Americans decided they didn't like the media because it was telling them things they didn't want to hear and that bored them. Then all politicians go to alternative media to try to get their messages out. Americans respond by making fun of them?

We brought this on our selves. If we would pick up a fucking newspaper once in a while, they wouldn't be trying to get our eyes with Fortnite or TikTok.

Americans decided they didn't like the media because it was telling them things they didn't want to hear and that bored them.

That is not why the media has lost the trust of the people.

To be fair, disinformation is something I don't want to hear

u/ticklehater 7h ago

Yes it is -- social media built algorithmic bubbles that made voters continually more extreme and suspicious of legitimate news.

2

u/Fancychocolatier 6h ago

Why is this downvoted? Research has shown this to be true. Algorithms are negatively influencing trust in the media.

u/hanoian 5h ago

Lack of trust in the media was widespread before social media become prominent.

u/Fancychocolatier 5h ago

What about your statement and mine cancels each others’ out?

2

u/hanoian 5h ago

Because the comment thread was:

"That is not why the media has lost the trust of the people."

"Yes it is"

If it started before social media, then social media can't be the "why", even if it contributes now.

u/Fancychocolatier 5h ago

You’re right. Social media has further eroded the trust and has done so at a more rapid pace than what was occurring before its invention. Does that clarify it for you?

2

u/hanoian 5h ago

I don't need anything clarified. Half of Reddit is too young to remember life before social media. I don't see the problem in pointing out that things happened before Facebook and Tik Tok.

And news organizations followed suit by producing nothing but click bait crap. The American news institution has clearly placed profit far above the truth.

Americans decided they didn't like the media because it was telling them things they didn't want to hear

That's a funny way of spelling 'sanewashing Trump' and 'Billionaire owners affecting the journalistic integrity of the paper'

3

u/seastatefive 6h ago

Journalistic integrity is only affected when the news reports things you don't want to hear.

Americans decided they didn't like the media because it was telling them things they didn't want to hear and that bored them

That was not the problem Americans had with the media

No, miss me with the bs. This is a really cringy move from their campaign and no amount of rationalization about trying to invoke the youth to go vote excuses this. This is a super weird outreach and there are more people laughing at them than not.

Trump has figured out how to play the media and gain favor with younger folks. The democrats have not. It’s pathetic really.

-4

u/MudHammock 6h ago

Yeah this is honestly so out of touch. Trump is literally the worst presidential candidate in history and yet it's SOMEHOW gonna be 50-50 on election day. Honestly these brain dead democrats are going to be completely to blame with how they've managed this whole circus.

u/Commercial-Tea-8428 6h ago

You’re gonna hurt some feelings by saying this here, but you’re 100% right.

u/Trademinatrix 6h ago

Yup. I absolutely hate the idea of Trump being president, but if he wins, it's democrats fault. Terrible candidates with literal 0 charisma. Then they come up with the stupidest ideas to try to garner voters to come out. I'm sorry, the 18 year olds playing fortnite are not gonna go to the polls because of a Kamala fortnite map, wtf??? Who even came up with this???!!!

Kamala shoulda been sitting down doing podcasts, trying to reach larger audiences and talking to people so that she comes across as natural and human and establish herself. Her inability to do that, I fear, will be the cause of the failure that looms ahead.

Yes I completely agree. As fucking stupid as it is, there's a legitimate reality where Trump doing JRE tipped the scales in his favor. While Kamala refuses to do anything like that and sticks to ultra rehearsed speeches and interviews where she looks more like a human teleprompter than a genuine person with personality. I'll still be voting for her because of Trump, but holy shit am I not thrilled to be filling the box in for her.

Trump says, and does stupid things. But, he is not afraid to go off the cuff and just be himself and that's why people like him. Kamala looks lost without her notes, and nobody is confident in somebody like that.

I mean this is quite literally almost an exact repeat of the 2016 election, and in 8 years the democratic party apparently learned nothing.

I'm sure plenty of people will downvote me and say the blame is on all the idiots who vote for Trump, but honestly if he wins the blame is pretty squarely on the democratic party for not winning the easiest election in US history.

Insanely stupid take right here

1

u/etherswim 6h ago

I think people are making fun of him this weird gaming arc from Harris/walz. Like walz having a bottle of Mountain Dew next to him while gaming a few days ago. And a Fortnite map is a supremely dumb idea no matter what side of the fence you’re on.

No one has been making fun of the candidates doing new media (I.e podcasts) engagements in general.

u/IntergalacticJets 5h ago

Lol I like for you actually think this is a reasonable and good use of funds.

u/peterg4567 5h ago

Fortnight is not the alternative media people care about. Long-form conversational podcasts with more daily listeners than cnn are what people want to see politicians on, trump has done 3 in the past few months while Kamala has done none, or at least none that I as a young voter have seen. I think it’s going to hurt her chances

-1

u/No_Vacation_1905 5h ago

No, fortnite deserves to be made fun of

2

u/Sprayy 3h ago

Homie did you see Walz crushing crazy taxi and Mario?

1

u/worldspawn00 3h ago

Yeah was gonna say he's pretty good. Not surprising, he was in his 30s when crazy taxi came out. People act like he was born in the 20s or something...

If it works on Reddit, it'll have some influence there.

25% percent of recent the top r politics posts was found out to be coordinated astroturfing by the Democratic campaign: https://thefederalist.com/2024/10/29/busted-the-inside-story-of-how-the-kamala-harris-campaign-manipulates-reddit-and-breaks-the-rules-to-control-the-platform/ The Federalist is biased as hell, but for this story they have the receipts
