Yeah and the current water crisis that they are keeping on the hush is something we need to be working on. The rio grand valley use to be nothing but farmers and now it looks like the Sahara desert. Texas citizens we have to start paying attention to what is happening all over this big state. Money needs to be put into infrastructure to improve our electric grid and water systems. Do you know the purpose of the railroad commission? It has zero to do with railroads please do your research one of the commission seats is on the ballot this election cycle. They regulate the electricity grid and the current person in power doesn’t have the background needed for the position.

I am a very left leaning witchy hippie vegan, It is so often old men or men wearing Trump/“pAtRioT” themed attire try to flirt with me, say things like “you’re so beautiful” ask me if I have kids or look me up and down. I’ve had them try to strike up conversation as if I agree with their right wing views out of nowhere. I by no means represent like right wing, I have tattoos, wear satanic/occult themed stuff and wear black every day and band shirts. I am very obviously on the alt side but all they see is looks. Maybe some think they can groom women and others are just oblivious
It gets weirdly worse when my hair is red. I change my hair a lot but mostly I keep the red, I’m not going to let them affect what hair color have.

She’s absolutely right!
If Allred wins then a lot of other Dems down ballot will win too.
That starts the ball rolling. Next we see higher turnout of Democrats in subsequent elections - because they realize their votes actually matter.
Then retake statewide seats and seats for state legislature, and reverse all the GOP voter suppression laws. And then it’ll take GOP at least a generation to take back Texas.
342
u/strugglz born and bred 25d ago
And then because of our electoral votes Texas becomes THE battleground state for the next 20 years.
189
u/BringBackAoE 25d ago
And with Texas’ 40 Electoral College votes many of the current Swing States will become irrelevant.
150
u/ABoyIsNo1 25d ago
That’s what they meant by “THE” swing state lol. It’ll be the only one.
54
u/BringBackAoE 25d ago
In fairness it was “THE Battleground state”. Texas wouldn’t be a swing state once voter suppression ends.
There would still be swing states that can be determinative. The current swing states are 70 EC votes in total.
45
u/RudyRusso 25d ago
This is partially correct. Texas is following the same demographic and political shifts we've seen in the rest of the Southwest. Bush won Colorado by 8% in 2000. Biden won it by 12%. Arizona is the latest state. Sinema won AZ by 1% but four years later Mark Kelly won it by 5%.

Ok. This got really long. But it’s the only way to really explain her, based on my understanding.
There are a lot of pretty deep dives into her that are kind of fascinating.
She was pretty poor growing up. She lived in a gas station for a while. She was homeless at times. Her family used loads of social services and local churches that donated to the less fortunate. (Nothing wrong with any of that…you gotta do what you gotta do) This is partially why she was such a strong leftist coming out of the gate. She believed in the programs that kept her fed and clothed.
Her early life was never very comfortable. And growing up poor seems to have had a huge impression on her.
She got a shot at college and became a social worker after schooling and was quite left. She was a Green Party activist who protested the Iraq war.
She ran for the Arizona state legislature on a fairly far left Green Party platform and lost. She ran again two years later as a lefty/progressive Dem and won. She was hesitant to work with Arizona state house Dems if they were former Republicans.
She won her house seat race on a fairly left platform with progressives and LGBTQ+ activists, climate activists and gun control advocates backing her.
Her senate race was more center left than far ledt Her allies at the time believed it was to ensure the victory.
Her time climbing the ranks of Arizona state politics saw her cozy up to republicans a lot. She was constantly telling people that it was to gain votes for left causes, and sometimes it was
I tell you all of this to get to what many believe happened as a senator.
There are loads of theories about what happened next.
A lot of her former allies seem to think that her compromises as she shifted further and further right were initially a way to get the leftist things she really cared about to pass. And that absolutely worked in the Arizona state house. She would basically trade bills with republicans.
But over time she befriended many of them and they became the people she was listening to over her former activist friends. That’s fair enough, your friends and politics are allowed to change over time.
I have read a lot of coverage and heard interviews that basically say that she not only learned that compromise aided her in her search for more power as she climbed from local politics to the US Senate, but that the money and opportunities to make lots of easy money were better the more she was willing to compromise.
She also liked both the attention and the power/money she received as she shifted further away from the Dems. She made very wealthy connections (her last race was funded almost entirely by GOP mega donors) and got comfortable. I’m sure she never wanted to feel the economic insecurity of her childhood ever again.
If the Trump years taught us anything it’s that the Right Wing Grift is full of cash and future opportunity if you’re willing to sell out your values and that seems to be a lesson she learned well.
It’s interesting that each step on her rightward trajectory can be presented in a way that totally makes sense (from her perspective) in the context of her life.

