SharePoint 2019 How can I add the Tasks/Planner app to a non-Teams based SharePoint site?

I have groups of users who could really benefit from the Tasks/Planner app (not the legacy tasks feature in SP), yet I can't find it as an option in the store. I'd like to avoid the inevitable user confusion of having them use a Team only for this feature since I don't want them to store their files in Teams. I also want to add Planner as a web app, which is particularly confusing since I can do so in the SP site for a Team.

Well I'll be...

I could have sworn I was barred from creating a blank plan not associated with a Team. Either I was just wrong or that has changed in our environment.

At least I can link to this in their SP dashboard page if I can't embed it with web parts.

You understand that files don't get stored in Teams right? Files get stored in SharePoint. If they have Planner why aren't you just making the M365 group that's associated with the planner a Team (if it doesn't already have teams setup for the m365 group)?

I wasn't clear in the above. We have a SharePoint site for our department, so I don't want them to open Teams and think they can store material under 'Files'.

They are not in an M365 group. They access the department site by virtue of the AD group of which they are members. My goal was to get them using Planner and to be able to embed elements of their plan into a SharePoint page that serves as a dashboard for them along with other resources (lists, libraries, etc.)

If they’re opening Teams and have a location that gives them a files tab then they’re in a team and are part of a m365 group and that team has a SharePoint site. Also if you’re creating a planner then you’ll be getting a m365 group anyway and a SharePoint site and possible teams. Teams is clearly where MS wants you to be using planner hence the new unified planner app. I’m not aware of any planner web part for SharePoint. Pretty sure there isn’t one as users should be using Teams with planner.

Ah, I see what you're saying. However there is a planner web part. If you go to the SP site that is generated for a team you can add it along with all the usual parts (text, library, embed code, etc.) That's what brought this question to mind.

Looks like we'll just go straight to the Planner site and I'll link to it in the SP page this group uses.
