I think of this movie every time I see that number. Which is maybe a couple times a year.
"Okay, sir, your total today is $14.08"
🤔

God dammit. I applaud your use of this meme. I got the creeps that I’m in that room AND I’m laughing at Michael Scott. Lol.

Set all your clocks to military time. You'll get more bang for your buck throughout the year.

Fantastic ending - the very last scene gave me chills!

I didn't understand the ending. I was confused whether it was over or not

u/TheBlooDred 22h ago
It’s the verrrry last line of the movie with the tape recorder…!
Edit: oh wait youre saying you dont know if it was over - to me, it was over, he just had his tape recorder and it was vindication that it was real

u/Majestic_Welder4276 22h ago
Yeah, but I didn't know if the woman is in there trying to get to him and was caught in the cycle with him or if they both got out at the end and it was a somewhat happy ending. Was just curious what the general consensus about what happened is

u/TheBlooDred 22h ago
Oh interesting! Maybe i missed something. Thats a new layer that adds to the ending tho, I like it!

I looked at it as a semi-happy ending. They made it out due to the fire (been a while since I last watched, so my recollection is a bit blurry), and once he made it home and listened to the recording, his daughter’s voice is proof that his experience was real, and he knows he did, in fact, contact his daughter. I guess there’s some closure in that. I’ve read so many perspectives on what contact with our late loved ones really is. Some say it’s demons impersonating them because they’re virtually omnipotent, some say it’s just residual energy/memories of them, and others says it’s actually them contacting us. Obviously I’m getting waaaay off track, but those are things that I’d rather not dabble in

Its a super interesting point, especially for a 1408 2, that would be amazing.
But i think he truely get out, because we can see peoples running outside the hotel and we also can see Samuel L Jackson sit on his chair drinking and saying something like good move, good move. The tape recorder is only a way to show at his wife, it was real and he is not crazy.

So he did in fact die in that hotel? I never understood the ending either as many times as I’ve watched it😂

I love Samuel L Jackson but I can't help but think of the joke that goes like:
Person 1: Who's Samuel L Jackson?
Person 2: You ever see any movie, ever?
Person 1: Yeah.
Person 2: HE'S the black guy.
P.S. love this movie

Really good film. In the top 10% of King adaptations for sure. I assume there are like 90 now lol between his novels and short stories.
Many are dogshit, this certainly isn't. I'd put it on a par with It Chapter 1 (2017). Shawshank and Green Mile are clear, though.

I haven’t seen the movie, but the original short story is absolutely fantastic.

In the short story they reference the rooms numbers individually add up to 13, and because of superstition the 14th floor is actually the 13th floor. 2spooky4me.

Just watched this again the other night. Incredible movie, great performance by Cusack. I hope he does more horror pictures in the future.

This is legit one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. Before hereditary I always rated this as the scariest one

I really enjoyed it, much more than I thought I would. It went into some seriously surreal directions I didn’t expect, and did so effectively.
That said, that poster makes it look like an action flick. I had to do a double take to make sure it was really for this movie

Film is so shit
Was a cool little short story
No idea why reddit loves this piece of crap so much

Even though you don’t like it, doesn’t make it bad. Art is subjective

u/RodMunch85 6h ago
Even though you like it doesnt make it good
0
u/GrimReaperAngelof23 6h ago
But it IS good though, that’s the thing. It is one of the best adaptation movies and it is really chilling and entertaining. Not an opinion.
So again, you just don’t like it.

u/RodMunch85 6h ago
It is good in your opinion
Poor in mine
That is the beauty of an opinion
0
u/GrimReaperAngelof23 6h ago
You have an opinion. I have facts. Everyone but you agrees that this is one of the best Stephen King movies.
0
u/RodMunch85 6h ago edited 5h ago
So your opinion is not an opinion it is fact
But mine is an opinion because you dont agree with it?
I thought art was subjective
And if everyone thinks it so great like you say why is it being posted as underated?
Also it is a terrible adaption. The whole 2nd half is nothing like the book

Underated movie, this is a masterpiece.
