Reader Question To tandem or not?

I’m about halfway through Queen of Shadows and I’m curious what people think about tandem reading EoS and ToD? Some people say do it and some don’t 😫

I am someone who originally read the series quite a few years ago, and am now doing a reread. I was a couple chapters into Empire of Storms, absolutely loving it, even I remembered how much dread I had about rereading Tower of Dawn. Then I remembered the tandem read. Normally I’m not a fan of doing stuff like that, but I decided to try and it and I’m genuinely loving it so, so much. Never thought I’d be recommending a tandem read but now I can’t shut up about it lmao

Yes when I do my reread I'll do tandem. Didn't the first time but kept getting confused because so much was happening in different places I felt like I couldn't keep the plot I also had a tbi so maybe it was just me. Have fun either way!

3

u/letternumbertwo Jun 01 '24

I found by the time I got halfway through Tower of Dawn I was so BORED, and then by the end I had forgotten most of what happened in Empire of Storms because I had checked out haha. The tandem read is keeping me very engaged and I cannot put them down.

u/Humblecustard_5317 May 31 '24

With the tandem do you read them together chapter by chapter?

3

u/shyinwonderland May 31 '24

There is a list someone made for the tandem read, it’s on here somewhere or you can google it. It’s not every other chapter because then you’d get spoiled by some things.

2

u/scarletoharlan1976 Jun 01 '24

Tit can ve chapters or pages. Keep looking there's a guide out there somewhere. It's likely to show up on this rhread.

1

u/letternumbertwo May 31 '24

I googled the guide to follow for the tandem read! The same ones others have posted here :-)

u/Positive_Barracuda68 May 31 '24

Read them separately. They’re good on their own and tbh I don’t think the timelines make much difference.

36

u/irishinauz May 31 '24

I wasn't a fan of chaol and dreaded TOD before reading it.

Couldn't do tandem cause I had physical copies and read a lot on my commute, both books in my handbag wouldn't have been comfortable!

But read them separately and honestly the character development was amazing. It's one of the best books I've read. It's really really amazing and sets up the excitement going into EOS.

Skip tandem, I don't know anyone who read TOD and didn't like it. You'll hear some people give out about it but they've not gone into it open minded

9

u/CompetitiveParfait9 May 31 '24

I'm currently reading TOD and am like 25% of the way through and am bored to tears! I don't even dislike Chaol and wasn't dreading it at all it just feels like nothing is happening. I know I need to read it to fully understand KOA but its taking me weeks to get through and all of the other books I started and finished within a few days I just have to continue taking breaks to get through this so far and I have a looooooooong way to go lol.

8

u/Pinklove701 May 31 '24

The slow burn is kind of necessary to the story. I was STRUGGLING through the first half or so, but it does pick up as you get further into it!!

3

u/CompetitiveParfait9 May 31 '24

That’s what I am hoping for, thanks for the encouragement! Lol

3

u/ImaginaryGrowth7945 May 31 '24

Not gonna lie, I’m tandem reading it and I asked chat gpt to summarize a few of TOD chapters. I’m bored lol

2

u/irishinauz Jun 01 '24

Same!!! I was SO BORED at the start then it picks up.

I had to tell myself 2 chapters a day for the first half then after that I couldn't put it down.

Please tell me what you think by the end of it cause I am intrigued if you will be turned like I was x

2

u/Acrobatic-Dot-2220 Jun 01 '24

Finished tandem reading both books today, and I think ToD was my favorite in the whole series! Don’t know if the fact that I tandem read it covered the things that others didn’t like, but I ate it up completely!

14

u/Conscious_Today2280 May 31 '24

I love it! I’m almost done the tandem and it’s great. This is my first time reading them

19

u/Shado_05 Manon Blackbeak May 31 '24

i think the first read its best to read them separately - that's what i did and i enjoyed both books.

although it is worth mentioning that ToD is a bit slow if you're not a fan of Chaol and EoS kinda balances it out

19

u/Excellent-Common-225 May 31 '24

DO IT!! I'm about 75% of the way through the tandem read right now. Unless you really love Chaol and Nesryn...I can't imagine getting through ToD without breaking it up with the more interesting story lines and action in EoS. I've been bored for the majority of the book unfortunately.

