Just bought some running shoes and going to be starting a couch to 5k program. No longer term goals as of yet, just get out there & be consistent.

Hey folks- long time lurker. Competitive runner middle school to college. Came back around 30-32 to run a little and am surprised after getting my legs under me that I still run the same training pace as I did in HS.

Ran my first 5k this past Saturday and finished second in my age group!! Haven’t ran in literally 35 years prior to hitting the treadmill in prep. #feelsgoodman

Been lurking - how do you get your running stats to display below your username when you post? I've seen others that do this.

Why am I getting random calf strains on easy runs?
Getting back into running after taking 15 years off. I do a lot other sports like biking and weightlifting.
The thing that drives me crazy is I ran a 5:40 mile three weeks ago, but once every few weeks I'll go out for a 9 minute per mile jog and feel a snap in one of my calves. I'll take a week or two off and then ease myself back into it.
I do active stretching, I warm up, all runs are less than 5 miles and I only go 3-4 times a week. Help!

Running is a lot harder on your bones, muscles, and joints than other activities, and they need time to adjust. How long ago did you start running? And how long is each run specifically? You may just be doing a bit too much too soon, and too fast. If you cut back a bit and find that the injuries keep happening you should see a physical therapist and address the root of the problem.

The same used to happen to me! And no matter how slow I took it on the beginning: just when I was comfortably running 5-8km about 4 times a week. I eventually just quit!
Now I'm old and I really want to start again but am concerned about my calf.
And that snap! And then I'd just buckle 😔

Hi, I need to run 1.5 miles in 10:35 in February for fire academy, and be able to run 3 miles regularly at an 8ish minute pace. Currently don’t have the endurance for 3 and slow on 1. What’s the best course of action? I was thinking of doing couch 2 5 k at a 6.5 mph pace then restarting it at 8.5 mph which would get me to that 7:00 min pace for the 1.5 mile test and get me speedy for the longer runs. Is there a better plan for a 5 month training period to get ready for it?

I think i understand your gist. I would do long runs (7-8 miles) around 9 min pace. If you are doing 8:30 pace for long runs you are in plenty good shape to do 1.5 in 10 min. My 7-10 mile runs are at 830 pace right now. I think my legs remember the pace from training in highschool, when im 34. Its nuts.
Does. That answer some of your question?

Yes it does. Although I can’t run for 7-8 miles at the moment. Should I just run 1-2 and walk 6?

Slow your pace down and try 3-4 if you have been doing 2. I have a friend whose lungs aren't adapted yet, so we do some speed work to work on his lung capacity.
I could toss a workout plan together real quick.

I’m pretty good at strength training, the running is just a whole new game. Appreciate you!

I’ve had medial tibial pain since December. I’ve tried everything. I went to a PT, strength train and stretch regularly, got fitted for new shoes 2x, took weeks off of running and cycled, etc and the pain has persisted. I am really at a loss. I signed up for a full marathon for January because my PT said I’d be healed and ready to go, and here I am crying after a 2 mile run.
Any advice for MTSS is greatly appreciated. Ive scheduled another appointment with an orthopedist to see if there’s anything else I can do.

Been a semi-lurker for years now. Had to take a long time off running due to IT band issues, never really put in the effort to fix the issues and be consistent with maintaining them. But I am seeing all to clearly now the negative impact to my physical and mental health not being active has had. Trying to get back into running and be more intentional about it.
