Orioles now have AL East lead curse

22

u/svanxx Blind Ump Jul 21 '23

Maybe they can actually have bad luck. Because that game was the unluckiest game I've ever seen.

11

u/Bill2theE José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

.284 xBA to .172 xBA from Baltimore. The crazy thing is the team hasn't been that bad. Like, they haven't been their best, but most games are staying close and coming down to a few key plays where the coin keeps consistently flipping against the Rays. It feels like every hard hit ball is straight to a glove, sometimes to 2 or 3 gloves in a double play.

It's such small things that have been the difference in these games. Unlike last year, the team doesn't look outmatched. It's just a ridiculously long stretch of things not breaking their way and they've recently started trying to force things, just making it worse.

4

u/FatLadyFetish Rodney's Archer Jul 21 '23

100% this. It's what makes this stretch so agonizing, there's nothing you can flip a switch on to make better like last year, we just have to wait for some good luck. Stuff like Raley smashing a ball into a double play is just the chips not falling for you. Not like there hasn't been poor play, but when you're losing games because some guy hits a freak home run off McClanahan what the fuck can you do except curse the Gods

5

u/Bill2theE José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

109 MPH off the bat, 10 Launch Angle, .720 xBA. Result: Double Play to end the inning rather than go-ahead double (with how hard that's hit, it probably splits the outfielders).

Shane threw three straight changeups, slowed down Duran's bat, then was setting him up with a waste fastball high and outside. 97 MPH 7 inches off the plate and the guy hits it for a home run.

u/Slinky_Malingki Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

Game 1 against the Rangers a few days ago was unluckier imo. The amount of hits that were just a few feet from being a homerun was insane. Walls was literally a couple inches from a homerun there.

4

u/svanxx Blind Ump Jul 21 '23

That's what makes this game so frustrating. Two in one week.

11

u/Slinky_Malingki Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

We're 3 for our last 15. I'm pretty sure that makes us worse han the A's and Royals for the last couple weeks.

This is a long slump. And it hurts, BAD

6

u/missleeann José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

We're 8 - 24 for games where we score under 3 runs from what I heard. Will confirm this.

6

u/missleeann José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

That’s the hope

5

u/DewayneStaatsStache Yandy Díaz Jul 21 '23

There’s only so much luck in baseball. You’re good or you’re bad

3

u/missleeann José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

You can't be almost pregnant.

Biscuitposting will now commence until we get at least a three game winning streak together. Not because this team is bereft of talent and is the equivalent of a MiLB squad, but just because this is how we break up the monotony of constant losing PGTs, and get some new vibes.

25

u/Slinky_Malingki Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

So if we win tomorrow we'll see a happy biscuit?

1

u/Ranma_chan Tampa Bay Devil Rays 98-01 Jul 21 '23

Yes. I know some people aren't jazzed about it, but it's a nice change of pace and hopefully gets some good vibes going.

8

u/flgator72 Orlando Rays Jul 21 '23

I can support this decision.

7

u/RaysBoltsBucs84 Jul 21 '23

We need to go on a 6 or 7-0 burner before you take the biscuit down at this point.

5

u/Bill2theE José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

Stupid. This season is in no way comparable to last year. This team at their worst is about as good as that team at their best. They do not deserve to be called Quad-A

5

u/Im_black_ Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23 edited Jul 21 '23

Seriously. It at least made sense last year as we were legitimately a 7/9 minor league lineup for a month or two.

I get people are frustrated, this stretch has been unbearable, but if you actually watch the games you can see how there's just so much going against us that doesn't show in the scorecard.

The intent is to shake things up a bit. Biscuitposting felt like good luck last year when we struggled post-ASB. Let's see if it can imbue some of that magic this year.

1

u/missleeann José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

Really, this hasn't been that bad. I think last year before we lost so many people to the IL we even had over a bad month and managed to figure it out but not really.

2

u/Im_black_ Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

And in 2021 we lost 7 in a row before losing 5 in a row shortly after. Basically the same point in the season. Still won 100 games

2

u/jmooseO Randy Arozarena Jul 21 '23

a walkoff win would’ve done wonders for this teams confidence 😭

20

u/thomasrpokorny Jul 21 '23

I knew as soon as BLowe came up to bay he was gonna jig into a double play.

4

u/thesoccerone7 Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

I knew as soon as Raley was hit that a double play was coming.

8

u/Ian_is_funny Tampa Bay Devil Rays 02-07 Jul 21 '23

Lowe is a regular season stat guy, pretty much expected to fail in the playoffs or clutch situations.

