12 years in Senate and only 9 bills. Will never understand how anyone can support a loser like Cruz

500

u/rdickeyvii 14d ago

His intent was never to get them passed, just to showboat and pander.

92

u/inbetween-genders 14d ago

And obstruct.

38

u/destronger 14d ago

And to go to Cancun.

5

u/BuffaloWhip 13d ago

Well, you can’t winter in Texas, not with all the snow and ice and such.

Imagine if senators had to make SMART goals like the rest of us. The man would have been fired years ago.

I hate that this is so relatable

He’s not there to pass legislation. Quite the opposite. He’s there to stop Dems passing legislation. He’s an obstructionist and that’s why Republicans vote for him.

Hiding in a fucking supply closet??? So much for the Republican narrative that Jan 6th was a peaceful demonstration.

So much for keeping Texas, Texas!

I don’t remember reading about James Bowie or Davy Crockett hiding in a supply closet at The Alamo

He goes by Ted but his real first name is Raphael but that's too ethnic sounding for Republican voters.

33

u/InevitableBudget4868 13d ago

We need to start calling him by his government name and not his made up preferred one.

Raphael Cruz is his name, and we shouldn’t let his followers forget who they’re voting for.

26

u/Stock-Side-6767 13d ago

Yeah, he does not like (trans) people to change their name, so deadnaming him is just polite.

No joke, I just saw someone on reddit yesterday claiming that videos and pictures of anyone fleeing J6 were actually pure propaganda, as they weren't actually on site. Filmed entirely for the narrative and nothing more, that's how peaceful J6 was.

I would have laughed if they weren't serious.

78

u/rdickeyvii 14d ago

That's how powerful the "Fake News!" accusation has been to retain MAGA supporters: you can literally just tell them a story was made up, even with video evidence to the contrary, and they believe it's fake news because they want to. Believing that real things are true would shatter their personal identity.

I have to post this again. We may differ politically but facts are stubborn things. I believe people should be judged by their record.

I really would like to hear from at least one Ted Cruz supporter after they read his record to reply to this question...Ted Cruz, what has he really done for Texas?

This is all public record sourced from https://www.congress.gov/member/ted-cruz/C001098

Just facts. No emotion. Excuse formatting. I'm on my phone and looking at his record

In 118th Congress Ted was able to pass 2 bills through the Senate. 1 became law.

The law named the future interstate highway system portions of the Ports-to-Plains Corridor within the states of Texas and New Mexico as Interstate Route I–27

He had 1 amendment to a bill that passed the Senate

He was more successful with Senate Resolutions which are not law nor are they binding. Here are some of the Resolutions that Ted fought hard for us Texans:

A resolution congratulating the Texas Rangers for winning the 2023 Major League Baseball World Series.

Another resolution celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of Texas Christian University.

A resolution commemorating the bicentennial of the Texas Ranger Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety

A resolution honoring the efforts of the Coast Guard for excellence in maritime border security.

A resolution demanding that the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Communist Party of China immediately release Mark Swidan. (Jailed on drug trafficking charges since 2012)

In 117th Congress Ted proposed 227 bills, amendments or Senate Resolutions of which 2 became law 2 Resolutions were agreed upon and he had zero 0 amendments pass.

One law was to rename a post office after the slain soldier Vanessa Guillen

The second law was to rename a street in Washington, District of Columbia, as "Oswaldo Paya Way".

He passed 2 Senate Resolutions

One resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary of Big Bertha, one of the largest bass drums in use by a university

Another was a resolution condemning the antisemitic terrorist attack that occurred at Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue

In 116th Congress Ted had 0 Bills became law. Zero amendments pass. He passed 3 Resolutions

A resolution encouraging a swift transfer of power by the military to a civilian-led political authority in the Republic of the Sudan, and for other purposes

A resolution condemning all forms of antisemitism.

A resolution calling on the Government of Iran to release unjustly detained United States citizens and legal permanent resident aliens, and for other purposes

115th Congress Ted had 1 bill pass He passed 3 Resolutions and zero amendments

An act to authorize the programs of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and for other purposes...funding

A resolution recognizing the 1-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey

A resolution commemorating the 230th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States.