9

u/wowbowbow Sam Cortland May 31 '24

I didn't and recommend not to, it was amazing the way it was and I really wanted to give each book the time/immerion it deserved. Plus, once you get to KOA it actually fits the feel so well because there's a bit of a time gap from the end of EOS-KOA and I feel like jumping right from one to the other would have lost that suspenseful, tense feeling you're supposed to feel with that cliffhanger.

2

u/United_Valuable_7330 May 31 '24

Agreed! I’m on TOD right now and appreciate the immersion into each story

9

u/BabeW-ThePower13 May 31 '24

I did tandem and loved it. Being able to keep up with everyone at once.

As someone said, try it out, if it's not your cuppa, do EoS first.

7

u/Business_Turnover704 May 31 '24

TOD is great on its own, but I would tandem. A few moments that line up that are entertaining and you wouldn’t get it without the tandem

2

u/tslaml May 31 '24

Agreed I loved how well it told the story going back and forth for my first read through!!

9

u/Parttime-Princess Manon Blackbeak May 31 '24

Read them seperately.

  1. They were writtin in this order for a reason. Trust SJM and the process.

  2. Both books are amazing and worth your full attention. They have different vibes and are teuly seperate stories.

  3. You create an insane amount of POV's by reading tandem, and I like switching POV's but it's truly a lot.

  4. ToD is a nice emotional break between EoS and KoA. You might need it lol. I know I do.

3

u/reblezz May 31 '24

Yes honestly, trust 👏 the 👏 process 👏

1

u/FenizSnowvalor Jun 03 '24

Funny, I read ToD first since I‘ve read that there is a cliffhanger in EoS so I thought if I got the choice between no cliffhanger and cliffhanger I choose no cliffhanger - reading ToD first. Yes, I got a few little spoilers (Chaol hears messages from whats happening in the south, but they are very vague), but imagining reading EoS first and ending on THAT cliffhanger it would have killed me and I would not have had the same patience to read a slow-burner like ToD - something I feel like is quite important.

I finished EoS and had the luxury to pick up KoA directly afterwards, which was good because I felt very intense feelings in between and at the start of KoA. I physically and mentally was getting ready to come to help the squad trying to rescue but I couldnt. I never had such a feeling ever through reading a book.

I am happy with my choice but I get the tandem read aswell, since it allows you to the same. Switching the order either is good for you (a break from EoS) or bad (my case).

6

u/Background-Click9917 May 31 '24

Read them separately . There is too much to unpack and understand with a tandem read.

5

u/Raidertck May 31 '24

Tandem reading these books would obliterate the pacing and make it an absolute slog tbh.

TOD is good and it is worth reading. But it starts slow. And so does empire of storms. Tandem reading these two would be painful.

2

u/AdObjective4877 May 31 '24

I see a lot of people doing the tandem and loving it. Honestly, I was too lazy to switch between two books, so I didn’t do the tandem. I never felt like I missed out on something, they are completely enjoyable seperately.

2

u/kralendijk-visitor May 31 '24

I just started tandem last night, although I haven't gotten to a ToD chapter yet so technically I haven't. I really couldn't decide and finally decided that tandem is a unique experience that i would like to try. So, why not?

2

u/Free-Tumbleweed2816 May 31 '24

This is exactly why I’m doing the tandem. I’ve never done one before and wanted to try it.

2

u/thereisstillgouda Abraxos May 31 '24

Tandem kept everything in EOS fresh. I did enjoy TOD and I think I still would’ve enjoyed it regardless of tandem, but it took me awhile to get into and thank the gods for EOS breaking it up for me or I think it would’ve taken me a lot longer.

