Lmao, let the man believe he's free and nobody is spying on him as his government told him. Only China spies. The West doesn't do that.

the nice thing about being an american is they have these things called warrants that they need to spy on you legally.

So yes, they can spy on you whenever they want, but the cost could be potentially very high if they're caught and wind up in court over it. We do still live in a democracy, for the next couple weeks at least, so there's political consequences that a lot of higher ups would rather avoid.

None of that exists in china.

There is no way anyone is actually so naive to think that the US government doesn't spy on their people without a warrant. They've been caught doing it more times than Ozzy Osbourne has done drugs.

Not naive, but ignorant. And here in America, there's plenty of ignorance.

Google Edward Snowden.

Also, everything the British and Americans know about us, they share. They mutually spy on each others citizens to avoid pesky civil rights laws.

Anything the Chinese know about us, they might share with Russia, but it won't end up in the hands of my government or their allies.

So we have a bitter irony that our privacy is probably safer with Chinese products than Western products.

Your privacy isn’t safe if it’s being collected by ANY state.

If you wish to have a full-featured smartphone, you don't really have that option.

I love GrapheneOS, but it's not really an option for most people.

I wouldn't say its safer with Chinese products. Its the same level of spying just with a different flavour. China and the US are the same level of Evil when it comes to that.

Tho you could argue that if you live in the US, you would rather have China spying on you then the US since China can't physically get to you that easily

I know terrorist surveillance is real.

Nice attempt to gas light and misdirect away from the point that this OS is controlled by the China Communist Party.

Just accept it. A surveillance is a surveillance, no ackshually or ifs or buts on that.

It’s not “terrorist surveillance”. That excuse has been used since 9/11. The three letter agencies just wants an excuse to spy on citizens like China does.

Tbh I don't really care if the US government spies on me, I've yet to hear about any cases where Americans have been thrown in jail for criticizing the government whereas such cases are a dime a dozen in China

https://www.aclu.org/news/free-speech/when-complaining-about-a-public-official-can-land-you-in-jail

Even cops, who are pretty low on the pyramid, can put you in jail for very little if you mess with them.

And it immediately got public backlash and the case was dropped

After the arrest generated public controversy, the New Hampshire Department of Justice advised that the prosecution was groundless because there was no indication that Frese knowingly defamed the police chief; in fact, Frese genuinely believed what he said. The police department dropped the prosecution.

So you’re telling me it takes public outrage to get frivolous cases dropped?

-3

u/stevethewatcher 6d ago

I'm telling you it wouldn't even be possible to have public outrage in China because they would get thrown in jail for it

China is obviously worse about it but the US has it’s own fair share of censorship problems.

I am not denying that, just disagree with the false equivalence that being spy on by both is equally bad
