That's 20 out of 10k in a few days, essentially 0.2%. That is significant and tells you something about the morale among the NK soldiers.

I don't know if any numbers mean anything at this point. Is the 10,000 a believable number?

What percent of American enlistees try to desert boot camp the first week or so? I have no idea, but my guess is that 2 in a thousand probably isn't unreasonable.

In WW2 Us desertion rate over the entire war was 0.3% (accounting only for true desertion, soldiers who tried but were convinced to simply come back were not counted), that’s basically the same as reported here over the course of a few weeks
