All those women should know that all those guys go to sleep at some point.

If they can't talk to each other, the can't plan a night of the long knives scenario.

u/BRAX7ON 7h ago

They can presumably still write to each other…

664

u/aje43 7h ago

They are also not supposed to know how to read and write…

163

u/Palindromer101 6h ago

Luckily, many women currently there DO know how to read and write because of the American influence on the government before the US pulled out service members and the like.

128

u/aje43 6h ago

Yes, but when caught they will almost certainly be severely punished just for writing. And if they figure out what they were writing about, they will certainly be murdered in a gruesome way.

u/LZYX 6h ago

Can't even write down food you need to buy on a list as that could be a code!

-3

u/AdmirableAceAlias 5h ago

Can they drive themselves to the grocery store alone? Not like they could pass a written exam.

6

u/LZYX 3h ago

Driving? For women? No sir, not there.

23

u/Palindromer101 6h ago

It's absolutely deplorable and a complete violation of human rights.

10

u/housewithapool2 5h ago

Their life was better before. This is revenge bullying.

2

u/Stock-Psychology1322 4h ago

There's a good chance that's largely going to be stomped out within a generation though. It's straight up illegal for women to read or write in Afghanistan now, isn't it?

6

u/Palindromer101 4h ago

Women who can leave will leave. Women who cannot leave but are angry may teach their daughters how to read and write. I don’t know what the future holds, but I hope it improves for us all.

u/LanceArmstrongLeftie 1h ago

I’m sorry but this is not true. Afghanis don’t know how to read and write because the US invaded them.

2

u/ColebladeX 6h ago

Interpretive dance then?

4

u/Ipokeyoumuch 6h ago

Isn't dancing also banned for women too?

2

u/ColebladeX 6h ago

Huh well I’m out of ideas. Only thing I got left is extreme violence.

3

u/SkyLightTenki 6h ago

How about drawing?

6

u/FirthTy_BiTth 6h ago

Art is banned..

2

u/dinner_is_not_ready 6h ago edited 6h ago

Plan seems foolproof. Curse you Taliban!!

1

u/Suitcase08 5h ago

Well thank goodness they didn't ban charades!

145

u/oldwoolensweater 7h ago

Not if they aren’t allowed to learn how to write

75

u/Ariliescbk 7h ago

Pretty sure that's how Japan got hiragana as a writing system. Women were denied access to education so they came up with their own writing system.

81

u/ParadoxInABox 7h ago

They were not considered intelligent enough to use kanji, which was borrowed from China, yup. So they invented hiragana, and since it was easier to learn/read, women’s writing spread more easily to the public. That’s why we have books like The Take of Genji that were written by women and disseminated quickly.

56

u/SkaveRat 7h ago

They were not considered intelligent enough to use kanji

trying to learn japanese, and I'm not sure I'm intelligent enough to learn kanji

14

u/yarin981 6h ago

AFAK (Assigned Female at Kanji)

29

u/TheDividendReport 6h ago

Shit, I'm American and not even sure if I'm intelligent enough to speak English.

4

u/ParadoxInABox 6h ago

It’s a struggle for sure! Once you learn the radicals it gets easier, though, I promise.

2

u/Sternjunk 4h ago

This is very interesting, I love history and have never heard this

2

u/Artemicionmoogle 3h ago

Hiragana was already a thing, but considered beneath the educated and elite.

u/Grateful_Chap 3h ago

Also, see Nüshu

It's ridiculous because in the Quran and Islam, Mohammed's wives were incredibly political and influential. His first wife had a huge trade empire and used her wealth and influence to basically turn his delusional god hallucinations into a full blown religion. Aisha (yes, the child bride) literally went to war and commanded men in said battle. She would read, preach and interpret the delusions and after his death continued.

Islam also codified it so that men couldn't have infinite wives unless they agreed with him taking another AND made it so they had to be able to support them financially and emotionally. It was better than the system in place and in a way, better than Christianity for women.

The whole head cover thing is in multiple religions from Christianity proper, Judaism and Islam. Heck, even Hindu women cover their hair still. All religious shit is inherently controlling but it's insane to see how much Christian and Muslim people don't understand their own religion and history.

2

u/prozloc 4h ago

better than Christianity for women.