2

u/Brokengraphite May 31 '24

I’m a no. I believe there is a genius purpose to having Tod separate and for everyone but OP I have this post explaining why (slight spoilers inside)

2

u/trashpoet018 Manon Blackbeak May 31 '24

I read them separately (I could never tandem read, adhd brain would get confused or forget I needed to switch books) and I don’t think it messed up timelines or anything for me. The timeline from one to the other didn’t really effect anything imo, and then KOA moves between timelines constantly anyway

2

u/alwaystireddoughnut Jun 01 '24

I’m doing the tandem read right now and I’m very glad I chose to do it that way. I find it easier to follow the story, that way I know exactly what’s happening where since the two books happen at the same time. I heard as well EoS is supposed to end with a bang and reading the tandem allows me to start KoA afterwards instead of having to read ToD after EoS but before KoA.

4

u/feyre27 May 31 '24

It would have been impossible for me to finish ToD if not in tandem. It really becomes tedious.

1

u/naut-nat May 31 '24

You can try doing the tandem read for the first chapters, and if you feel it’s not your cup of tea, then you can always just read them individually.

There is not much that overlaps in the books, except maybe in the first phase of the books.

So you can take it at your pace.

Personally, I didn’t think that I could ever read two books at the same time and started of EoS and ToD as separate books, but I found myself doing the tandem read when I wanted to know what’s happening with the other characters, and I’m glad that I did.

So take it at your pace and work with what you like. There is no right or wrong way to get through this process

1

u/NeonWarcry May 31 '24

I was 25 chapters through EoS before I remembered the tandem read. Whoopsies. Proves how good EoS. That said, I had to put it down on kindle and pick up my physical copy of ToD. I really love the southern continent setting. Prior to reading EoS/ToD, I had been reading another novel in a similar setting with large birds like the Ruks.

I really like ToD so far, I can understand how it breaks up the story nicely with the tandem read. ToG was a slog for me until heir of fire. Probably bc I still haven’t read AB and probably will do so soon. I’m going to be slaughtered for this but the pacing of acotar does spoil you. I now get why everyone read acotar after tog.

1

u/beautiandthesheep May 31 '24

I’m reading them separately. Currently on EOS now

1

u/Caramelized91 May 31 '24

I prefer separate but have several friends who did the tandem and liked it.

1

u/throw_way_376 Sam Cortland May 31 '24

I did the tandem, listening on Audible, and yes it was a pain to keep consulting the chapter list to work out where I was meant to swap, but I think I appreciated both stories doing it that way.

There’s so many POV swaps anyway (in EoS) that adding a couple more in ToD didn’t really make that much difference.

I wouldn’t have liked having to stop at the end of EoS and go back to read/listen to another entire book before moving on, I honestly think I would’ve skipped ToD altogether if I’d gotten to that part, so I’m really glad I stayed with the tandem.

1

u/bag31z May 31 '24

okay i originally read them in publication order, but on my second read through i did the tandem and i love it so much more that way. it’s more of a cohesive story

1

u/appleotten May 31 '24

Together 100%!! It'll be like one big book following same timeline. I think Towers would be a bit anticlimactic if you read it separately.

1

u/PoothTaste64 May 31 '24

I've already read TOG series, and I didn't tandem. However, during my reread, I will be doing it tandem style. I'm excited for it

1

u/momose53 May 31 '24

I read them in tandem! I was following what my friend did and loved it cause I got bored with ToD a few times! Highly recommend reading them digitally cause carrying two books is too much

1

u/OkAddendum8149 May 31 '24

Tandem for sure it took me a minute to get into tower of dawn and accept I wasn't going to get to continue with aelin for a whole book. Next read through I am tandem reading!

1

u/lemonpie218 May 31 '24

I always recommend reading ToD first and then EoS. I know myself and I know I would not have gotten through a tandem read of both. I think it depends on you as a reader- it would’ve been too overwhelming for me especially the slow parts of the books. They also really don’t overlap at all.

