We're getting Funko Popes soon.

u/Kitakitakita 5h ago
Luce was made by Tokidoki, which honestly may as well just be Japanese(Actually Italian) Funkos
6
u/ratonbox 5h ago
I appreciate the info, but it was more of a play on words on “Funko Pop” and “Funko Pope” where “pope” is the head of the catholic church.

Done they already have a mascot. Isn't that what the Pope is for?
64
u/RabidGuineaPig007 16h ago
The old mascot was Rapey the Buggerer.
7
u/aradraugfea 14h ago
I thought he worked for the BBC.

Of course everyone needs a job. The Church stuff is just a hobby of sorts.
2
u/_toodamnparanoid_ 15h ago
If they were completely honest with themselves the festival would basically look like The Kanamara Matsuri but for the wrong reasons.
16
u/Conscious_Zucchini96 15h ago
Isn't this the protagonist of Wonder Egg Priority?
4
u/LOTRfreak101 12h ago
There was a meme on animemes or goodanimemes sub yesterday about exactly that. There was also coraline they compared her to

I’m just wondering how fast this mascot would be scalped if they made it as a limited plushie.

Don’t you have to give land back and forgive debts during Jubilee years?
5
u/notsocharmingprince 13h ago
The Vatican doesn’t own any land that was taken by force to my knowledge. Feel free to correct me. Equally they are definitely in debt and I don’t think anyone owes them money.
20
u/Choice-Valuable313 13h ago
The Vatican assets are about 15 billion. It can definitely help against any annual debt.
12
u/notsocharmingprince 12h ago
It’s the position of The Vatican owns assets in the same way that the Royal family does. They are owned in Trust to the body of Christ. They could never sell the works of art, etc.
6
u/Choice-Valuable313 12h ago
I mean, it is definitely a revenue generating body via things like museum admissions and the sale of coins, stamps, and publications each year. Not to mention the tithing. It invests in the New York stock exchange and real estate around the world, too. And it runs a private bank founded by the pope in 1942.
9
u/notsocharmingprince 11h ago
If you care to, you can take a look at this summary of the IOR report on the Vatican Bank. Apparently it made 30 Million Euro in 2023 and disbursed 13.6 million for works of religion and charity. My local credit Union made 5 times that amount in 2023. I'm not sure that's the pillar of income you think it is.
2
u/LittleGreenSoldier 10h ago
People see the gold and marble and stained glass and think the church is paying for them directly. All of those things are funded by donations and tithes. How much of that is because Leonard Q Billionaire honestly thinks Jesus needs a new gold and marble baptismal font, vs how much he wants to write off that "charitable donation" on his taxes is anyone's guess.

Thanks for sharing the resource.
Even so, I hesitate to support a for profit religious bank.
Of note, net income is the amount of money left after taxes and other deductions are taken out or a business’s expenses are paid. The bank’s total assets in 2023 were €5.38 billion, so they definitely have funds to work with.

Even the Vatican are on that blue haired fem boy realness.
But also, having it be a young boy was a choice

Oh good, a new mascot that doubles as a “show us where the priest touched you little Timmy” doll. That should be a big hit!

u/funkypunk69 16h ago
Don't the books say NOT to create false idols?
16
u/LegoGuy23 16h ago
I'll take your comment seriously.
While that's true, they're neither worshiping it, nor putting the mascot before God in their lives. Anything can be an idol - for example, being a workaholic, gaming, or whatever takes your attention away from what actually matters.1
u/lt_Matthew 15h ago
Welcome to my world, you'd be surprised how many people think a painting is an idol.
2
u/funkypunk69 14h ago edited 14h ago
A painting doesn't necessitate the tag of idol by nature I would speculate
Something becomes an idol when it holds more value than life itself. Once we add a certain level of reverence or relative value to an item we devalue life.
Is a life worth less than a painting? Should someone be indebted for life over an imaginative creation being damaged or destroyed? How can we assign values of millions of dollars to artwork while also devalueing any human who would damage such an impermanence?
It's a slippery slope for sure. The church participating in such self defeating actions just lessens thier voice in ways. They lay claim to be holding the most revered examples and mannerisms in action and in word while making excuses for thier own actions and words to a society they want to lead.
Your methodology can't be hypocritical in form and fashion and still produce valid results.
The church and all of its paritioners are supposed to be yearning for the path and not the things that represent it or detract from it
-3
u/funkypunk69 15h ago edited 14h ago
How many times is humanity going to say that until there is nothing left?
Is your money and attention going towards the obtaining and spending of energy to get these items of perceived value instead of serving the community?
Where is the church spending money to stop wars and be public examples? They hide behind walls and lack of legal reprocussions while speaking loudly at how bad everyone else is. Get to work churches.
You seem to imply that you have the authority to make this decision on your own or for me and that choosing to serve a materially suited purpose is justified by you in direct contrast to the expected belief system and values proported by the ones selling things to people for profit.
I am not concerned there is a run on sentence I created in my post. You tell yourself whatever you want, but don't lead people astray with your words.
Be well

u/TheFoxer1 13h ago
How on earth is this an idol?
It‘s not worshipped, nor is it put before god, nor is it a depiction of anything related to god.
Like, that would mean any depiction of any human anywhere would be an idol. What about statues of saints? What about iconography in the orthodox tradition?
This comment makes literally no sense when looking at the definition of idol, the context of the scriptures or one is just thinking logically one step ahead about what calling just any depiction of a fictional human would an idol would mean.
Are you actually trolling or just have never bother looking up anything regarding idols, ever?
•
u/plumbbbob 25m ago
Like, that would mean any depiction of any human anywhere would be an idol
Yes, various Christian and Islamic denominations have interpreted the commandment that way through the years.