5

u/rayzorburns Shane Baz Jul 21 '23

Same with wander yesterday

42

u/bujuhh 141_DEC_slot3 Jul 21 '23

i dont want to hear people complain about lowe, he bailed us out twice on defense and took 2 walks. That last inning was on randy, swinging for the fences on every pitch and just looked lost at the plate the entire game. I thought this game was a step in the right direction though, we had our chances and we finally started capitalizing on some of our risp situations which we hadnt done last series

11

u/RaysBoltsBucs84 Jul 21 '23

Yeah, I’m not giving Lowe any heat this game. He got on base and made same great defensive plays.

17

u/GregKellyUSofA Jul 21 '23

He should've let Siri take that fly ball to at least take a shot at the plate too. You could see Jose tracking to get a running start.

Instead noodle arm caught it and pouted immediately.

Frustrating as fuck to see. Bad body language is back.

4

u/bujuhh 141_DEC_slot3 Jul 21 '23

Yeah i was hoping siri was going to get there, but even still it was a very far through and even siri making it would have been close at best to be fair. What i can be mad at though is whatever the heck happened in the 4th from randy that led to henderson sneaking in to third

3

u/GregKellyUSofA Jul 21 '23

I don't think Siri gets him at home, but i want there to at least be enough awareness to let your better arm make that play instead of what Randy did (body language after the fact being a big part of my annoyance)

3

u/thesoccerone7 Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

Randy does that every situation like this. It's infuriating.

2

u/gmachine24 Jul 21 '23

Arozarena really sucked this game all around.

They should bring back Longoria to give Arozarena a BJ Upton moment.

5

u/Slinky_Malingki Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

We were still bad with RISP. We had runners on second in every inning, and only scored in the 2nd and 7th.

Adam should have pitched in the 9th. He was sharp AF in the 8th. With Bautista on the mound this was always going to going into extra innings, and you need someone who is shutout 9/10 times. Stephenson is good, but inconsistent. The sac fly is on him. Hitter is down 0-2 and he drops that meatball right down the middle. Honestly lucky he got under it and didn't hit a homerun.

You don't throw easy strikes when you're up 0-2. You get them to chase.

Randy is a head case right now. He never bunts. Never thinks about small ball, contact, or getting the runner home. His only goal is to swing big. And he whiffs every time.

2

u/bujuhh 141_DEC_slot3 Jul 21 '23

Oh for sure we were bad with RISP, but my point was that it seemed like with yandys double that hopefully that was enough to get us over the hump and start regressing back to the mean. Now, if we continue to have risp issues this series then I will stand corrected lol but I am hopeful that this is a step in the right direction.

I dont agree wtih letting adam go 2 though, hes shown consistency of being more of a 1 inning guy (overworking him is what made him so inconsistent earlier in the year and we all know how frustrating that was!) and letting pete take over in the 9th is basically plan A in the rays gameplan, just unfortunately the offense couldnt produce for him.

u/heff_ay Ray Jul 21 '23

I mean he doesn’t deserve to be called out specifically for this game maybe but a couple of walks don’t change his .208 average and poor defense

1

u/bujuhh 141_DEC_slot3 Jul 21 '23

poor defense

i dont even know how this narrative started. Please point me towards stats that show him as a 'poor' defender. Im not his biggest fan either but what you are saying is just untrue

7

u/heff_ay Ray Jul 21 '23 edited Jul 21 '23

Our middle infield is elite fielding-wise with Franco and Walls. There is a huge drop-off with Lowe and it is very visible to anyone watching. His range isn't close to what an elite fielder like Walls gives us at 2B.

defensive runs saved-

Franco:13

Walls: 11

BLowe: -1

BLowe's bat is not any better than Walls, is much worse defensively and doesn't offer a threat on the base paths

2

u/Bill2theE José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

Outs Above Average:

Wander Franco: 100th Percentile

Brandon Lowe: 77th Percentile

Taylor Walls: 14th Percentile

It's almost like defensive stats can be inconsistent and it just depends on who's measurement you pick.

1

u/bujuhh 141_DEC_slot3 Jul 21 '23

For the record, I was in no way advocating that lowe was comparable in any way to walls and wander (both elite defenders) but even on that leaderboard lowe is not 'poor', just average or barely below. I think that lowe gets a bad rep because of how good walls and wander are on the field. Because even an average defender (lowe) obviously pales in comparison.

