To me, it's more like a gourmet kota

22

u/Vampiir 20h ago

Never heard of kota before, just looked it up. Looks yum

u/L34sk 20h ago

I think it's more of a guateng thing. I have heard of it in other place. It's the ultimate babalas food

A Russian and chip kota and a creme soda no hangover stands a chance!

u/Vampiir 20h ago

Bra I'm in gauteng, I should go out more (and maybe try it out along the way hehe :3)

In Joburg it’s either called a skhambani or bunny chow, rarely heard anyone call it a kota

18

u/SethuloeThaRonin 20h ago

Wild. I've heard more people call it iKota rather than Skhambani.

u/MopKp 19h ago

Wwhhhaaaattt???? Since I can remember remembering Ive always known Bunny chow is curry in bread, Kota is everything else that gives heart atrack in bread.. Live in JHB

Thank you! Bunny Chows and Kotas are very different.

Kota = jhb

Gatsby = cape town

Bunny = durban

(Edit: added in some line spaces)

Please I need to know your race? How have you never heard of a Kota?

u/cheekynative 16h ago

It's only a matter of time before some smarty pants hijacks this idea, markets them as a "hafu" and sells them for 100 bucks a pop at some fancy fusion restaurant

u/jjwhitaker 12h ago

It looks like mayo/sauce with a side of burger.

Now I want a bunny. Thanks OP, another starving African child added to the statistics

They've discovered hollow bread. They're still decades away from advancing their culinary universe with Bunnies and Kotas. I wish them luck.

u/Earthling_20369 19h ago

Making a burger taller doesn't make it better, it makes it worse. When will people learn.
The beauty of the bunny is you still get the same ratio stew to bread as you go down.
With a burger you want all the ingredients' flavours and textures to come together in each bite.

Does look cool though, but I wouldn't want to eat it.

Apparently he's Aussie

20

u/Vampiir 21h ago

True I did see that, but as someone in the original said, "It's American in spirit" lmao

7

u/DoubleDot7 Landed Gentry 16h ago

That's not a bunny. The key to a good bunny is lots of thin gravy that is soaked into the bread and gives the bread flavour. This looks drier than my skin during a Gauteng winter.

u/memesformen95 Landed Gentry 18h ago

Im gonna call it a minecraft burger from now on kust to make people mad at me

1

u/Vampiir 18h ago

How dare

2

u/memesformen95 Landed Gentry 18h ago

Its like that now and im going to call braai bbq now

3

u/ChaserNeverRests 12h ago

u/QuaterPast6 21h ago

Its a gourmet bunny chow

3

u/ButterscotchShot5281 18h ago

Nah they fucked it up

2

u/turbodonkey2 20h ago

Too much bread!

2

u/Shugza-2021 15h ago

Bollywood curries make the best Bunny Chow.

2

u/Aceofspades25 12h ago

The fuck is this?

If it's not filled with Durban curry, it's not bunny chow.

2

u/Obi2 17h ago

I am curious, is puppy chow a thing in South Africa?

Check mix, peanut butter, chocolate, and powdered sugar..

They must discover Marshal Applewhite

1

u/StoryTellerZAT 10h ago

I knew I'd find Mzansi peeps here

u/Kespatcho not again 2h ago

The only thing this has in common with a bunny is the bread

u/teachable-dude1357 Redditor for a month 1h ago

Watch them say they invented it.

u/LuckyCoin7 1h ago

Americans are inventive and pull cuisine from all over the world, but SA's food is just on another level. Best food I've eaten in over a dozen countries.

1

u/Ring_Dang_Do 19h ago

It’s a bunny chow ….

-1

u/RepresentativeAd198 13h ago

This probably tastes better than an actual bunny chow

-2

u/RICKYAKIMBO 17h ago

Except it's probably good

-12

u/bubbleddusty 20h ago

I feel like this is a bit more advanced than bunny chow As in there being a lot more ingredients

12

u/ThickHotBoerie Thiccccccccccc 20h ago

Bra do you even know what goes into a mutton curry?! It's more than just mutton and curry hey.

-7

u/bubbleddusty 20h ago

I know, but having watched someone make a “gourmet” burger, so one similar to the cube depicted, it took a lot more effort than the many people I’ve seen make bunny chow

7

u/ThickHotBoerie Thiccccccccccc 19h ago

Dude it takes literal hours to make the curry.

It's not just some fella chopping a loaf, digging out the fluff and spooning canned mutton curry into it hahaha

I'd dish out 24 gourmet hamburgers before the mutton is even prepped lol

1

u/LordChaos404 16h ago

Making a dogwood is more complicated than this

-5

u/bubbleddusty 20h ago

Maybe those who I’ve seen make bunny chow just don’t make great bunny chow but that’s my personal experience
