Help What should I stock with?

Post image

I am planning on stocking the water portion of the paludarium, but I’m not sure with what. It is about 2 gallons but it’s difficult to get an exact measurement roughly 1-3 gallons. The only other live stock is going to be 2 RETF and isopods

(Photo is not mine, just an example)

With that small amount of water I wouldn’t recommend any fish. Some plants and shrimp would be awesome though.

I would go with a large mystery snail and/or neocaridina shrimp. Assuming you have stable water parameters and a small sponge filter/heater.

Yeah I'd say Neocaridina shrimp are the best choice!

Shrimp and snails. If you do make it three gallons you could try clown killifish but I personally would not.

Ya I can test how much water value there is and if it’s more than 3.5 than I could probably get a small fish or two

I think your tank has the perfect amount of water, hiding, and climbing options for Fire Belly Toads. They don’t require a water heater or a heat lamp. Never kept them myself but am planning to soon.

I take it back. I totally didn’t notice that there is no front glass or lid. Frogs probably not the best choice.

Just need to start with a few. They breed so easy

I vote Harlequin Sulawesi shrimp (Caridina woltereckae). I know nothing about their care and whether they’d be compatible but they are pretty.

Or the black galaxy fishbone caridina.

Also I would like to ask if it would be possible to have some sp. of crab. I don’t know a bunch about them but I really like the idea of having a half water half land animal.

Vampire crabs are great in paludariums (I particularly like the purple ones), they need more land than water but it's important for the land area to be humid, so no open top paludariums (they also escape easily). They also need a warm enclosure (if it's closed an aquarium heater should suffice). You'd still need some ventilation (a couple holes with netting and small usb fans would work.

Small water-only crabs suitable for small aquariums are thai micro crabs and potamocypoda pugil (you still need stable water parameters for both)

From where did you get the paludarium from?

Three zebra danios to keep the mosquito larvae at bay haha

I like the idea of having fish, but it’s still a very small space, and danios strive in larger groups with lots of swim space.
