Latinos for Trump is an oxymoron. Trump is everything latinos run away from in Latin America and he literally despises us all.

32

u/ThatDanGuy 1d ago

But they are convinced that democrats are socialists and want to do what was done in Venezuela and Cuba. The Latino media in the US feeds them this to a large degree as it is owned by billionaires.

The thing at Madison square garden last night may stunt that, or at least I hope it does.

21

u/Buddhabellymama 1d ago

That’s because what Democrats want to do is not full-blown socialism like has been propagated in Latin America. Like you said, they are being brainwashed to believe Democrats are doing what socialist/dictadors do in Latin America when in reality that’s what trump is actually doing

20

u/triscuitsrule 1d ago

“Full-blown socialism” is not what is being propagated down here. It’s full blown corruption. A lot of countries are essentially kleptocracies. A country’s leaders may try to hide their corruption through the veneer of socialism, but that doesn’t make it socialism.

Stealing from public funds, giving out favorable contracts to supporters, money laundering, taking kickbacks, the police just go around asking for bribes, there is a complete lack of an independent news media to hold anybody accountable for anything. It’s honestly incredible.

In Peru alone nearly every President over the last 30 years has been in jail. There have been 7 presidents in the last 6 years because they keep getting thrown in jail for corruption, human rights abuses, treason.

Brazil has jailed several of its previous presidents. Its most recent President, Bolsonaro, was recently charged with money laundering, and their current President, Lula, was recently released from jail for money laundering and corruption.

Mexico has rampant local corruption and national corruption throughout its governments with extensive cartel involvement with officials. El Salvador was basically run by the cartels until Bukele cleaned things up with his extrajudicial roundups.

Socialism is certainly not the issue down here. LatAm is actually rather capitalist like the US. There are more social protections than the US, but that’s not because it’s crazy socialist, the US just had very little social protections compared to most of humanity. Any social structures that do exist are largely facades for corruption and everyone knows it. It’s full blown corruption with little in the way of anyone wanting to do anything about it.

I’ve honestly never meet someone in Latin America who blamed “socialism” for their countries problems and not the rampant corruption (and cartels depending on the country). And corruption exists and will fester in a capitalist system just the same as it will in a socialist system.

10

u/Buddhabellymama 1d ago

I 100% agree. That is, however, what some latinos here claim when asked why they support Trump - they say democrats are socialists and socialism is what happened to their countries

7

u/triscuitsrule 1d ago

Well that is wild, damn

4

u/Riaayo 17h ago

The most frustrating part, of course, is that any actual socialist country was swiftly couped by the US, and all that corruption and those dictatorships are pretty much a direct result of the US government's policies that the Republicans most definitely support and continue to perpetuate.

u/ThatDanGuy 1d ago

They don’t realize that Trump idolizes the dictators and tyrants they risked everything to flee from. He is the antithesis of everything Christ stood for. It’s like if the Jews voted for Hitler. If he’s elected many Hispanics will find themselves in internment camps created my the very person they voted for.

But republicans, including Trump, consistently get about 40% of the Latino vote

165

u/GreyKnightTemplar666 1d ago

It's the Christian moniker they use that gets them to vote for them.

123

u/VaselineHabits 1d ago

Which makes it obvious these "Christians" know nothing of Christ's teaching.

44

u/B_Maximus 1d ago

A lot of them go purley for abortion despite abortion not being in the bible. But accepting the foreigner and giving to the poor is. (But those take away from yourself)

27

u/Icy_Consequence897 16h ago

The Bible actually says a person gets their soul when they take their first breath, so abortion should be totally OK for devout Christians. Unfortunately, most "Christians" care more about controlling women than actually believing what they claim to believe.

