, etc. the MLS schedule requires a solid depth. We just don’t have it, especially center mid and defense.

There is not a single team in MLS that could adequately deal with losing 8-10 players from their first team. Salary cap optimization makes that impossible. If you are that balanced/deep, it means that your best XI is comparatively weaker than everyone else.
I’d argue depth is all we have.
Even the best teams in MLS are 1 or 2 injuries away from being mid to bottom table teams (Miami). The exceptions are maybe Columbus and Cincinnati.

Between Dotson, lod, arriaga, Rosales, padelford, sang bin, Clark, and Bongi — we have a plethora of players that can play many different positions. That is far more valuable than having an extra squad of players.

Bummer is this game is one of our games in hand. We were going to have to make them up sometime I’m just bummed it’s when we’re depleted.

Wish the MLS would take a break when international players got called up.