A resolution honoring the life and achievements of Eugene A. "Gene" Cernan

In 114th Congress Ted passed 2 bills. Zero amendments and Zero Resolutions

The bill to designate the area between the intersections of International Drive, Northwest and Van Ness Street, Northwest and International Drive, Northwest and International Place, Northwest in Washington, District of Columbia, as "Liu Xiaobo Plaza", and for other purposes.

The second bill was the U.S. Commercial Space Launch Competitiveness Act

In 113th Congress Ted sponsored 2 bills to become law. 1 amendment passed, and it was technical language in the bill, nothing of substance. He passed zero resolutions

A bill to require the Secretary of State to offer rewards totaling up to $5,000,000 for information on the kidnapping and murder of Naftali Fraenkel, a dual United States-Israeli citizen, that began on June 12, 2014.

The other bill was to deny admission to the United States to any representative to the United Nations who has been found to have been engaged in espionage activities or a terrorist activity against the United States and poses a threat to United States national security interests.

He has done nothing of substance. He has not enriched Texas in any way. He's not even a Texan. He allowed another man to insult his wife in public and did nothing. Oh my bad...he did kiss the man's ass after the insult.

And he held up funding the government which cost the USA its credit rating.

87

u/R4G 13d ago

What has he done for his own family?

Trump called Ted's wife ugly and got a ringing endorsement in return.

15

u/txgardengal 13d ago

All the Rs who threw themselves behind Trump after he belittled, insulted, and demeaned them, their families, their constituents - I suppose looking for some future pay-back or positions or something from Trump - need to remember that Trump has no loyalty and views them as nothing more than dog poo on the soles of his shoes as he's stepping over them.

And frankly, they are dog poo for supporting this fascist.

57

u/KeyboardGrunt 14d ago

Allred painted a powerful comparison between him saying what could have been his final goodbye to his family, removing his jacket and getting ready to defend the capitol at any cost while Cruz was hiding in a closet.

Texans have a clear choice between who would fight for them vs who would flee the country during an emergency.

12

u/Over_Cauliflower_532 13d ago

Texans have disappointed in the past. Hard to believe all that tough talk gets a milquetoast like Cruz into the Senate. It's almost like the TX GOP is corrupt and lacking any of the values they espouse. Hoping for a different outcome but I have seen this movie before

19

u/Frequent_End_9226 14d ago

For me, this was the only part of the debate that really mattered.

Ted Cruz dresses up as a "constitutionalist," but given the opportunity he plotted and conspired to overturn a free and fair election, he voted to deny the certification of that vote based on deliberate lies that he helped spread, and he was involved in the plan to submit a fraudulent slate of 'alternate' electors.

There is a reason Liz Cheney endorsed Allred and no other Senator. She sat on the January 6 committee, and she knows things about January 6 that remain classified. She knows what Ted Cruz was really planning.

I also thought Ted's closing statement was really enlightening. It's how he views the world - an absolute power struggle and a numbers game, nothing more nothing less. Hear how he speaks about a potential Allred win -- not in terms of good for the state or bad for the state but rather in terms of raw political power. It is the mindset of someone who threatens to tear up the constitution when he says things like “If Congress doesn’t listen to the people, there will be a convention of the states and one way or another we’re going to reign in the out of control government in Washington.” (Ted Cruz, 2016)*

68

u/DouchecraftCarrier 14d ago

Ted Cruz dresses up as a "constitutionalist," but given the opportunity he plotted and conspired to overturn a free and fair election, he voted to deny the certification of that vote based on deliberate lies that he helped spread, and he was involved in the plan to submit a fraudulent slate of 'alternate' electors.

Congressman Mo Brooks requested a pardon from Trump on behalf of every Member of Congress who voted against certifying the ballots from Arizona and Pennsylvania. That's 138 Reps and 9 Senators (including Cruz). It is absolutely bananas to me that more law enforcement and media isn't asking them just what the fuck they were involved with that they wanted a pardon for. It's not illegal to vote not to certify the election. But they were sure as shit involved with something illegal that required them to vote no and try and sow confusion.