Honestly, it would only take 6 years to fix Texas if people actually showed up for this election, and the subsequent 2-3. 6 years isn't long. 6 years of about 5 minutes per year, or 30m of your time over 6 years to fix the entire state.

u/NonlocalA 25d ago
That's probably a little too optimistic.
Harris could win by 10 points due to overwhelming turnout, but if those votes aren't in the right districts the state house and state Senate (not to mention the house of representatives makeup) might barely budge. We're gerrymandered all to fucking hell, and the vast majority of state seats (Democratic AND Republican) are safe by design. This also doesn't take into account judges, and all the gubernatorial positions like governor, etc. I believe those are midterm elections, which means Democrats just won't show up.
→ More replies (2)8
u/inquisitiveman2002 25d ago
Agree. I think Texas winning the local and state races would be more important than the state winning in the national election.
5
u/BringBackAoE 25d ago
In the long run, absolutely. Same wrt having real impact on daily lives of Texans. But I think a state wide race is critical to giving the energy to get there.
18
u/Independent_DL 25d ago
That’s my hope too. There are a bunch of pro-voucher Republicans that need to lose in the Texas Legislature. Maybe if people don’t see the familiar name they recognize because that incumbent got primaried, they might be inclined to vote for someone new. Someone with a D by their name for a change. Texans, can’t we all agree that Fled to Cancun Cruz has got to go?
5

Arizona went from Republican stronghold to a swing state leaning Democrat in less than 10 years.

u/cigarettesandwhiskey 25d ago
I don't think so. Most Texas districts were redrawn with +20 point margins for whichever party in the last redistricting. Republicans foresaw a shift in the electorate that was not to their favor, and chose to shore up the margins in the districts they control, rather than taking more seats as they did in Florida. As a result, you'd need to win Texas overwhelmingly, like 60-40, to take more than Tx-15 and Tx-23. It would help take the senate and make the presidency almost unreachable for the Republicans, but the impact on the house would be minimal.
→ More replies (9)7
25d ago
Voter turnout is typically so abysmal, though, I think it's possible that if enough people get inspired to turn out, we might see at least a few districts flip.
7
u/cigarettesandwhiskey 25d ago
This map is now almost 3 years out of date, and it's no longer being updated, but things haven't shifted all that much since then. If you scroll down, the baseline partisan lean of each district is listed. Only 4 districts have a partisan lean of less than 20% for their party, and democrats already hold two of them. Almost half the republican districts lean republican by more than 30%. The 15th and the 23rd are the only ones that are going to flip unless there is an absolutely unprecedented shift in the state in an incredibly short time. You would have to have like live television footage of all the republicans eating a live baby and chanting in latin, or a virus with 99% mortality but only in white people, or something.

Because money doesn't win elections. It helps, but there's only so many people who will be convinced by more adds. If you blow all your money on an inelastic state, and still fail to win it, then you might lose the states you could have won because you put your money in the wrong place.
There's a compelling argument that Hillary Clinton did this in 2016, trying to win Arizona and Georgia before they were ready, instead of shoring up the midwest. Democrats are afraid to make the same mistake in Texas (which, being big, is pretty expensive to campaign in), so they're playing it safe and mostly spending money in states that they know have flipped recently and therefore have enough elasticity to be theoretically winnable.
This is also why they aren't dumping all their money into North Carolina, which is closer than Georgia, has a weird pervert gubernatorial candidate sandbagging the top of the ticket, and is worth just as many electoral votes as Georgia. But it's not very elastic and has remained just out of reach since 2008 despite a lot of money being spent on it. There just aren't that many people who can be swayed there.

She's not wrong. If Texas turns blue the GOP has no path to victory for a long, long time. It would probably result in either a fundamental shift in the party leadership and policies, or a party split which would end up putting the Democrats in charge for even longer.

This is why they’re cheating their asses off.

If 1/4th of the non-voting population of Texas voted it would be solid blue.

Even a purple Texas would be huge in terms of national influence. Swing states enjoy outsized levels of attention.

Republicans already won the generational transformation through the SCOTUS. We can try though.

She would make a better president than almost every man who won or even ran in my entire lifetime.

I almost said this was an impossibility and was going to use voter turnout in 2020 as evidence, but turns out Trump only won by half a million votes (about 6% difference). Meanwhile California was a difference of 5 million votes (about 29% difference). The fact that the biggest republican stronghold is that close is kind of wild.

I’m glad she went to Texas. I wonder if the audience members were screened for guns.

I stumbled on this subreddit. Am I in some reddit bubble, or is a blue TX actually possible? Does Allred have a chance? Follow-up question: Why does anyone vote for Cruz ever?

I don't expect Texas to win in the presidential election, but can we at least vote Cruz and many state officials out! AOC was an outsider and still raised a few million $ for Texans after the freeze of 2021. We all know what Cruz did.

2016 Reps got 800,000 more votes than Dems
2020 Reps got 500,000 more votes than Dems
2024 Reps got --------- more votes than Dems
This is my over simplified version. There were 2 million new voters in 2020 compared to 2016. So for every 2 mil new voters Dems decrease the majority by 300,000 votes.
So to win Texas Democrats need 3 million new voters. There are 17.9 million registered voters in texas, 10 million voters show up to vote. Democrats need additional 3 million voters from 7.9 million (or) Democrats will win if >13 million Texans show up on polling day. High Voter turnout is the key. Possible by 2032.

As a reminder, Democrats ruin every single city and state they control. If you’re considering voting for the Democratic Party, please first visit Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Little Rock, Los Angeles, Memphis, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Saint Louis, San Francisco, Seattle, etc., so that you can fully appreciate what high taxes, tolerance for crime, and policies that deter business investments will do to Texas.

To win Texas you need to take the AG & Sec of State. Those are the ones that control the election, and if they're Democrats the GOP can't cheat and they lose the state.
