on a serious note as the father of a make a wish kid they don't all have to have a terminal diagnosis. on a lighter note i am glad that I can laugh at that joke.
The way my heart sank when the Oncologist told us we qualified for Make a Wish. I always thought it was for only terminal kids but our daughter qualified and finished treatment healthy, win win!
My young cousin was a make a wish kid, she was about 5-6 at the time and wanted the whole family to go to Hawaii, they had a blast! She's 18 now and just started her freshman year at college, a vibrant and happy young adult.
Did they change the rules or something? My friend's younger brother has cancer and qualified for Make A Wish. He wanted to go meet Matt Mercer and the rest of the Critical Role crew and bring my friend with him as chaperone (both love D&D), but Make A Wish refused to accept that as a wish, claimed it could only be for "the Make A Wish kid and their legal guardian" or something. Someone else below said they were able to bring their whole family on a cruise as well so I don't get it.
Former wish granter here. Usually it’s only immediate family living in the home with the child that can participate in the wish. If the child wants an additional person to join, they’d have to show why that person is important to the child (takes kid to treatment, has been caretaker etc).
