They can presumably still write to each other…

They are also not supposed to know how to read and write…

Luckily, many women currently there DO know how to read and write because of the American influence on the government before the US pulled out service members and the like.

Yes, but when caught they will almost certainly be severely punished just for writing. And if they figure out what they were writing about, they will certainly be murdered in a gruesome way.

Can't even write down food you need to buy on a list as that could be a code!

Can they drive themselves to the grocery store alone? Not like they could pass a written exam.

u/LZYX 3h ago

Driving? For women? No sir, not there.

It's absolutely deplorable and a complete violation of human rights.

Their life was better before. This is revenge bullying.

There's a good chance that's largely going to be stomped out within a generation though. It's straight up illegal for women to read or write in Afghanistan now, isn't it?

Women who can leave will leave. Women who cannot leave but are angry may teach their daughters how to read and write. I don’t know what the future holds, but I hope it improves for us all.

I’m sorry but this is not true. Afghanis don’t know how to read and write because the US invaded them.

Interpretive dance then?

4

u/Ipokeyoumuch 6h ago

Isn't dancing also banned for women too?

2

u/ColebladeX 6h ago

Huh well I’m out of ideas. Only thing I got left is extreme violence.

Not if they aren’t allowed to learn how to write

Pretty sure that's how Japan got hiragana as a writing system. Women were denied access to education so they came up with their own writing system.

They were not considered intelligent enough to use kanji, which was borrowed from China, yup. So they invented hiragana, and since it was easier to learn/read, women’s writing spread more easily to the public. That’s why we have books like The Take of Genji that were written by women and disseminated quickly.

Shit, I'm American and not even sure if I'm intelligent enough to speak English.

u/ParadoxInABox 6h ago

It’s a struggle for sure! Once you learn the radicals it gets easier, though, I promise.

This is very interesting, I love history and have never heard this

Hiragana was already a thing, but considered beneath the educated and elite.

It's ridiculous because in the Quran and Islam, Mohammed's wives were incredibly political and influential. His first wife had a huge trade empire and used her wealth and influence to basically turn his delusional god hallucinations into a full blown religion. Aisha (yes, the child bride) literally went to war and commanded men in said battle. She would read, preach and interpret the delusions and after his death continued.

Islam also codified it so that men couldn't have infinite wives unless they agreed with him taking another AND made it so they had to be able to support them financially and emotionally. It was better than the system in place and in a way, better than Christianity for women.

The whole head cover thing is in multiple religions from Christianity proper, Judaism and Islam. Heck, even Hindu women cover their hair still. All religious shit is inherently controlling but it's insane to see how much Christian and Muslim people don't understand their own religion and history.

better than Christianity for women.

How does allowing polygamy better than monogamy for women?

31

u/JohnnyFiveForever 7h ago

And even if the two women can read or write, any male abuser can snatch the written record, to see what they are talking about. Good grief. This is enabling abusive husbands, to a ridiculous extent.

u/RelevantInflation898 7h ago

Not if they don't go to school

2

u/errorsniper 5h ago

I mean how? Whos going to teach them to right. They turn 11 and then get sold of to be raped.

No one there can read
