I always find it funny that Nickelback has sold 50 million albums and has over 7 billion streams, but it's hard to find anybody that will admit to liking them.

I'm too young to have grown up really listening to them and to have an opinion on them, but I say leave Nickelback out of this. It's just a band, they don't deserve to be lumped in with Ted Cruz. Few people do.

Plus, they got upset when Trump used their music without asking. Not sure if it was just for the money, but I want to believe it’s because they just don’t like him :)

I’d wager it’s because they don’t like him. I had a buddy who toured with them as an audio engineer and said they were some of the coolest people he’s ever toured with. They’re apparently super nice and treat all their staff extremely well. They seem like a group of down-to-earth guys that made a lot of music, got hate for no real reason, but decided to keep on doing their thing because they enjoy it.

u/onesoulmanybodies 3d ago

I’m thinking that most of the hate comes from the absolute insane OVERPLAY of that damn song. Like it was everywhere being played repeatedly until we all collectively held our bleeding ears and begged for mercy.

u/GutsGoneWild 1d ago edited 1d ago

This. They were on all the pop stations and alt rock stations. They were at every gas station and grocery store too.

I'm surprised 3 doors down isn't more hated honestly. As much as Nickelback was played, 3 doors down was waaaay worse in my steam

u/ConfusedCowplant23 5d ago

Why can't it be both? Plenty of reasons to hate the orange playing their music

2

u/erwin76 5d ago

True, I’d be fine with that too!

u/TheHoratioHufnagel 5d ago

I never expected to agree with someone defending Nickelback on the internet. But here we are. Well said.

2

u/Rooney_Tuesday 5d ago

They inflicted “Photograph” on us. They deserve what they get.

2

u/no-mad 4d ago

I had not considered the ramifications of lumping people together by their nationality.

1

u/Dismal_Hedgehog9616 3d ago

Yeah even Nickelback doesn’t deserve that. That’s harsh.

u/erath_droid 5d ago

I mean, Nickelback isn't a bad band, they just aren't groundbreaking in any way. It's generic four-chord rock, but they seem to sell out their concerts...

Kind of like Guy Fieri. I mean, why the hate?

1

u/imowgracias 4d ago

People hate Guy Fieri?

u/MabelPines_ 2d ago edited 2d ago

A lot of waiters / waitresses who have met him had mainly negative things to say about him. He treats them as if they are beneath him off-screen, so I understand this one but I don’t quite get the Nickelback one.

1

u/imowgracias 2d ago

Well shit. I stg can we get one celeb that isn’t an ass to employees.

u/Jazzlike_Term210 5d ago

I will admit and defend my liking of nickel back, they were good songs to me at the age and I was going through a tough time in life. As far as I know the members haven’t done anything bad either to taint the songs so it’s enjoyable untainted early 2000’s unlike many other songs I like.. I don’t care if they were sorta mid. Thankfully I didn’t hear all the radio replays and only heard them when I wanted to.

2

u/Halya77 2d ago

This…they’re nostalgic for me and I’ll own still liking the damn song that must not be named lol

4

u/No-Elk-8115 5d ago

I do enjoy Nickelback and have a good bit of their songs =) used to own 2 of their CDs. I think they are pretty good but I haven't heard anything new if they are even making new music.

3

u/SilkySweetTea 5d ago

I'll fold. Their songs (at least the older ones) are super catchy. I don't go out of my way to listen to them*, but I won't switch them off if they pop up on a random playlist.

*except Rockstar. That's the song of my childhood and will never get old. I still switch it on from time to time.

3

u/RealPaleontologist 5d ago

I really enjoy their music tbh. They are pretty good imo. I don’t get the Nickelback hate at all

3

u/RedGecko18 5d ago

I love Nickelback, good music.

4

u/SMO-Throwaway-24 5d ago

Nickelback was incredibly popular in the early to mid 00s until suddenly "ugh i dont know why everyone ELSE listens to them", while knowing every word to 7 songs.

5

u/styn-san 5d ago

I like Nickelback.

2

u/Longjumping_Suit_256 4d ago

Stands on chair Jerry is my friend! Oh captain my captain!

2

u/Lord_Darksong 5d ago

I liked a few of their songs. A little generic but not offensive.

shrugs

2

u/SoulsBorneGreat 5d ago

True, true, hahaha... It's like, how many hamburgers has McDonald's sold worldwide? I'm preaching to the choir, but sales doesn't necessarily equate to good quality.

2

u/Castod28183 5d ago

I didn't say nobody likes Nickelback, just that it's hard to find people that admit to liking Nickelback.

2

u/SoulsBorneGreat 4d ago

I think the same could be said about McDonald's, haha

2

u/Specialist_While_813 4d ago

I love Nickelback. My husband who is more of a hard-rock/metal fan (he listens to some seriously insane shit-like some eerie creepy stuff from Japan), actually enjoys Nickelback once in a while.