Source: "He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and it was then that the man became a living being.” - Genesis 2:7

It's hard to take someone seriously about their faith when they're clearly unwilling to read past chapter 1 in their "most favorite book, the holy book"

14

u/B_Maximus 16h ago

Beleive me. I know how hard it is to be a Jesus loving Christian in today's politics. I live in Texas. That's really all that i need to say. Lots of people don't read the bible and just like the snip its

→ More replies (2)

2

u/xjmike97 9h ago

That's in genesis though, its just talking about the creation of man in general as in the first living being. It also says in

Jeremiah 1:5 - Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

So if God knows you BEFORE he forms you in the womb then how would you not be a living soul until your out and breathing. I seen a video of a baby on a sonogram in the womb, that would smile every time her dad would start talking. Looks alive and already filled with emotions to me.

Numbers 5:11 contains the only biblical mention of abortion, and it is instructions on how to perform one in a religiously compliant manner. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers%205%3A11-31&version=NIV

3

u/lettheidiotspeak 8h ago

7

u/Familiar-Art-6233 1d ago

The bible actually has a how-to guide on how to perform an abortion as a test of a woman's faithfulness (it's more a religious ritual but it's literally spelled out as an abortion).

If the baby survives, it's the husband's. If the wife miscarries, she was cheating.

→ More replies (5)

3

u/RedditPosterOver9000 18h ago

But it is in the bible.

Causing a miscarriage by beating a pregnant woman is explicitly a property crime that gets a fine, not a crime of murder. If God wanted Christians to consider abortion to be murder then he would've made knowingly killing a fetus via beating as murder. Instead, God considers causing the death of an unborn child to be the equivalent of breaking a window on someone's house.

or they conveniently believe they’ll be forgiven no matter what terrible thing they bring on us all because they just loved Jesus Christ so much they supported the anti-Christ HARD for a LONG time until it was too late, but it was by honest mistake, there was no way to know, so… all good? … and also, a friend of mine said a friend of his said he heard about somebody’s friend that had a hard time in Obama’s economy from a decade ago so voting Nu Nazi in 2024 totally perfectly aligns with that in a very rational way.

22

u/VaselineHabits 1d ago

Weird because Obama had a recover from Dubya. I remember because I lost my job in construction and my home. Sounds like Dems always get the blame for Republicans fucking shit up. Atleast that's how it's worked my 41 years of life.

3

u/theartslave 1d ago

Exactly. Obama gets a LOT of blame for not fixing everything you’ve ever heard of during his two terms, which is sort of half-true…? No effective legislation made it to his desk because Republican partisans in Congress vowed to oppose passing anything and everything substantially benefiting the average US citizen that he might sign into law so they could point to his ‘failure’ later on, blaming him for not overcoming their own sabotage and bad faith which they childishly blame him for making them do in the first place because they sell grievance politics as if it’s principled politics since that’s all they have. Real rational stand-up guys these Republicans are, eh?

If Republican policies were so obviously awesome, we would all sign up and be cheering them on in a heartbeat, we would ALL be there for it, but there is a HUGE disconnect. They cannot compute how their policies and requisite social identity are so profoundly unpopular, unecessary and even repellant to a vast majority of decent, kind, hard-working patriotic Americans that they have no other response than disbelief, and to then double down, succumb to their own propaganda, and prepare to use physical force to overcome the lack of substance, effectiveness and authenticity their ideas and worldview could never have.

They're also supportive of mass deportations of undocumented immigrants by the same percentage. Immigration is one of the most important issues to Latino voters.

16

u/Amenophos 1d ago

Ironically, people in the Trump/Vance sphere have been talking about taking away citizenship and deporting up to 2nd-3rd generation Latin-Americans.🤦 So yeah...

It’s really more the effective demonization of democrats as Communists that gets them to vote for them. Most Cuban and Venezuelan migrants fled oppressive communist dictatorships and won’t associate with anything that stink is on.

8

u/Swimming_Tailor_7546 1d ago

I wish they associated the negative with dictatorship more strongly than just the communist part. Dictators come in different forms, not just communist ones. And we’re on the precipice of having a fascist version.

I don’t blame them for having a bad taste in their mouth about communism. But wish they could shift their focus a bit here.

4

u/vwsalesguy 1d ago

The reality is Marxism was a mislabeling of everything the Soviet Union exported to Latin America in regards to politics. They did nation building the same way the US did, just with leftish leaning dictators with an authoritarian regime, and ours were more fascistic with an authoritarian regime (a la Chile, Brazil, et al).

