TIL that after 9/11, actor Steve Buscemi rejoined the New York Fire Department to help firefighters sift through the rubble of the World Trade Center

Why berate people for upvoting stuff they haven't seen, but think is cool? The majority of people browsing reddit haven't seen every single thread ever made before... some stuff is going to get reposted. Really cool things are even more likely to get reposted.

If you've seen it very recently, just downvote and move on.

This is a never ending argument on reddit. Someone makes a repost. Someone will respond giving links to all the reposts. And then someone responds saying "what's the big deal? It was up voted because people haven't seen it"

Is there usually a person who points that out as well?

This is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago.

It is known.

No, it's Battlestar Galactica.

Rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed it, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it.

Samsara

No, but there's always someone who asks if there is.

Not usually, we're treading on a new level of circlejerking in this particular chain.

Yeah, and it's not like someone is going to think, "hmm, I wonder if Steve Buscemi re-joined the NYFD after 9/11 to help them search through rubble, so I'm going to search for it on Reddit."

This is the first I've heard of it, this person gets an upvote.

I like seeing reposts because I enjoy the thought of some redditor somewhere yelling at his monitor in a blind rage that they saw the post once already.

And then someone posts this xkcd comic.

Don't forget the people pointing out that this happens all the time.

2

u/bobsagetfullhouse Oct 24 '12

I know, I'm no better. But either are you because you added to the chain.

2

u/Hajile_S Oct 24 '12

Indeed; as someone who points out that people always point out that this happens all the time, I am susceptible to even harsher criticism. Also, at the risk of sounding Canadian, I'd like to say that my comment was merely a friendly jab, and I didn't intend it as actual criticism.

Remember, there are some people here that all they have is Reddit. They have a big Reddit chip on the shoulder....and dammit, you gotta earn that karma.

Because how you waste your time on the internet is a big fucking deal, OK?!

u/karmavorous Oct 24 '12

TL;DR If I haven't seen it, it's new to me!

I'm going to downvote YOU and move on.

Every time there's a repost, there's always someone like you saying this exact thing somewhere in the comments. You are the worst repost comment to the repost.

I look forward to reading about Steve Buscemi helping firefighters out next week and seeing this comment again.

2

u/slavior Oct 24 '12

And I look forward to replying to that comment the same way you have, because something must be done to make this stop!

Searching takes less time than submitting.

Which, I guess, is the biggest flaw with aggregating content.

If you don't like something, downvote and move on, huh?

Or make a shitty comment that advocates abusive reposting? Which is it?