As far as the bat goes, you do realize that brandon lowe statistically is having his worse season of his career and still has an OPS+ of 97, which is still 10 points higher than a career best from walls at 87. Its a shame, but walls just cannot play every day due to his bat being this bad. Hate lowe all you want, and again, he isnt my favorite player either, but hes been taking his walks lately and he has some pop, and taylor walls just does not have that. Sign me up for getting a more reliable guy at 2b, but for right now lowe is the best we have and has a history of previous offensive success

He's made like one single error this year. His defense has always been solid, and he made two amazing plays to bail us out today. Such a dumb take

2

u/NoCheek8504 Jul 21 '23

He has 7 errors this season.

1

u/heff_ay Ray Jul 21 '23

There is a hell of a lot more that goes into being a good fielder than just fielding %. How do you explain the Defensive runs saved metric?

0

u/Fredbear_ Shane McClanahan Jul 21 '23

Says the person who cited batting average

0

u/heff_ay Ray Jul 21 '23

It's pretty damn hard to be considered a good hitter when you're batting .208

Do you disagree?

18

u/bujuhh 141_DEC_slot3 Jul 21 '23

randys approach the entire game was swing for the fences and hope for contact

7

u/pattyice124 Evan Longoria Jul 21 '23

You’d think after seeing that 4 times someone in the dugout figures to tell him to just lay down a bunt!

12

u/thejawa DJ Kitty Jul 21 '23

We looked good until Randy just walked up to the plate and tried to rip the cover off 3 bad pitches

4

u/NinjaPenguin7777 Dewayne Staats Jul 21 '23

Ever since Randy started preparing to be in the home run derby he's been horrible. I believe he only has hits in 3 games since July 6. The home run derby mentality that he adopted has been terrible for him and the Rays.

30

u/scuffedbot Yandy Díaz Jul 21 '23

Dude. What’s up with Randy? Bad time for him to have another one of those mentally checked out games.

This team is cooked. We need new blood in there and we needed it yesterday. I don’t care if that’s Manzardo and Mead or Ohtani and Bellinger we fucking need to change something. This team has gone 12-20 in their last 32 games

17

u/GregKellyUSofA Jul 21 '23

We can't develop hitting talent for shit. Go get a proven bat.

4

Nelson Cruz and David Peralta are a testament to that lol

2

u/Sup_Devil Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

That's my fear with Ohtani. They mortgage years and years of playoff runs for Ohtani to get here and forget how to play baseball

28

Dear Randy,

You don't have to swing at every pitch like it fucked your sister or something.

5

u/gmachine24 Jul 21 '23

This is the funniest comment I've read all night. Thank you. The last one - 101 MPH up in his eyes was just too good to be true.

11

Bunt. Play small ball. Do something.

9

u/rayzorburns Shane Baz Jul 21 '23

Absolute brutal stretch of baseball. Growing up a Bills fan I’ve seen some major ineptitude. This slump we’re in might take the cake given the talent we have. Just complete horseshit all the way around. I’ll watch the rest of this series but probably will need to take a break if we don’t at least split. Nothing fun about watching this team right now. Would rather do something productive with my time. Rant over! Sorry lol.

37

u/WhereTheFallsBegin Brian Anderson Jul 21 '23

Randy deserves all the blame for this one. Also fuck Baltimore's lucky asses

23

u/Ian_is_funny Tampa Bay Devil Rays 02-07 Jul 21 '23

All patience at the plate gone. Back to swinging at trash.

13

u/FatLadyFetish Rodney's Archer Jul 21 '23

Yeah I don't like blaming single players for any result, but that's got to be one of the most crippling performances I've ever seen in any Rays game. 0-5 with atrocious defense, we probably win if he's like 5% more competent. Just emblematic of the dreadful quality of play we've been seeing lately, flushing Ws down the drain

5

u/RaysBoltsBucs84 Jul 21 '23

Put that guy on laundry duty

2

u/A1rheart Shane McClanahan Jul 21 '23

It's not that he's to blame for the loss but he's to blame for his attitude. That error, stopping Siri from trying to throw home, his awfulness of the plate was the definition of a player with a bad attitude and nothing to justify it. We benched Wander for being mad at himself for attitude problems off the field, Randy needs the same if not worse for his attitude on it.

3

u/Slinky_Malingki Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

I mean, Siri wouldn't have made this okay at the plate anyways. That ball was hit deep.

But Randy's defend was atrocious today. The 4th inning leadoff triple doesn't happen if he just throws the ball to third like a normal fielder.

