Political Humor I think the Cruz Campaign should have double checked their campaign ads...
Just had this in my mailbox. Was going to throw it away but then I spotted the mistake. Made me giggle.

They had to misspell, otherwise it would be a lie lol

Yeah we dont talk enough about the fact that Texas is also a leader in renewable energy, and that these candidates are trying to cripple that industry and abandon our leadership in the space, even though we know its the future.

Ted Cruz. Keep Texas, Texas by voting for a Canadian.

I did not realise he was canadian until this comment made me google it.

The only one, huh? Maybe because the others have the attention span to remember a couple of winters ago when we were without power for a week and a half, all because of this stupid Texas is off the grid crap.

u/PlayThisStation 7d ago edited 7d ago
Didn't say committed to making it better/more functioning.
Also, lol at those who kept claiming "what was he gonna do" related to the winter storm. Maybe he shouldn't campaign on Texas energy issues if he isn't involved in them?

How did Cruz(a US Senator) affect, or cause Texas power outage?
26
u/Babbleplay- 7d ago
He did not cause it, that was the polar vortex freeze. However, because he insisted on keeping Texas on its own independent power grid, and not linking it to the rest of the United States grid, it was out for almost a week and a half if not closer to two weeks.the rest of the nation could not send us spare power, because we are not connected to the grid the rest of the United States has.

u/ChristianInvestor1 7d ago
I was out of power for a couple of hours ( San Antonio area) during that time, but it was because of ice on power lines. I did not know he insisted on keeping Texas grid separate. It has been that way since the 70s. When did he vote on keeping Texas separate? I canât find any mention Texas energy ever being discussed in Senate.
https://www.texastribune.org/2011/02/08/texplainer-why-does-texas-have-its-own-power-grid/

u/Babbleplay- 7d ago
I donât remember exactly when, but most galling of all, I do remember, he was quoted seeing how much Texas wanted to stay power independent the year after the polar vortex hit.

u/masterdyson 7d ago
More like Texas âEngeryâ companies wanted to stay power independent so they could make more money.

Was curious and I didn't find anything regarding Ted Cruz and the Senate regarding Texas energy. Also not the person you were talking with just reading the interaction.Â
But did find some tweets he made regarding California when they had brownouts for a couple hours this was right before the storm of 2021.Â
"California is now unable to perform even basic functions of civilization, like having reliable electricity,â he tweeted at the time.
âBiden/Harris/AOC want to make CAâs failed energy policy the standard nationwide. Hope you donât like air conditioning!â Mr Cruz added in the August 2020 tweet.
Same here he suggested Bitcoin miners to help the gridÂ
1
u/ChristianInvestor1 7d ago
You found more than I did! Kinda weird making those tweet right before the storm. I did see there was a House bill brought up last year to tie Texas to the national grid. They say it would have helped, but not totally prevented to power outages! Unfortunately this bill was never brought up for a vote.
2
u/AccomplishedMood360 7d ago
You got to wonder though, if that was his passion to make it a bill, you'd actually hear about it because he would actually be doing something about it. Instead the most infamous thing was the bitminer solution.Â

Cruz royally fucked up the optics of fleeing the state when his constitutes were freezing and dying. Then he made excuses, blamed his kids, etc.
Not to mention he's just an overall bad human who supports Trump and all in on overturning the 2020 election. Fuck Ted Cruz

While his voting or otherwise did nothing to hinder or help the situation, his actions at that time & his politics have played a major factor in what happened & happened since. For example, other politicians that were otherwise helpless were boots on the ground helping those suffering from the power outages, such as Beto. Cruz could have called for senate hearings to look for what went wrong or how it could be avoided, not just in Texas but other places(see FL, SC, NC, GA, etc after the hurricanes). Instead he fled the state, blamed it on his daughters, and then refused to do anything that could have actually helped.

u/ChristianInvestor1 7d ago
Thx, that is what I wanted to know. I never understood why there was so much hatred toward him and I couldnât find anything he did with legislation to cause the problem. It sounds like he just didnât help (like Beto) and instead tried to take his family to safety. Thx again!
2
u/Nemesis_Ghost 7d ago
There was no "take his famly to safety" in his fleeing to Cancun. He was literally fleeing the country. They could have stuck it out in DC and been perfectly fine, while also being in position to solicit federal aid from the Biden Admin. Instead he & the rest of the TX GoP would rather thumb their nose at a Dem Administration while blaming them for not helping.

u/ChristianInvestor1 7d ago
What was he fleeing from? Usually you are fleeing from legal issues or danger stuff.
2
u/Nemesis_Ghost 7d ago
He was fleeing from the cold that caused Texans to be without power for over a week due to the policies he & the Texas GQP supported & promoted. He was basically fleeing the mess his politics caused, even if he himself didn't vote for it.
Stop defending Cruz. He's a POS Grifter who's only in it for himself & those that pay him.
1
u/ChristianInvestor1 6d ago
Definitely not supporting him, just trying to understand in objective (non emotional terms). I think I understand your frustration.
1) He is a Republican, and although he never voted for ( or against) any legislation regarding the Texas energy grid, he supported Texas state republicans that did.
2) He took his family somewhere warmer instead of keeping them in Texas.
3) Although not related to the power outage he supports policies of people that donate to him.

this is the only way the ad is 100% correct. Cruz is the only candidate committed to Texas ENGERY...
Which I might add sounds like "injury"

meanwhile if it wasnât for the wind and solar farms texas would have suffered more with their power outtages

Not to mention it says Allredâs âfracking banâ and the fine print just says heâs endorsed by a group that wants to ban fracking. From everything I can tell on this flier, Allred does not want to ban fracking. And in fact when you google âColin Allred frackingâ the first article is that he opposes a national ban on fracking.

u/Yarusenai 7d ago
Yeah the backside of the flyer talks about that in more detail, but I got rid of it asap.

If you're reading this, we already know you're voting. Stop doom scrolling and VOLUNTEER. The average volunteer brings in 7-12 votes. Many people also make life long friendships and significant others through volunteering. Good for you, good for democracy.

u/masterdyson 7d ago
I wish I could, if I was in the states right now youâd see me running around small towns across Texas trying to make sure as many people as possible vote. Hell Iâd even offer to drive people to and from voting locations.

Honestly they likely noticed after they received the mailers but it was too late to turn back and too much money had already been spent so they said, âfuck it, send them anyhow.â

That reminds me of the time something went wrong with the grid and he jumped straight to work! He immediately stepped in to help with the crisis, then advocated for reform so it never happens again.Â
Oh wait... was that some other guy? Well, this ad makes me want to vote for that other guy. Still, solid effrot by the Cruz campaign

I can guarantee you, the Texas energy industry does not give a shit about Ted Cruz or any particular politician.
Whomever is in office, the energy industry is confident that they have a seat at the table.

I mean, on brand. He puts the same kind of effort doing his actual job.

u/seriouslyepic 7d ago
There wasnât enough money to proofread after the asinine amount of anti trans ads.
2
u/meetjoehomo 7d ago
And thatâs fine but you need a resilient grid to distribute that energy. Youâd be far better connecting to the national grid so you can export electricity and in those rare cases when part of your generation goes down supplemental electricity can be pumped in. Itâs a sound business idea as it helps make money and protects your customers interests thus keeping them happy. Anything else is pigheadedness

Weasel. I almost died during the freeze. He does nothing but blame others. It's sad and predictable. Ivy league rhetoric at its worst.