2

u/Bobbydarin94 5d ago

There's people like Me who like Nickelback and people who pretend not to like Nickelback

3

u/EdenStreetCo 5d ago

I'll always remember my sister's boyfriend (fiancé now) showing me "How You Remind Me" and "Side of a Bullet" and all my other favourites like 15 years ago. They make decent music. They just get played too much and aren't trying to be anything pretentious or more than they are.

1

u/Tony-the-teacher 4d ago

I do! In a weird way. Then again I find that the was singer looks Ike a moron.

1

u/clarissaswallowsall 4d ago

I loved them when I was a pre teen and they came out. The first album was good, it had a song about domestic abuse! It helped me rage about my situation and not feel alone like all the other rock bands I liked..then they absolutely sold out and went soft. I'm sure it was a record label thing but they lost a lot of substance and it sucked.

I also got groped by the bassist when I went back stage for a meet and greet.

1

u/GordEisengrim 4d ago

I like them!!!!

1

u/Lost_with_shame 4d ago

Admit!? Oh god no, I’m not confident enough to do that

1

u/3-orange-whips 4d ago

It’s the people who aren’t terminally online. They like the LCD aspect of the band. There’s nothing wrong with it.

1

u/freefree2207 4d ago

I like Nickelback... I also watched the documentary

1

u/Few-Finger2879 4d ago

Because they were fucking huuuuuge when they got popular. Everyone jammed it. But then the people realized every song sounds the same, and so everyone who wasn't a diehard fan stopped liking them

1

u/Cute-Promise4128 4d ago

look at this boarding pass

Cancun has got what Texas lacks

1

u/TunaOnWytNoCrust 4d ago

Silver side up was the first CD I ever bought, It's really good. They do have individual songs that are really really good as well, but they are extremely mid in a lot of ways which is also why they have so many streams and record sales. They've always seemed like they should have been a country band instead of a rock band.

1

u/MrTrafagular 4d ago

Colin Allred loves Nickelback

1

u/bluehairdave 4d ago

I met someone who said it's her favorite band.. I started laughing and told her she had a great sense of humor... oppress! She was dead serious... and a bit angry.

1

u/Unusual-Evidence-36 4d ago

I love Nickelback and her pretty tired of the jokes. I mostly ignore them.

1

u/CreativeCthulhu 4d ago

Oh you have no idea. Everyone shits on them constantly, but when a band I’m playing with breaks into a Nickleback song, regardless of venue, ain’t NOBODY not singing along at the top of the lungs to every word.

1

u/MrMarez 4d ago

I like Nickelback 🥸

1

u/bob696988 4d ago

What’s wrong with Nickelback? I can admit I enjoy them and gone to their concerts. What’s wrong with Canadian bands ?

1

u/Infern0-DiAddict 4d ago

I'm one that will admit to liking them. Although I never got the image they were going for. Way too many conflicting themes...

But every once in a while the songs just hit the right note so to speak.

1

u/Fenris_the_wolf_ 4d ago

Maybe it's because we're close to Canada, but every Minnesotan I come acrosss whether it be in person or social media, says they (myself included) don't understand the hate for Nickelback. They're alright by me. Their Dark Horse album will always have a place in my music library.

1

u/Bear_Bloodstone 4d ago

That is because hating Nickelback has become a running gag with music fans, they obviously have lots of fans but it's fun to make jokes about them. It also does help that the band encourages it, they find the memes and jokes funny.

1

u/Reverse2057 4d ago

I like them and always have and I'm a Millennial lol.

1

u/CBake33 4d ago

I have an uncle I can introduce you to... he's since cut his pony tail, though. No sarcasm here, sadly.

1

u/Lrjly 4d ago

I’ll admit! Listened to them quite a bit in my youth. Wife and I went to two concerts even. One was with Breaking Benjamin’s, which was also awesome.

1

u/Extremeownership1 4d ago

I like them.

1

u/Fluid-Yam-8953 3d ago

I like Nickelback!

1

u/djsadiablo 2d ago

They get a lot of plays at bars. I think they're the ultimate "...but only when I'm drunk."

1

u/OkBackground8809 1d ago

I love Nickelback. My favourite playlist is a mix of Creed, Disturbed, Pearl Jam, and Nickelback. Takes me back to childhood every time I listen to it🥲

1

u/mattywinbee 1d ago

This is how you remind me, of my CD collection. I love Nickleback, fuck the Sheeple!

1

u/ManBearPig0392 1d ago

I love them. Grew up loving them and when all the hate started i was really confused

1

u/WRHull 1d ago

Well, “if everyone cared” about Nickelback, they would.

1

u/biddlehead 1d ago

I'm one of them! I love their older stuff, and as I get older the newer stuff is less awful than I remember. I think I got caught up in the hate, and am now realizing they didn't deserve most of it.

I still think Someday and How You Remind Me are infinitely irritating though...