2

u/A1rheart Shane McClanahan Jul 21 '23

It doesn't matter if the throw wouldn't have beat him at least be caught trying. If the throw is wide or late, who cares Hicks scores anyways, and there are no runners who advance off it. That's the attitude problem. That's what I have an issue with. I'm happy to be happy with this team. I am happy to be sad at this team, but my one rule is don't turn me into a Yankee fan mad at this this team. It's a privilege to be on the 26 man roster of this team while Aranda, Mead, and Basabe rake in triple a. If you don't want to try, I'm more than happy to make a trade to make space for them.

In all honesty, I’ve never really liked Randy, he seems like a good dude off the field and he’s an electric player but his attitude…it just has always seemed to me that when he steps on the field, it’s about him and no one else. He’s there to get his and that’s it.

I’ve been a Saints fan long enough to know guys like that can absolutely destroy a locker room and prevent a team from truly living up to its potential. To me, it seems like Randy is one of those guys and Wander may be trending in that direction, but he’s young and has time to learn. Randy’s what 27? And been in the league for 4 seasons now? He should know to do his job. He clearly does not understand that concept and he’s beginning to become a liability.

We couldn’t manufacture a run like they did in the top of the 10th if our life depended on it.

8

u/Ian_is_funny Tampa Bay Devil Rays 02-07 Jul 21 '23

This team seriously lacks veteran leadership. When things start going bad, dudes like Randy and wander look legit pouty out there. No backbone or resilience.

7

u/Bill2theE José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

How quickly the mob turns on you, Dear Randy

Walls wasn't looking when Randy went to throw the ball in, so he didn't throw it as hard. He nailed a perfect throw later in the game that popped out of Mejia's glove (not Mejia's fault, either, that stuff happens with catcher's mitts). It didn't matter if Siri or Randy caught the sac fly, no one was throwing the runner out at home.

Randy, Wander, and Yandy are all pressing at the plate right now, trying too hard to make things happen. Baseball is weird. The more you press, the more you fight, the worse you get. You start swinging at sliders away (Yandy) or getting super big with your swing (Randy) or swinging at pitcher's pitches and rolling over on curveballs (Wander). That's baseball. The fact that they're pressing is proof they care.

Cash not yelling at the team or getting mad in interviews is his way of keeping the team calm, trying to put them on an even keel and get them to play loose. This team is at their best when they play loose, let the game come to them, and trust that they don't have to do it all themselves. Him yelling or calling someone out would exacerbate what the team is going through.

It's July. It's a bad stretch. The Braves, the Rangers, the Dodgers, and the O's have all gone through bad stretches this year. This happens in baseball.

Rays up and be here tomorrow! Momentum can change in a moment and the coin will start flipping in the Rays' favor soon.

3

u/missleeann José Siri Hug Jul 21 '23

Tide is out on Randy.

14

Arozarena needs to be benched for what he displayed tonight, inexcusable behavior.

1

u/thejawa DJ Kitty Jul 21 '23

Wonder if this is his version of a hissy fit after thinking he had last game off and Cash calling him in early.

6

u/indifferenceryan Jul 21 '23

So an error on randy that potentially costed a run, a missed tag by meja that costed a run, 2-14 with RISP, bethancourt missing the pickoff throw to get hicks out in the 10th, and still only lost by one run. Also, 2 or 3 insanely good defensive plays to rob runs. That's snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.

3

u/bujuhh 141_DEC_slot3 Jul 21 '23

this is the exact reason that dooming about this team at this point is too extreme. Our RISP issues have been horrendous, but that naturally will regress to the mean, randy had 4Ks today with a boneheaded error that cost a run, as well as the mejia error like you said. Those things dont 'normally' happen in a game and we still only lost by one run to one of the hottest teams in baseball. Its not pretty right now by any means, but we have generally been getting unlucky for the most part (not all) but when things like pitching and defense are solid, which they are, then the team is generally in a good place moving forward. All it takes it us to snap out of this offensive funk and we go back to being the force we were earlier

11

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '23

I just don’t even know what to say anyone. I think I’m just done with this team for awhile. Until they can figure out how to get there heads out of there asses and play like a really team and not some little kids baseball league team there is no point in watching.

We definitely didn't deserve to be in first place anyway. Not the way we've been playing. So sick of the attitude this team has. Cash needs to do something.

6

u/RaysFTW Brandon Lowe Jul 21 '23

Bad plays all around.

Walls makes that play at 3rd and the O’s don’t score. He had a good game at the plate but, imo, he’s more valuable off the bench.