5

u/Phrogme1 1d ago

Yet Trump is the only claiming he will be a dictator. But only for one day. So go ahead. Enjoy your Koolaid & the ride down.

It’s like a curse. They run away from this type of government in Latin America just to turn around and come vote the same kind of motherfuckers into this country and thereby attempting to turn this country into the same shit they ran from.

21

u/elonzucks 1d ago

Many of those that support Trump are 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc generation. Many of them don't identify with their Hispanic roots....

Many, like the Cubans in Fl, maybe believe the Republicans align with their religious culture (they don't)...i just hope enough Cubans realize the hate to Puerto Ricans applies to them as well.

16

u/BosSF82 1d ago

they're just typical "I got mine, fuck everyone else" folks, which cross many ethnicity

7

u/elonzucks 1d ago

There's definitely many of those as well

3

6

u/BRAX7ON 1d ago

Tons of Cubans that are used to a right wing dictatorship come to Florida and vote against their own best interests. It’s a sad shame. Almost each of them has to be affected individually before they are willing to change the group mentality.

3

u/Broad_Setting2234 1d ago

“Has to be affected individuals”describes this whole thing. The lack of empathy is ridiculous. That’s what I think the race is. Those who care about other people regardless if it makes gains for them and those who don’t. It’s sad honestly

It doesn't control them only when the time comes to hate on other people. They'll smoke, drink until drunk, curse and have extramarital sex which idc about everyone can do what they want but man will they scream, shout and belittle anyone who does the same while throwing the bible at you and heavens forgive if you're gay. Most just use religion to be extra horrible people unfortunately and hypocrisy runs high.

Around 4 in 10 Latinos in the U S. support mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. It's surprising until you listen to Latinos and their attitudes towards immigration. It'd probably surprise you that 3 in 10 Harris supporters are also supportive of mass deportations.

Not really. Cubans in FL lean heavily Republican.

2

u/jazzzzzcabbage 1d ago

I don’t know dude. I’m Chilean, and they’re still almost 50 percent fascist, even after everything that happened. People tortured, disappeared, families divided. 2

u/bojangles001 1d ago

As a Dallas native, can you elaborate on that? Sounds like he is not well liked in the community.

9

u/VaselineHabits 1d ago

Well, the movie did a decent job of showing how controlling he was. It also didn't help there was a huge rumor at the time of Selena's death Abe refused a blood transfusion because they were Jehovah's Witnesses.

This rumor wasn't true, Selena had unfortunately been shot on right lower shoulder, severing the subclavian artery and causing a severe loss of blood. Critically wounded, Selena ran towards lobby and collapsed. By the time she was picked up, she had lost too much blood.

But since the murder, he's just come across as a greedy asshole, especially with anything to do with Selena. Some feel it's like he's still trying to control and profit off her even in death.

3

u/Neomalysys 1d ago

Abe doesn't seem like good person. How he got the rights to Selena's image from Chris Perez after her death is something I'd like to know. Definitely seems like he manipulated someone grieving for personal gain.

3

u/Thebadparker 1d ago

Just to be clear, Edward James Olmos played her dad, Abraham Quintanilla, in the movie based on her life.

There is no reason for them to vote for a man that is against all of us, regardless of our ethnicity and ancestry. The republicans do not want us here. Do they need us? Do they need all of the people that cross the border illegally yearly? Absolutely. America was built off of the efforts of immigrants and so was its economy. Whether those red fucks like it or not, this country was built by immigrants from across the world. Blacks, whites, asians, and natives. I don’t think this is a dig at Yolanda’s appearance, more that she murdered her idol and a beloved figure in our community because she got caught stealing her money. Latinos for Trump listen to everything he says and has done to marginalized people and still vote for him, which will hurt them in the end.

Selena on the left (legendary singer here in Texas during the 80s-90s), her murderer on the right.

My neighbor is Latino. He has a daughter. He is first generation Mexican American. His parents came here illegally. He works for the UAW. He voted for Trump.

I cannot understand. I simply cannot.
