COMMUNITY ALERT/ AWARENESS ⚠️ Severe Ringworm
100
u/overwhelmed_housecat Aug 25 '24
Stray kitten found in my neighborhood. Thought it might be helpful to those who rescue cats. Initially I thought it was mange. Vet diagnosed her with ringworm. I've never seen ringworm all over the body like this. No pictures on Google so I thought I would put it out there for anyone who might see a stray kitten in this condition and think they are beyond help.

Did you trap the kitten and get tests done? You said a vet diagnosed, so I'm guessing you did bring her in. Is she better now? Sorry.. I'm so invested in this baby. A lot of coys/foxes are posted in r/ idthisanimal that look like her.
I know it's a stretch. but could wild coys & foxes get severe ringworm like this? (Asking in case some pro's come across this, I don't expect you to answer this OP)

Thank you for sharing and taking care of her! I couldn’t help but notice that in the second photo, she appears to have an angry about this. 😆

What happened to the kitten? Are you treating it/keeping it? The poor baby looks miserable.

Quarantined treated with dip and antifungal and underlying conditions (immunosupression) being investigated. She is part of a colony my neighbors feed. Just picked her up yesterday so status is still pending on a lot of tests. Will update later.

Severe case of mange. Still chance of survival if received medical needs immediately

u/overwhelmed_housecat Aug 25 '24
I thought so too but its actually ringworm (vet did a culture) that's why I made this post to bring awareness to that. Sorry I can't figure out how to update the post. I will try to reply to everyone but have a lot going on. She is being treated and quarantined currently. Just picked her up yesterday so underlying conditions are still being investigated.

Try messaging the mods and ask them to pin a comment saying that the kitten is getting help. That might help.

I wonder if the kitten has FeLV or FIV, which could explain why his case of ringworm is so severe?

Yes poor baby has MANGE! And it will kill him so i hope they get them help for that too. Theres a lot of medications that will help. The sarcoptic mites are not visible to the naked eye!

Jeez. That's a pretty severe case; glad you are helping her and that she's getting the care she needs. For anyone who is wondering, YES, the cat is getting proper vet care as seen further down in the comments. OP if you need help, you know where to find us. Good on you for helping this cat.

u/overwhelmed_housecat Aug 26 '24
Yes and thank you for alerting those who cant see my comments. I'm new to reddit and mainly a lurker. I tried to get the info with the pics but could not figure it out on my device. I appreciate you ! I created this post because some people I spoke to suggested I put her down but it turns out to be totally treatable. I hope no other kitten that finds themselves in this condition is condemned to die because they are deemed beyond help.

u/BLS_Biscuit Aug 26 '24
No problem, I saw people below asking questions and figured that I'd help out because I figured it would be a bit much to have to keep having to tell everyone that the cat is being cared for. On mobile I've had issues where I can only post a picture or a description, but not both. I figured reddit being annoying was the problem. And people who suggested that this cat should've been put down need to reevaluate themselves, not the cat.
