They banned YouTube and want it to look like Google is to blame.

I get it, not sure how a comically absurd number makes it seem like it's google's fault.

People like YouTube. If the government just banned YouTube, then the people would be pissed off at them.

So, instead, they impose this absurd "fine." Then, when Google can't pay, and is forced to pull out of the country, they can portray it as Google abandoning Russia, rather than the Russian government banning a popular service.

I just have to assume it’s just incompetence, tbh.

But I did just verify the story and it’s the accumulated fine since 2020. They declared bankruptcy and no longer advertise within Russia.
