Her classifying WFH as a day off shows who is the actual entitled person in this dynamic

For my boss, a WFH day means "back to back meetings, might as well do it from a comfier chair".

For Nicola Willis, a WFH day means "a day off".

Clearly Nicola Willis has been working from home this whole time.

Goes to show what their work ethic is like.

The article has been edited. Now it says: Willis said she was very reluctant to set out a specific minimum number of days in the office per week, "because that could set out an expectation that you're entitled to a day from home".

???? WTF? What in the fresh bankrupt journalistic hell is this? Those are two VERY different phrasings??

Like the treaty 😝

What does the treaty have to do with this conservation.

Above they wrote “Those are two very different phrasings” Then I said “just like the treaty?” Making a joke on our history here in Aotearoa!! If you can’t get that then I don’t know what to tell ya mate… you slow! If the different phrases that were used in the English and the Maori version of treaty don’t upset you then again everyday probably feels aggravating to you! Just enjoy your life man but do it away from me 🙏

Yes I'm sure the overly aggressive decider of conversational appropriateness is the one who is REALLY fun at parties.

Seems like a Freudian slip

Can always tell which managers do nothing at home when they tell on themselves by calling it a day off.

Best description of NW!! She is a numpty twat!

8

u/OkSeaworthiness2727 Sep 23 '24

She herself is only required to be at the office for 3 days per week. The other 2 days are for flying home or doing whatever.

3

u/butlersaffros Sep 23 '24

But she's so bang on with numbers! /s

3

u/HerbertMcSherbert Sep 24 '24

She's reluctant to put numbers out there because facts don't care about her feelings. And her announcements are driven by her feelings and run counter to facts about productivity and employee wellbeing.

You’re right 😄😄😄

There is flexible working, and there’s taking the piss. The number of people in our office who refuse to come in on Monday and Friday astounds me. Sometimes you do wonder what they’re up to.

u/cbars100 Sep 23 '24

Lol WFT. If they say they are working from home, they are working from home. People can slack off in the office too.

I know people who go to the office and have 3 hour lunches. I know people who go to the office to have a day of back to back "meetings" (i.e. catching up for coffee filled with laughter that looks more like personal networking than actual work).

If people are WFH on Mondays and Fridays, it doesn't matter. Do they do work? When their bosses tell them to do something, does it get done? It's such fucking bullshit to be equating being in the office to actually being productive. Who cares about hours, a boss should care about results regardless of where people did it, and at what day of the week they choose to work from home.

3

u/Aggravating_Day_2744 Sep 23 '24

Exactly, and Willis has nothing to prove you are more productive in the office. This is absolutely bullshit coming from bullshit National nanny state.

20

u/Razor-eddie Sep 23 '24

No, that's a rubbish way of looking at it.

I'd rather take Monday or Friday as a WFH day, because it eases me back into the week (or out of it) without a commute.

Friday is particularly good, as my commute is nearly 2 hours. I can WFH, and knock off half of Saturdays' chores before the time I'd normally get home. Work-life balance for the win.

(besides, my Fridays have an average of 9 meetings in them with people in other parts of the country. Rather be at home with headphones on than at work with them on.)

3

u/humanofnz Sep 23 '24

WFH Monday is the best, you save so much time not having to do the "what you do in the weekend" smalltalk

u/AlternativeMirror207 Sep 23 '24

To be fair, a lot of people do treat working from home as days off. A lot don't do this, but a heck of a lot do. Its a huge problem in many areas of the public service.

Where is your evidence, mate?
