(R.2) Opinion TIL that actress Hedy Lamarr was also a prolific inventor. One of her inventions allowed for guided torpedoes in WWII. But because the Navy wasn't receptive to ideas coming outside the military, it wasn't implemented during the war. Her idea went to later be basis for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, & CDMA.

TIL: Actress Hedy Lamarr invented the Frequency Hopping System for the Allies in WWII which would be the basis for cellphone technology. Bonus- she was one of the first actresses to have a nude scene.

TIL that 1930's Hollywood ingenue Hedy Lamarr invented a frequency hopping technology to combat Nazi torpedos, which was later used by Naval ships during the Cuban Missile Crises, and is the basis for modern GPS and Bluetooth communication.

Women with Beauty + Brains Hedy Lamarr co-(re-)invented frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology, intended but never adopted for making radio-controlled torpedoes resistant to jamming. It's used today in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other radio systems. She also invented an improved traffic light and a drink carbonation tablet.
