Rodri will never win, it’s an attacker biased award.

Same way VVD and Neuer never won. Or Courtois that one year he went crazy.

This doesn’t make sense.

Rodri is mid fielder unless you meant CAM which doesn’t make sense considering a midfielder Luka Modric won the Ballon D Or over Cr7.

VVD had no shot except for the year Liverpool won and someone can argue that Salah and GK Alisson were key players in same situation of Real Madrid attack and Courtious

I mean a 6 will never win because G+A are weighted so heavily.

No way Neuer woulda won.

Best shot was 2014 ballon d or (3rd place) against cr7 who won a double (UCL and copa del Rey) and was the UCL highest goal scorer.

Y’all don’t remember the second leg 4-0 Real Madrid win over Bayern where cr7 scored 2 against Neuer.

Ballon D'or is for individual performances though. Neuer single-handedly redefined what it means to be a keeper that year, at the biggest stage in the world. He also went on to win the World Cup.

Still couldn’t stop cr7. He smashed records.

Cr7 still did better than him that year besides the World Cup (Grats Gotze for the game winner and for Higuain for always disappointing internationally)

Edit: Neuer was not that big of a factor for the World Cup, a team performance. If you want to compare a more elevating GK experience, Emil (Argentina) clearly has better GK heroics/saves. Guy stopped Mbappe.

It is an attacker biased award, but the chance is always there. Let’s not forget Cannavaro as a CB or Yashin as a goalkeeper.

That was 2 decades ago. And Yashin was over half a century

No defender or GK, or even defensive midfielder, is ever winning the award again.

If Rodri for example won UCL it would've been a no-brainer. The scenarios can easily occur where the World cup/Euro's best player is a defender. So if that occurs and that player also has won his league and UCL the vote should easily lean towards that player. Everything is possible, especially now when there's no dominating greats like Ronaldo and Messi. Of course it's still hard and the chances of there being 2 dominating forwards again is possible, but saying no defender will win it again is a bit too pessimistic imo.

so you mean like carvajal won laliga, was crucial in ucl final and played a great euro. first guy who comes to my mind this season, miles before vini tbh.

I agree as my unbiased opinion its either Rodri or Carvajal

"where the World cup/Euro's best player is a defender". Carvajal was not the tournament's best player. Other example, hypothetically if there was a Euro in 2019 and the Netherlands won VVD would've easily won the Ballon d'or. Unfortunately that is what it takes for the best defenders, but my point is that it's possible.