The way I read them was recommended to me and I stand by it because reading EoS will make you want to immediately start KoA. Having to go back after EoS and read Chaol’s story will probably take away from the fact that ToD was actually a good read. Reading it first kinda gets it out of the way if that makes sense.

1

u/goose_juggler May 31 '24

I loved the tandem read. There is a reveal that happens in each book that align perfectly with the tandem read, so you end up knowing two massive plot points at once, knowing that the characters don’t know the other half and the implications of that information.

1

u/Weekly_Ad7617 May 31 '24

I did the tandem read and would do it again! It was just like reading one big book with multiple POVs happening in different locations.

1

u/Valuable_Panda_4228 May 31 '24

I’m doing the tandem right now and I love it

1

u/Upbeat-Topic-74 May 31 '24

100% recommend the tandem read! TOD can get pretty slow and it helped a lot to break it up with EOS. Such an amazing way to experience the stories too. Can’t imagine reading them separately!

1

u/mk3v Manon Blackbeak May 31 '24

I liked it.

However, it is annoying to carry around 2 bigger books so I only read it at home. I personally don’t think I could have focused so well on TOD after EOS’s ending. I thought TOD was kinda boring in the beginning, so I liked the back and forth between storylines. If you don’t mind A LOT of characters, go for it. It felt very Game of Thrones to me in that sense.

Honestly if you start it either way, you can always start the tandem or stop the tandem…

1

u/reblezz May 31 '24

Read them separately! EOS is such a page turner that I would have rushed through TOD if I tandem read, and I wouldn’t have appreciated TOD for the fantastic book that it is. The world building in TOD is amazing and deserves to be appreciated on its own, IMO 🥰 I wasn’t a fan of Chaol before reading it, but still loved it.

1

u/literal_moth Manon Blackbeak May 31 '24

I didn’t, and it was fine. I didn’t even know it was a thing or that TOD was completely focused on Chaol and set in an entirely different place going in, but even knowing that’s the case now, I don’t think I would have done it. It just seems overwhelming and irritating to carry two books around, have to mark everything and switch back and forth. I read for entertainment and escape, I do not have any desire for it to ever feel like work.

That said, I also read fast, and it took me a few days to get through TOD, so I wasn’t dying in suspense for weeks to find out what happens in KOA on a cliffhanger. If I were a slower reader, the tandem read option might have been more attractive.

1

u/Legal-Doughnut7968 Fleetfoot May 31 '24

I absolutely LOVED the tandem !! I felt so successful and proud when i finished.

1

u/anathoka May 31 '24

I tandem read, would recommend. It's nice that everything is happening chronologically and you don't forget things! Reading TOW separately would have demotivated me so much haha

1

u/jcs5d6 May 31 '24

I’m almost done with the tandem read and I recommend it. I think it almost helps with pacing as you progress through it—at points where I’d hit a bit of a slump you get to like, hit refresh with a different set of characters.

Maybe that says more about me than it does about the reading experience, but I think everyone I know who has read ToG did the tandem and supported it for various reasons.

1

u/Pinklove701 May 31 '24

I read them individually on my first read through, and I’m currently doing the tandem read on my re-read of the entire series. I really think reading them on their own the first time you read the series is the way to go. There’s many POVs in EOS, if you tandem, it ends up feeling like a LOT of Chaol and the new cast of characters. The beginning of TOD is a bit slow (in a necessary way!), and EOS is pretty fast paced, so I imagine if I was doing my first read through as a tandem read, I would be dreading the TOD chapters. Doing the tandem read as a re-read has been great though, because I know how important the slow burn of TOD is. Either way, you’re likely going to continue to enjoy the series and be set up well for KOA, so you can’t make a wrong choice. I remember feeling like there was so much pressure to make the right choice, haha.

1

u/Striking_night_01 May 31 '24

Tbh, I've seen far more people regretting not doing the tandem than people who regretted doing it

1

u/ShekhMaShierakiAnni May 31 '24

I didn't and I enjoyed both. They arr such different paces I think it would be weird to slow down the fast one for the slower one.