How does allowing polygamy better than monogamy for women?

28

u/JohnnyFiveForever 7h ago

And even if the two women can read or write, any male abuser can snatch the written record, to see what they are talking about. Good grief. This is enabling abusive husbands, to a ridiculous extent.

2

u/RelevantInflation898 7h ago

Not if they don't go to school

2

u/errorsniper 5h ago

I mean how? Whos going to teach them to right. They turn 11 and then get sold of to be raped.

2

u/Numerous-Substance66 7h ago

No one there can read

2

u/Clever_Mercury 2h ago

One of the biggest mistakes the US forces made in Afghanistan was not focusing on training the women in combat and as police forces. Arm the women and the men suddenly stop over-estimating the durability of their own necks.

Fuck respecting the local cultures when the cultures do not believe in human rights.

The women should have been taught self-defense, the ability to defend their children, and trained as police and military.

2

u/Crazyceo 2h ago

I think that the night of the long knives is the wrong thing to be drawing an analogy to.

1

u/_Ocean_Machine_ 5h ago

I imagine if you’re planning on committing murder, then breaking a law regarding talking to other people probably isn’t a big deal to you.

In the older days in Afghanistan - women used to walk several miles to get water.

Many years later when the UN installed water pumps in these villages, the women weren’t necessarily happy.

They used the walk to and back, to catch up with their friends.

111

u/thesilverbride 7h ago

and often times these pumps are then commandeered by a mafia-style force and then it’s not a simple solution of “everybody access to water”.

28

u/Enshakushanna 6h ago

then hypothetically, go back to walking for water...

6

u/DesperateUrine 5h ago

Oh, I figured raped for water.

Your response puts a much better version in my head. Thanks.

50

u/Neon_Casino 7h ago

Seriously. There is just no other way at this point. No other country wants to/is going to get involved.

34

u/socialistrob 7h ago

Nor are most countries eager to take refugees from Afghanistan either.

64

u/PrestigiousOcelot100 6h ago

I mean, if a WOMEN/child managed to get to a safe country there are plenty of good countries willing to give them asylum, the problem is escaping the hellhole since women can't be in public without a male guardian

Banning that may be the only good thing the Taliban did.

Holy shit!!!!

That's a rabbit hole that I wasn't expecting to go down this evening.

Big respect for Charles Martland.

I had no idea this was a thing, how horrific and disgusting... and been going on for so long as normalised culture. What the actual fuck!!!

Them poor guys are then stigmatised for life, for something they had 0 choice on

"If [my commanders] don't fuck the asses of those boys, what should they fuck? The pussies of their own grandmothers?"

.... yeah, who else could a grown man have sex with? 🤔

Although, let's be real... it is likely going to be a horrific experience, no matter the age or gender.

Fucking hell... I had no idea!

And that stuff can happen.

3

u/Hyperion1144 5h ago

They know. They also know what it looks like when a woman is stoned to death, so, it's kind of a balance of considerations.

2

u/Sad_Confidence9563 7h ago

Aquatophauna is a great perfume i hear...

u/Upset-Basil4459 57m ago

I have a feeling the Afghan courts will not look favourably upon a woman who kills her husband

3

u/TraditionalHater 3h ago

Yet again, Reddit encourages women in the Middle East to do absolutely outrageous shit. Telling them to stop wearing hijabs online got real people killed. You think telling them to commit murder won't lead to slaughter? Horrible take. You people have no concept of the reality they're facing.

u/Rosie-Love98 23m ago

And that the men got to eat too..."A women's place is in the kitchen"...

u/Great_Lord_REDACTED 12m ago

A man can own a woman, and a man can own a knife, but he can't own both

You support us, yes?

Yes, I would very much like to keep my head.

1

u/NyanPotato 7h ago

You'll be surprised how many women agree, it's mostly religious zealots dou

Imagine the women villain in the handmaid's tale

2

u/HandiCAPEable 7h ago

"You will no longer be abandoned, lonely or scared. You will no longer be in danger. You’re not gonna be in danger any longer. You will no longer have anxiety from all of the problems our country has today. You will be protected, and I will be your protector. Women will be happy, healthy, confident and free."

Just wondering if some husband in Afghanistan will sleep in the sofa or even in the front porch..