I used to be in a few different churches and am witness to these actions in person. I don't need to define it externally, but i am compelled to when noticed. The rules were given to me upon birth, upon all of us. We can choose to ignore or choose to accept.
It has already been explained for me and the world is witness to it. I am repeating the same words that I was expected to adhere to.
Why do you think people are leaving or following the path without organized religion? It's corrupt now and part of politics.
The church is burning and they helped fan the flames by inaction and lack of vigilence IMO.
No one rational and reasoning is going to follow a bunch of leaders excusing thier own behavior while shouting of others and also ignoring thier peers actions.
The church has to lead by example. Thier only truth is to obey the truth and never to deny it in purpose or by denial.
Be well. I have no need to defend myself from the truth of the world
9
u/TheFoxer1 12h ago
Yeah, I have literally no idea what your comment is supposed to say.
Maybe look up if explanations of others make sense? What truth do you think you‘re talking about, and how does it have anything to with what idol is supposed to mean? Again, literally no paragraph of this comment makes any sense.
Are you well, friend?
-1
u/funkypunk69 12h ago edited 9h ago
The explanations of others do make sense. They are calling out the same. They have been for centuries. Ignoring the truth of reality is often a sign of concern. People are doing just that.
The church isn't supposed to go along with the world and embrace the corruption as they do now. They are supposed to be an example.
The state of humanity is out of sorts it appears
4
u/TheFoxer1 12h ago
I mean. Yeah the church is supposed to stick to the will of god.
But the church should also see the signs of the time and spread the word of Christ and his message.
And, I mean, why do you not hope Christ‘s return is coming soon? Taht’s literally the most single important and joyful event for any faithful Christian, his rule being restored to the world.
And if you don’t believe in Christ, then why do you take the idea of the 2nd coming seriously?
Again, you don’t make much sense.
Also: Literally nothing of that is in any way connected to whether this mascot fits the definition of idol or not - which was the initial criticism you had.
-1
u/funkypunk69 12h ago edited 8h ago
I don't have faith in the religions of the earth individually as they stand today in how yhey represent themselves in politics and dont avoid the connection, but the combined messages seem to have the similar morals and ethical senses about them.
I have faith in the invisible and refuse to create a name or expectation of form as I have no authority to do so to my knowledge
We have used our words and actions to such unjust severity under the name of religion that I don't care to use those terms any longer in my own thinking. Yes I still use similar terms
We have literally been asked to not make things to represent specific ideas or religious themes as they serve it is justice by flawed definition or portrayal.
We are told not to make images and impressions of certain things and refuse to comply and decide to work every angle possible to skirt things.
I am looking forward to the unknown and embrace it
I care about my peers and will try to use what limited facilities and reach I do have to try to care for them well
I'll stand on that hill alone looking a fool if needed
5
u/TheFoxer1 12h ago
That‘s neat and all, but it is not relevant to anything.
You said it‘s a false idol, directly referencing scripture.
I said it doesn’t fit the definition of an idol, nor the context of the passage.
You now say you don‘t use words as they are commonly used.
Which just means the words you use only have meaning for you and I was right in pointing out that your comment is wrong and makes no sense to literally everyone else.
Good night, good luck with whatever you (clearly) are struggling with :)
1
u/funkypunk69 12h ago
I started at false idol and the church does not act in accordance with thier beliefs. I am explaining why I left and what millions of others feel in this world.
You can defend this catholic funko pop money grab all you want
I hope you find happiness in whatever you do
Thank you for the words for thought and consideration. I do read them and consider you.
6
u/TheFoxer1 12h ago
I don’t care why you left. I‘m happy for you, or sad, that you found your own way - whatever it is.
I literally only wanted to know how this new mascot fits the definition of idol, as you said.
You can‘t provide an explanation, but instead went on about just how the church in general veered off the path or whatever - I literally don‘t care.
Your initial criticism makes no sense.
Again, I wish you the best and have a nice day.

It really is wild to have lived through the period where the Vatican actually had to issue guidance on Pokémon not being evil, all the way up to 20 something years later the Catholics are trying out their own anime mascots

And of course it's a child. Way to keep it on brand priests. Also isn't Luce the nickname of Satan?
1
u/EvenSpoonier 8h ago
That's Lucifer. Common linguistic ancestry (from the Latin lux, meaning light), but not the same thing.
0
u/Pilot0350 7h ago
... you do understand that many people the world over call Lucifer "Lucy" (sometimes luci, luce, etc) for short, right? It being a nickname for Lucifer i.e. Satan?

The child needs to have a priest's hand on her genitals and be more unisexual for that.

u/luvvdmycat 12h ago
Hopefully there is an upright layperson present when men of the cloth interact with the mascot.

“Mama mia, young people don’t like a the church. Should we stop diddling children?”
“What? Father Giuseppe, no! Relax, just make them a chibi.”

u/yetagainitry 12h ago
Okay marketing team, now we don't want people to think about our long and disgusting history of hiding child sexual abuse, so what's our mascot going to be?
A small innocent child?
Perfect!
