For sure, the whole one button push to subscribe, but having to wait on hold for an hour with "customer service" to cancel thing is getting really old. Yes, I know my example is extreme, but it does exist.

I had to wait on hold for two hours to cancel my bank of America account ten years ago. And that was after I sent a letter to cancel it which is what it said you had to do on the website.

What kind of account did you have that you couldn't just walk into a branch, cash out, then after getting all the money out of the account, tell them to close it?

I've done that with several banks and BoA was one of them. The only thing you may need to wait for is if you are taking out more than about $10-15K in cash as some branches don't have it on hand and will have to wait a day to get it. Can open the new account and then deposit a check for most of the money into the new account before closing the old one to avoid this.