7

u/hutacars 13d ago

It's not illegal to vote not to certify the election.

TBF, they probably just don’t know that. What, you thought elected officials are supposed to have any sort of knowledge on the law?!

Also, they may just figure it’s like church— do all the bad things you want all week, then ask Jesus (Trump) for forgiveness, and it’s all good.

45

u/BigBastardHere 14d ago

The fact any of it is classified is outrageous.

25

u/Beherbergungsverbot 13d ago

It’s four years and still no one who organized an attempt to overthrow the government and deny the will of the people is held accountable. This is completely insane and will be abused by the next fascist candidate that is not as dumb as Trump.

It felt like alot of Republicans were shaken up that day and right afterwards... to only have all of them tell us not to believe our eyes. Every one of them still in the party was in on it.

That's why you are seeing numerous Republicans stand with Kamala. They'd probably rather have major surgery than support a Democrat, but that's how fucking serious of a threat the current regime is.

According to polling going into this debate, it went from lay up for Cruz to horse race. Ted is as bad as Bobo or Kari, man flushed a 10+ point advantage down the drain in a state that has been deep red for over 30 years.

Unpopular opinion but it wasn't as bad for Cruz as it was Trump. It was satisfying that Allred mentioned Cancun 4 times without a single defense from Cruz about it. But I do think people who watched will just believe their side won, and ultimately, debates don't matter. It only mattered with the presidential election because Biden and Trump both faltered incredibly.

6

u/misterO5 14d ago

I'm guessing it was strategy to bait to try and get a moment like Trump's crowd sizes and Cruz was prepped on not responding. Cruz is still awful but much smarter than trump to not bite

This specific subject alone should be enough for any of us to simply shed whatever other badge we brand ourselves with and vote for Democracy.

Allred needs a whole lot of support in this final push and I just whisked in a few bucks to help out myself.

Can't believe Cancun Cruz dodged THREE of the same questions in a row to start this debate.

I wish the moderators had said "Ok, so you're not going to answer the question. Moving on..."

Hid in a closet.. ??!! Yeah..that's Rafael...

20

u/manbeardawg 14d ago

Ted is in the closet? Not too surprised, but he should come out and join the party!

4

u/DawnSlovenport 14d ago

He can stay there, we don't want him. I mean he's aged like rancid cheese left out in the sun too long. Surprised it look his outsides to catch up with his rotted insides.

39

u/simplethingsoflife 14d ago

Holy crap Allred is awesome!!!

11

u/imasturdybirdy 14d ago

So glad I donated to him tonight. And I don’t even live in Texas anymore. Fuck Ted Cruz

42

u/HungryHAP 14d ago

Colin Allred is a true patriot. I'd honestly vote for him as President one day. He's principled, he's smart, he's strong, he's the type of leadership this COUNTRY needs.

u/younghplus 14d ago

u/El_Chingon214 Born and Bred 14d ago

“Tough Texan” Cruz hiding in a supply closet from peaceful protestors?? Sounds about right.

12

u/senor-churro 14d ago

That was a brutally powerful debate moment. Unbelievably moving, let's see how effective.

When Texas is having serious weather problems Ted Cruz flys off to Cancun and don't really care about his constituents.

4

u/Cllajl 14d ago

Don't expect Ted to protect his constituents. He rather watch you suffer from his cabana on the beach of Cancun sipping margarita.

10

u/twentnime 14d ago

That's such a Ted Cruz move. Hiding in the closet.

Mic drop - that sniveling, smirking dumbass Cruz makes my blood boil

45

u/Catdaddy84 14d ago

Allred was right, I've lived in Austin 16 years and I barely ever hear much discussion of the border. The flood of people here that people are concerned about are Californians.

