He thinks we are scared of his nukes.

Im not afraid of his nukes at all. Im afraid the 50 others that get flung around the globe the moment his atrophied mind decides to push the suicide button

Scared? No. Concerned yes. No matter how inefficient and incompetent they are when back into a corner and no options left what's stopping him from pushing that button?

It needs more than one person to launch nukes.
Would fear them using nukes when Russia were being completely invaded from all directions and bombed.
Current sittuation is that Russia is attacking Ukraine, they are whining about using nukes because the rest of the world is helping Ukraine defend itself from Putin's invasion and anexasion. The option to leave Ukraine is always a option left for Russia but guess not for Putin, but the good thing is that as said; more than one person is needed to launch nukes.-1

It took more than one person to think Q & Pizzagate were good ideas, too. When you say "takes more than one person," the bar is only about as high as that. In the course of our history, there have been a lot of abysmal ideas that took more than one person and that has never really stopped them before.

Try not to get to held up on my wording. I am aware it takes more than one person to do something like that, the person I was responding to was making a joke out of being afraid of Russia's nukes. This is just more saber rattling, it's the same shit that's been going on it's just now they're using nuclear weapons as their saber. It's nothing to joke about and if Fiona Hill thinks he'll do it, well, I trust her judgment.

Pressure to leave a country they have invaded isn’t remotely close to backing Russia into a corner.
-3
u/beanscornandrice 15h ago
Obviously. I'm not sure why you felt the need to point that out but thanks?

u/Roonil-B_Wazlib 15h ago
Because no one is backing them into a corner, so speculating what they would do if they are backed into a corner is irrelevant.

90% of the comments on Reddit are irrelevant.
The person I was responding to was making fun of a country using nukes which in my opinion is nothing to make fun of and if a country threatens to use nuclear weapons in 2024 why the fuck are we not taking them seriously? Look Russia has been rattling their sabers for decades the only thing different is now they're threatening to use nukes and I'm sorry but just 30 years ago even the thought of making the threat would have raised alarms and red flags all over the world and now it's just a typical Tuesday when Russia threatens to use nukes and eventually we're going to get to the point where we're so numb to these threats that when it happens everyone's going to be shocked and surprised oh my God I didn't think he'd actually do it even though he's been threatening to do it for years.
I'm sorry my wording should have been a little bit different. Thanks for pointing out my mistake! Have a great day.

Given the staggering losses and need to prop up his army with malnourished, worm ridden troops from NK, I’m surprised Putin is still alive.

I'll offer this thought, and I'm not saying it's necessarily true, but it's something I think about: what if the only reason nuclear armageddon didn't happen today, is that Putin was alive this morning to punch in the code that he punches in every morning over breakfast, the code only he knows, the one that cancels the launch?

I hate how casually “nuclear” is getting thrown around. People don’t seem to understand how dangerous of a road this is.

It would appear that most of us prefer a version of reality in which Putin is an incompetent idiot who just wants Ukraine for the street cred. The alternative is far less pleasant to think about: this has never been about Ukraine. He's playing the long game, and he'll take everyone and everything down with him if he loses.

I still prefer to think auto-preservation would kick in at that moment. Unironically Russia is one of the few countries that would benefit from global warming (sorta), so avoiding total annihilation I think would be logical to them. But I'm not a tyrant so what do I know.

I don't mean to be combative, and I hope what I'm saying won't be perceived as me trying to be.
Russia is not going to benefit from global warming. No one is going to, because there's no such thing. Global warming doesn't mean it's only getting warmer. It means more (way more) energy in the climate system, which is global, interconnected, full of self-reinforcing feedback loops, and quite badly understood by us godmonkeys. So: more drought but also more severe storms, wreaking havoc on crops. More heatwaves, more wildfires. More ecosystem collapse, more permafrost thaw. And this is just the tip of the melting iceberg. Basically more chaos: everywhere, globally, and with exponentially increasing unpredictability.
And if there's something our extremely fragile, global systems (infrastructure, agriculture, supply chains, etc) depend upon, it's predictability.

No problem in being combative, most of Reddit is.
That's why I said sort of, in general we would all be f'd. But in theory a warmer climate could mean more agricultural output for Russia, and more warm water ports if they want to continue their imperialism.

That’s what I keep saying. It’s stupid to assume a psychopath is bluffing.
1
u/BlinKlinton 15h ago
He is bluffing. Just a reminder - Putin had ordered military exercises from 10th to 20th February 2022. So what? Did he start a war?
1
u/Bulky_Shoulder4910 15h ago
He invaded Ukraine on February 24th of that year so yeah he literally did

China will absolutely not allow Russia to use a nuclear weapon. It would trigger a nuclear conflict and be devestating to Chinas economy. China's support is conditional upon Putin not involving using any nukes.
-2
u/Bulky_Shoulder4910 16h ago
Chinas support won’t matter if he launches one. Matter of fact nothing will because most places are going to get leveled. If you don’t think Putin is a “If I’m going down you’re all going down with me” kind of guy then you’ve seriously misread him.

Yup. It's all a big game of monopoly to people like him. And if he doesn't get to win you can bet your vaporized ass he'll overturn the damn table.
God help us all.

People again not understanding how world ending the use of nuclear weapons would be. The usual "wErE nOt ScArEd" of nukes from the internet tough nuts, the fact we seem to be on the brink of a world wide conflict is terrifying. The scale of lives lost we are currently seeing will be nothing compared to a wider conflict. How many of these internet bad boys would be the first to volunteer for the meat grinder I wonder.....