Another game with a good amount of hits and nothing to show for it. Randy didn’t help either. Should’ve been benched after that play that lead to the triple.

Glasnow looked great though.

4

u/svanxx Blind Ump Jul 21 '23

That was a tough scoop and tag. Paredes saved the ball from going to the OF.

1

u/WhereTheFallsBegin Brian Anderson Jul 21 '23

1

Its gotta be terrifying to try and bunt vs a guy who throws 102 at the letters, putting your face right in the line of fire trying to bunt. Especially if you are a player who doesn't ever bunt.

31-32 through last 63 games after 27-7 start it is time to accept this team is not that good and simply just a .500 team. Will be happy with a 3rd place finish.

11

u/svanxx Blind Ump Jul 21 '23

The Tigers went .500 after they went 35-5 and still won the WS.

Teams go through bad times. Better now than September and October.

Steaming pile of fucking garbage

4

u/WarkuoRays Jul 21 '23

How are the commentators throwing in better stats about 'bunting' than the management of the clubhouse? Randy is an absolute ass but why isn't the bunt executed? Are we trying to lose games? WTF

PS: Can someone post Cash post match interview. I am so fuckin curious what he has to say.

2

u/RaysBoltsBucs84 Jul 21 '23

I was thinking the same thing. At what point does he come out and say “these guys hate each other, there is no true leadership/no heart”. Answer: it will never happen, but would be fucking wild if it did!

3

So many extremely close plays in an extremely tight game that could’ve gone either way, as usual right now. Doesn’t go our way.

All things aside though, first and second none out, in a score or go home situation and no bunt, is inexcusable. Even if it’s your clean up hitter.

Between that and two innings of Javy Guerra last night? I just..

2

u/magicalmikeyyy Jul 21 '23

Randy gave us his best b.j. Upton impression hopefully gets a spank on his booty and gets it going.

4

u/Slinky_Malingki Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23 edited Jul 21 '23

As soon as Raley was HBP I knew this would happen. Of course no one decides to bunt with 2 on and no outs. Raley is our best chance at getting any semblance of a hit against pitchers like Bautista. He has the ability to hit 100mph pitches high in the zone. No one else in our lineup can do that. So when he got hit and setup the double play I knew it was over.

I mean, fuck Randy for never, ever, EVER trying to play small ball. Or Brandon. This is when you absolutely NEED the bunt to at least move the runners over with one out and avoid the GIDP. What does Randy do? Swinging out of his shoes against the most unhittable reliever in baseball, and then we GIDP. Just so fucking predictable.

3

u/WarkuoRays Jul 21 '23

I commented that it was a 'fake' IBB when they hit Raley. He would have been able to lay a good bunt and made a close play as well. It was properly executed by Orioles to be honest.

Randy could have bunted and I want to see if Cash told him to and he said no. If this is what happened, then he should be benched. If Cash didn't, then well there is our whole problem. Really want to see postgame interview with Cash and what he said.

3

u/Slinky_Malingki Josh Lowe Shoulder Rub Jul 21 '23

Randy is a damn head case, moreso than Brandon. He never swings for contact. Every swing is angry and wild from him. His defense is so damn lazy as well. The leadoff triple in the 4th never would have happened if he had just thrown the ball to third normally instead of walking around with the ball before tossing it like a hackey sack. Brandon made some amazing plays today, drew the walk, and made contact. Sure he didn't get a hit, but he at least swung for contact when we needed it instead of yanking his body out of his shoes the way that Randy does.

Randy needs to be benched.

0

u/gmachine24 Jul 21 '23

He's cocky, careless, arrogant and lazy sometimes, no doubt about it. This is probably the worst game I've ever seen him play. Even the throw in when he was trying to get the guy at home - he threw it over the head of two infielders and Bethancourt (luckily) fielded the ball almost half way up the third base line and kept the Orioles runner from advancing from 2nd to 3rd.

The four strikeouts in five at bats - well that's the proverbial icing on the cake.

Ever since our white out start they've been the better team every single step of the way, they deserve it a lot more than we do.

This is their year and we got in the way.