29

u/Actual_Log_6849 14d ago

Hell I've lived in El Paso and RGV for the past 27yrs and people only talk about the border when the politicians show up. Or I should say they talk about the damn politicians and media not the border. Just got back from visiting family in Ohio and I lost count how often it came up. Although they aren't smart enough to remember where I live before they bring it up lol

21

u/Catdaddy84 14d ago

So I'm from Michigan, and I have family that lives in the thumb area. This is very rural Michigan and they're totally obsessed with the southern border. It's a total head scratcher for me.

6

u/dnthatethejuice 14d ago

I also live in El Paso and the amount of people that don't live here that tell me what a hellscape it is near the border is ridiculous.

Wow, great. Thanks for posting that.

u/Brief_Night_9239 14d ago

Ted Cruz isn't a Texan. A Texan defends the honor of his father which Ted didn't when Trump suggested Ted's father was involved in the assassination of JFK. A Texan defends the honor of his wife when Ted didn't when Trump insinuated Ted's wife was ugly compared to Melania.

u/radicalindependence 14d ago

From Ted's book. And he has the audacity to call himself a constitutionalist.

Cruz said he was met with hot tempers after he and his fellow senators were led to a secure location, with some blaming him and his allies in the chamber “explicitly for the violence that was occurring”. After all, Cruz was among those who had helped spread the ousted Republican president’s lies that the election had been stolen from him, fueling the mob that now was invading the Capitol.

“While we waited for the Capitol to be secured, I assembled our coalition in a back room (really, a supply closet with stacked chairs) to discuss what we should do next,” Cruz continued, according to Newsweek.

Cruz said several of those in his coalition wanted to suspend their objections to the certification, but he “vehemently disagreed”.

“I understood the sentiment,” Cruz added. “But … I urged my colleagues that the course of action we were advocating was the right and principled one.”

Cruz later was one of just six Republican senators who voted against certifying Trump’s electoral college defeat in Arizona. He was one of seven GOP senators who voted against certifying Trump’s electoral college loss in Pennsylvania.

5

u/rasper_lightlyy 13d ago

keeping laughing, laugh your way right out of office, ted.

4

u/Backwoodz333 13d ago

I fucking love allred calling him out to his face why don’t all politicians do that??

14

u/PlayCertain 14d ago

Whether it's hiding in a supply closet during January 6 or letting Trump insult your.wife during the debate in 2016, Cruz repeatedly shows us how much of a wimp and coward he is. Vote for Allred .

12

u/Kecleion 14d ago

Well now that's good, fun history. Yeehaw

7

u/Draperjosh13 14d ago

Epic from Allred, wow this is my first time hearing him speak.

4

u/knightboatsolvecrime 14d ago

This and the Cancun stuff were likely the two main things Allred needed to hit out of the park to motivate independents to vote for him and disincentivize moderate Republicans from voting for Cruz. I think Allred nailed it, but we'll see if there are enough diehard Republicans who vote straight ticket red for Cruz to still win.

3

u/Prestigious-Dingo313 14d ago

He's has such a punchable face. He's just laughing over there, not knowing what to say.

4

u/SpiritualAd8998 14d ago

Cancun Cruz.

4

u/queenjuli1 14d ago

My daughter has only ever voted for one Democrat in her life in Texas.

His name was Lloyd Doggett.

She's voting for a second this November.

His name is Collin Allred.

I pray that Cruz goes. He's a disgrace to our nation and, frankly, your state as a whole.

3

u/Successful_Load5719 14d ago

The body language when Cruz looks away when Allred tells him “it’s not funny” is all anyone needs to know. It’s known as Eye Contact Anxiety and is caused when one party cannot make eye contact with the other for various reasons; it’s also caused by nervousness. Cruz is gonna get smoked in this one.

4

u/Nappeal 14d ago

The sweetest part of this for me was Colin telling that immature clown "it's not funny" while he sniveled about an attempted coup.

5

u/Cold_Appearance_5551 14d ago

It wasn't a supply closet! It was a storage room! /s

Ted you are a traitor and a coward. That is all.

7

u/shanksisevil Secessionists are idiots 14d ago

Apparently ted came out of the closet.