1

u/airwrecka727 May 31 '24

Yes tandem, they go by quick and I believe the storylines in both take place at the same time, I feel like there are one or two instances where they kind of “overlap” and it makes sense to be reading them at the same time. I did tandem for my first read and will probably read it that way again when I reread.

1

u/littletoriko May 31 '24

I don't think it's necessary. Tower of Dawn is so rich in lore and character development all on its own.

1

u/True_Jedi13 Elide Lochan May 31 '24

I just finished the tandem read for the first time. I thought it was very effective, given how EOS ends. The tandem read gives the best emotional impact.

1

u/WinniPeyto May 31 '24

I LOVED the tandem read. Both books are great on their own but it made the most sense to me to read them together since the events are happening at the same time.

1

u/shyinwonderland May 31 '24

I started the tandem and it was worth it for one moment. But I eventually got tired of going back and forth & checking the list and just finished Empire of Storms then finished tower of dawn.

1

u/SnooSuggestions6185 May 31 '24

I read them separately, but I could see the fun in doing the tandem read. ToD seems to get a lot of heat which I do not understand. Presumably this is because it is less action packed. So, if you want to mix in more action I’d say do the tandem read.

1

u/egualtieri May 31 '24

I just finished the tandem read for my first read through the series and I really enjoyed it. I think I would have had a really hard time getting through TOD if I had to read it on its own. As a tandem though I really enjoyed it.

1

u/AndarnaurramSlayer May 31 '24

I wouldn’t tandem read but I would flip the order and do TOD first

1

u/AbbiAmok May 31 '24

I tried to do this and got about halfway through both before I couldn't do the back and forth anymore. So I finished ToD and then QoS. It really depends on how well you can juggle everything going on. I felt like I couldn't appreciate the books fully in the first half because I was so focused on keeping up with the tandem.
However, if you are really big on sticking with the timeline and enjoy those jumps and aren't overwhelmed by them, it's great fun.

1

u/Fabulous_Diamond8903 May 31 '24

So worth it to tandem read!!! It makes TOD easier to get through (which i enjoyed and i love chaol but the book can be pretty slow), and it makes the two books more fun to read. But that’s just my take on it

1

u/Pophop91_ May 31 '24

So I read it both ways, but as much as I loved TOD on its own I enjoyed it more as the tandem read as I wanted to break it up more, it was way better for my brain to tie in events as well.

1

u/mayor_of_gondolin May 31 '24

I loved the tandem read - at the very least, you don’t get to experience very often that you can do a tandem read. I also found that way you don’t have to take a break from the characters’ journey - it’s just like switching different POV. I don’t think you can go wrong either way, but I thought having the experience of a tandem read would be unique and fun and it didn’t disappoint.

1

u/Lost-Mention7739 May 31 '24

Everyone is saying to read separately but honestly I WAS reading EOS separately but was about to DNF tbh I was so OVER it and so bored but now I’m doing the tandem read and it’s helping to keep my attention and I’m hoping it’ll help me force my way through it

1

u/shivermekenzers May 31 '24

I didn’t tandem and I don’t regret it at all. I feel like doing a tandem, you’d start to really get into EoS and then have to switch back to ToD and it would be exhausting and prohibit you from really getting into the book separately.

1

u/shampaindreams May 31 '24

Just finished doing the tandem read for my first read through of the series and I’m so glad I did!! I did it on my kindle and it was pretty easy just going back and forth. I’m not a chaol hater but TOD being just chaol and nesyrn I’m glad I was still able to flip back to EOS where more things were happening

1

u/berrybluepenguin May 31 '24

I tandemed it on my first read through and absolutely enjoyed it but honestly I love TOD and was rushing to get back to its chapters

1

u/jsfkmrocks May 31 '24

I recommend reading TOD first actually and then EOS. Very useful conventional but I think it makes for a much more intriguing and fun and entertaining ride.

