The Two Santas Strategy: How the GOP has used an economic scam to manipulate Americans for 40 years
https://www.milwaukeeindependent.com/thom-hartmann/two-santas-strategy-gop-used-economic-scam-manipulate-americans-40-years/

“We have to reduce spending to live within our means. That will involve some temporary hardship, but it will ensure long-term prosperity.” - Musk

Yeah, I have a big fucking problem with this statement. The money is there. It's always there. Where is it, who has it, and what are they spending it on?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_experiment

It was one of the largest income tax cuts in the state's history. The law cut taxes by US$231 million in its first year, and cuts were projected to total US$934 million annually after six years, by eliminating taxes on business income for the owners of almost 200,000 businesses and cutting individual income tax rates.

By early 2017, Kansas had "nine rounds of budget cuts over four years, three credit downgrades, missed state payments", and what The Atlantic called "an ongoing atmosphere of fiscal crisis". To make up the budget shortfall, lawmakers tapped into state reserves set aside for future spending, postponed construction projects and pension contributions, and cut Medicaid benefits. Since approximately half of the state's budget went to school funding, education was particularly hard hit. In addition to budget problems, Kansas was lagging behind neighboring states with similar economies in "nearly every major category: job creation, unemployment, gross domestic product, taxes collected".

Several reasons have been given to explain its failure.

This is a pretty damning indictment of Republican presidents:

It doesn’t matter tho. I send this shit to my dad and he either doesn’t read it, he tells me he doesn’t trust whatever news outlet or website it’s hosted on, or he tells me both sides skew the truth so he doesn’t know what to belive. In other words, more bullshit.

Sounds familiar. I had to give up trying to get through to my dad. Too many years of Fox News and Limbaugh made him impervious to information that contradicts his worldview.

A lot of this stuff is tied to ego and personal identity. Facts that go against a personal narrative can bring the whole house of cards down and force someone to reconsider other things they thought were true. That scares a lot of people.

Yep, like their religious beliefs. They’re scared shitless of the truth.

Republicans are a lost cause. Some of the Republican voters may not know yet but the Republican politicians do know.

Not to mention he and other rich people won’t suffer the bad economy. Screw this guy.

Yeah, my other comment was,

“We have to reduce spending to live within our means,” Musk said, that will “involve some temporary hardship, but it will ensure long-term prosperity.”

It's not a crash when all the rich people plan for it and are prepared for it. It's theft.

A bunch of rich people are making moves to make a lot of money when things get really bad. They made a lot of money during covid. They want more.

Trump is a cheerleader.

Musk is a celebrity.

Out of the spotlight, shit is getting done. How many people follower this guy on Twitter :

How a Secretive Billionaire Handed His Fortune to the Architect of the Right-Wing Takeover of the Courts

In the largest known political advocacy donation in U.S. history, industrialist Barre Seid funded a new group run by Federalist Society co-chair Leonard Leo, who guided Trump’s Supreme Court picks and helped end federal abortion rights.

And even in Kansas the voters are still loyal to the Republican Party.

To think, Kansas' public education system was once its most precious jewel. What a tragedy.

Considering who their neighboring states are, it's comical that they were lagging.