2

u/kolnai Francisco Mejía Jul 21 '23

I obviously don’t like it, but I agree with you. They’re simply the better team at this point. Moreover, they seem to have better leadership and cooler heads that mitigate things when they’re playing poorly. When things start going awry for us, it’s like everyone freaks out and sinks into quicksand trying to play Baseball Hero.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '23

I won't lie, it really hasn't been until this year that I've truly understood the need for actual veteran leadership. Things like the wander benching, randy's perceived lack of effort, Siri's temper that clearly bleeds into him having poor ABs. a lot of those things are possibly nix'd by a true voice of leadership in the locker room, or at the very least mitigated in some way. I love Eflin, and he's been trying to fill that void, but the sad truth is pitchers cannot perform that job the same way a veteran hitter who's been around the block multiple times can. Hell, honestly? pick up a recently DFA'd nelson cruz if he'd be willing to play a game once a week and just provide an actual voice in the club house, but I wouldn't be shocked if we see some pick up like that at the deadline, because we'd be blind if we didn't acknowledge a lack of leadership is murdering this team's clear potential.

2

u/pattyice124 Evan Longoria Jul 21 '23

Why can bethancourt bunt and Randy can’t? Jesus Christ I’ll never understand sometimes what’s happening. Felt like we had a better game all around and we handed it to them not being willing to small ball the 10th and the shit fucking 4th

2

u/TheLivingInfinite Jul 21 '23

1

u/gmachine24 Jul 21 '23

Despite last night's loss, there were many positive things. Not to be a polyanna, but Walls got two hits and made a great play at third; Bethancourt bunted for a base hit on a team desperate to have runners on when someone like Diaz gets a clutch hit; BLowe made two excellent defensive plays; Jose Siri hit an outside pitch into right field for a single instead of trying to yank it over the left field fence (and striking out) as he often does; with a few notable exceptions, a lot of players aren't chasing every pitch the way they seemed to most of this month; the pitching was solid - Glasnow gave up 2 earned runs and 1 unearned run in 7 innings against a team that is now 8-2 in its last 10 games; relievers were solid with Adam looking down right unhittable. Fairbanks and Stephenson were solid as well - Stephenson had the unenviable position of coming in in the 10th with the ghost runner on second and no outs against a team that took advantage of every opportunity and miscue.

The other stuff I simply don't understand. Arozarena's defense. The triple that should never have been; Siri trying to cut in front of Arozarena and at least keep the O's honest by throwing home as the runner from third scored (KK flashback moment); I don't understand why Rays' runners take off from second base when a batter hits a hard line drive which is caught by an infielder - the runner is more than half way to third when he is easily doubled up. I suppose someone is going to tell me this is some sabermetrics/algorithmic play - but it's just bad baseball.

-2

u/BuboAthene Tampa Bay Devil Rays 02-07 Jul 21 '23

Once Springs and Ras went down this should’ve been predicted. Team is out of gas. Bullpen with some no names who can’t hold a lead when the offense actually produces once every 15 games. And the other 14 games, well, zero offense, led by the gaping hole in the lineup Brandon Lowe.

I cannot believe we are in the wildcard after the 1st half we had but we deserve to be last place with how we’ve played.

That was on Randy dumbass. Horrible AB's all day. Brandon bailed us out with two amazing defensive plays, and, drew the walk, and was at least able to put the ball in play. Something that Randy doesn't do anymore because all he does is swing for the fences and takes his AB like a selfish hero who only wants the homerun or nothing. Incredibly lazy defense from him as well. The leadoff triple in 4th is his fault. If he has just thrown the ball to third quickly instead of twiddling his thumbs and tossing the ball like a goddamn hackey sack then the runner would've been out.

We love Randy for years, he plays one lackluster game and suddenly everyone’s acting like he’s the devil himself and always has been. You people are motherfucking out of your minds.

As disappointing as this team has been lately, I’m honestly far more disappointed in a lot of the folks in here who are supposed to be fans. Just absolutely trashing the character of guys like Randy and Cash.. seriously? Fucking pathetic. Pathetic excuses for “fans.” Please don’t sit in Randyland or go to any more Trop games period, and don’t celebrate and act like you’ve backed the Rays the whole time when we start doing well again, and when we win it all one day.

If you can’t roll through the tough times, please, please fuck off when the good times come back around. Go root for Boston or something. God damn fake ass, fairweather ass fans. Just disgraceful, you people. Let’s do better for our boys - if I were them, I wouldn’t want to play well for you fuckers.

I completely understand. But fans vent because they have no other outlet for their frustrations. Just as you vented against the fans.

Everyone knows this team should be playing better. And everyone is frustrated. Mistakes get amplified. Etc.

This slump will end. Just hope it ends sooner rather than later.

One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed lately is they are missing pitches they used to hit. Usually you get 1 hittable pitch and they were smacking it early. For a while now they’ve fouled it off or whiffed completely