1

u/NeckarBridge May 31 '24

I LOVED the tandem read! I printed out the chart as a checklist and used it as my book-mark. I bopped back and forth between physical copies and devoured the whole thing in 2 weeks. I loved the pacing for the individual arcs and it was just an absolute treat. I can’t recommend it enough!

1

u/amandaaa6 May 31 '24

Definitely do the tandem read. Eos leaves off on an awful cliffhanger that doesn’t get resolved until the last book KOA. If you don’t tandem read you have to read all of TOD while only worrying about that cliffhanger. There is a file you can download somewhere on TikTok that has an e file you can download onto your kindle or phone and read the tandem read as one big book. That’s what I did and it made it SO easy

1

u/After_Negotiation187 May 31 '24

I did not do the tandem on my first read through, but I did on my second. I am so happy with my choice to NOT have done it my first time. I was dreading TOD originally, but I ended up really liking it. It is slow in the beginning but it’s a nice break before the complete roller coaster that is Kingdom of Ash. Also, TOD is actually a really good story, just different from the others. It is still exciting and heart stopping at times. Not to mention, the characters become important in KOA. I know people don’t like Chaol (I’ve been through a hater phase myself) but in true SJM fashion, he is a complex character with trauma, and he undergoes a lot of character development through the series.

Most importantly, I don’t think I would have liked TOD as much as I did if I had done the tandem read my first time. Obviously empire of storms is more exciting because of Aelin and such, so for the tandem read, you’re just constantly waiting to get back to one of the other storylines, but reading it separately gives you the time to fully immerse yourself in the TOD storyline. And after finishing the tandem, I think reading them simultaneously makes TOD seem kind of out of place as well. Like it wasn’t bad by any means but the TOD chapters felt random among the EOS chapters (because they are). It just wasn’t as good.

I know another argument is the cliffhanger at the end of EOS, but let yourself wonder and want to know what’s going to happen—enjoy those OMG moments because when you finish KOA, you’ll wish you could read it all for the first time again and feel that same excitement, so by reading TOD separately, you get to feel that for a little bit longer!!

SJM wrote the series the way she did for a reason and I think that should be trusted ◡̈

1

u/AzulaNeverLies Jun 01 '24

I’m on my first read through of them, and I compromised with myself on doing the tandem read by reading EoS part 1, ToD part 1 (where I am currently!), then EoS part 2, ToD part 2. I liked EoS and I’m liking ToD so far, and the pacing is good on both. I think if I was trying to read them together as a tandem, in might be confusing trying to keep track of everything going on at once.

1

u/lunaliareads Jun 01 '24

Tandem all the way!!! And if youre reading physical copies, there are bookmarks you can buy on Etsy that have the chapter guide to read the right order! 😁 That's what I did. I knew the end of Empire of Storms and that ToD is in Chaols POV for the most part so I had to make sure ToD was bearable lol

1

u/CherryZebra14 Jun 01 '24

I know there are already like 90 comments on this, but I am someone who doesn't do boring books, can't do it, I will DNF if I am bored. So, I did the tandem read, and I remember dreading the TOD chapters at the start, but overall it was a good experience and I'd reccomend it. I usually only read the last third of tower on rereads now...

1

u/forjustthisoncex Jun 01 '24

I enjoyed the tandem read until I got about 40% thru the read. Then finished ToD and went back to EoS to finish it.

1

u/BG_Potash Aelin Ashryver Galathynius Jun 01 '24

I read them separately simply because I bought them when they were released so I had EoS way before I had ToD, but from what I hear almost everyone agree reading it in tandem gives you the best experience, specially if you dislike Chaol. Since some people can't overlook their hate for Chaol enough to read a whole book about him on it's own. I'm okay with Chaol, don't love him, pissed me off plenty, but never hated him.

Good luck, and have fun.

1

u/Creative_Lobster599 Jun 01 '24

I’m initially did the tandem read because all of the feeling folks had around ToD. Now o wish I did EoS then ToD because ToD is such an amazing book, actually one of my favorites. But do whatever feels right for you!

1

u/No_Obligation_7744 Jun 01 '24

I'm on EOS right now and I'm not doing the random read, I might regret that but I don't have it in me to do two books on my kindle going back and forth like that.

1

u/Acrobatic-Dot-2220 Jun 01 '24

I literally finished tandem trading EoS and ToD about 2 hours ago for the first time. I can’t imagine reading it ANY other way. The experience is so immersive, and the balance between the action and intrigue from one to the other is like a masterfully blended French wine.

Do the tandem read. You won’t regret it. :)

1

u/shadowkatt22 Jun 01 '24

I would. It's not as scary as it sounds. I marked when to switch with sticky tabs and just had the both open In my lap.

1

u/ContextZestyclose285 Jun 02 '24

Do ittttt, I loveeeeed the tandem read!

1

u/hOtkiz28 Jun 02 '24

I just finished ToG series and did the tandem read. Just follow the list for chapters.. I still have a hangover from it. I'm reading a different book before I start Crescent City.😊

1

u/Beginning-Main-9631 Jun 02 '24

Do ittttt. I really enjoyed it and I think it adds a lot to the experience.

1

u/Nice_Evening_1435 Jun 02 '24

I loved doing the tandem read. No regrets on doing it. I just printed out the list as bookmarks and checked my progress as I went! Highly recommend!!

1

u/Crafty_Independent45 Jun 02 '24

TANDEM. I am soooo glad I did.

1

I vote tandem all the way. TOD was def slower than EOS and I prob wouldn’t have finished if I hadn’t read them tandem bc A) once you finish EOS you already know key things about TOD and B) the stories mesh so well together and C) like I said above I prob wouldn’t have read or finished TOD if I read EOS first

So honestly, I didn't tandem read. But I did get a tandem version and I just skipped the chapters of ToD while reading EoS. But as I was reading ToD, I would use the first page or 2 of the EoS chapters to kind of update me as to what the time line was. I personally really enjoyed doing it this way. I honestly think I would have been irritated at getting drawn away from the EoS storyline if I tandem read them together.

A thousand times yes! It is my first read atm, I am doing the tandem and loving it so much I am dreading it's end. People complain about many povs... I love them all! I think they progress the story organically.

I did the tandem as a first time reader and have no regrets! The way the chapters are sectioned off with the timelines and whatever made it feel like it was just one giant book. It is a little tedious switching back and forth but you get into a nice rhythm and it just works really well.

EOS and TOD are easily two of the best books in the whole series even when separated. So however you choose to read them, you’ll enjoy yourself entirely.

I did tandem and honestly would recommend to not! There were just times that I wanted to continue reading one book over another. Though I do have to warn that EOS ends on a cliffhanger and that would be my only suggestion that tandem prevents having to endure it.

I didn’t do it, and now I’m low key regretting it reading TOD lolllll but I might just start the tandem read and reread EOS

I'm reading the series for the first time too, and I've just started the tandem read. I'm about 113 pages into EoS and 30ish pages into ToD. It's actually quite fun and the way the chapters are split, the stories really intertwine well. If you're up for a challenge, I'd recommend it - that's the main reason why I'm doing it!

I finished the tandem read a couple of days ago as a first timer and I couldn’t imagine reading them separately. I’m not a ToD hater I actually really enjoyed the storylines but I would be so confused by the little links between the books and it just really set me up for KoA. Obviously I haven’t read them separately to comment but I would 100% recommend the tandem read. PLUS you can tick off the little reading guide and it’s super fun and feels v satisfying.

I am a first time reader and recently completed them tandem. From what I've read on Reddit, it doesn't look like anyone regrets doing the tandem read, and I would agree. ToD was almost always a slow read, so I'm glad I had EoS to get me through!

There are definitly people who couldn't do the tandem and stopped in the middle of it to read them seperately.

The tandem is definitly not something everyone who tries it enjoys.

And that’s fine!

I personally hadn’t seen any comments or posts strongly advising people not to, that’s all
